Story & Plot: 7/10
The story is arguably slow, the first few episode was amazing where the story developed, while in the middle it starts to falter and continue with what feels like fillers episode with minimal to no developement in the plot. some episode felt really dragged out. depsite all this the story that is trying to discover the theme of humanity in a setting where you are reincarnated as a monster is really refreshing, it strays far away from your normal undead isekai/fantasy show where they just dont bother addressing this part. i just hope if this has a chance for season 2 it
...
will develope the plot a little bit more and maybe move the pacing up alittle bit.
World Building: 6/10
Not much to say about the world and settings. not much was revealed aside from your usual isekai/fantasy, but i can see glimpse of hope that it will be an interesting world.
Characters: 9/10
this is the main selling point for this anime, very rarely does your isekai disguised as fantasy have solid points on this one. the main character felt genuine and the kind of guy you would root for, he is the underdog who has given all of his effort to achieve his dreams, he is smart, kind and bad with women but despite all this he was limited by his human body. Finally after breaking his limitation of his human body, now he has the dilemma with his humanty, does being revived as a monster make him stop being a human. Does any of that matters now that he have the power to achieve his dreams.
moving on to the side characters, so far the side characters are very much solid too, some are pretty cliche but the chemistry the mc have with all the side characters are great.
Art: 6/10
The art are okay, there isnt too much to talk about. The quality did drop after a few episode but thats understandable from something that dont have much budget to start with.
Animation: 6/10
the animation it started with was good, but just like the art, the animation quality starts to drop with every new episodes.
Opening & Ending: 8/10
The ending really suits the overall theme of this shows, every time i hear the guitar intro it just soothe my souls and then the chorus kicks in and i ended up listening to the whole song. The opening is also very good, but it dont really capture me as much as the ending song.
Sound effect & Musical score: 5/10
Im not an expert when it comes to this, usually i dont pay much attention to musical score since they are usually too quite to listen to using a speaker. Sound effect & musical score has the ability to heighten up important moments and you can feel these stuff when it trully matters and i can say that at most time i couldnt feel the sound effect or the musical score.
Enjoyability: 7/10
Well despite the slow story this is quite enjoyable, mainly the interections between the characters are good enough to keep you watching. there isnt a lot of action so if you are the type who couldnt watch a video without subway surfer to keep your attention this is not for you. this is more of a human drama than your usually isekai power fantasy.
Overall: 6.8/10
total score [54] / total category [8] = Overall [6.8]

Story & Plot: 5/10
It is kinda jumbled in a mess, but it is not bad that it ruined anything.
World Building: 6/10
The world was very unique although it was left unexplored from the glimpse of it it looks very vast and beautiful.
Characters: 4/10
I guess the weakest thing about this are characters, i hardly felt anything when it comes to the charcters, they are inconsistent and one dimensional. everyone have their 1 main emotion and only on different ocassion does they suddenly become another character completely. The mc is just a tryhard to be cool.
Art: 6/10
The art is unique but i dont really enjoy it that much,
...
but thats just my bias as a veteren anime watcher, the art is not that bad its just it takes time to appreciate it, but art is also subjective, some would love this art, some like me just have a hard time to process it, others would hate it outrightly. For me, the art is fine.
Animation: 10/10
Now this is the main selling point of this donghua, it is unfortunate that i know people will never find this donghua because not enough people are talking about it. but the animation and the fight choreography are up there with top anime studio.
Sound effect, Music & score: 5/10
I'm not going to talk much about music since its subjective, for musical score i also dont have any capacity to judge it since i rarely pay attention to it during my first watch, but for sound effect it is good and bad for me, the fight scene sound effect is fine but for the rest of the sound effect it is just plain or sometime none existent.
Enjoyability: 10/10
This is the kind of "shut your brain off and enjoy the epic fights the story has to offer" kind of show if you can just ignore all of its shortcomings, this is very enjoyable.
Overall: 6.6/10
All score aboved totalled and the average is taken as the overall value.
total score [5+6+4+6+10+5+10=46]
total average [46(total score) / 70(maximum score)=0.66]
convert into out of ten score [0.66=6.6/10]

this is your run of the mill power fantasy set in the world of wuxia cultivations. the story is very simple and if you are familiar with the world of wuxia cultivation you can understand most of the world building. if you never heard of wuxia cultivations then you might get confused with the way the world works.
the best thing about this anime/donghua is the fluid animation and very stylistic fight scenes, i can always believe in donghua to produce great action choreography they are sometimes better than anime fight scene. martial art although kinda ridiculous in real world makes for a fantastic piece
...
when it comes to the fantasy world.
unfortunately everything else is just too plain and uninteresting, the characters are kinda boring and undeveloped through out the series, the world although interesting is too much of a mess to be good. the story is really the weakest thing when it come to this donghua. the story is just basic, all the plot development comes and goes and none of them is actually interesting.
overall, the battle choreography really did carried the weight of this otherwise boring and plain story to the point where it is watchable. i wished they gives us more action scene instead of meaningless dialouges throughout the series.

Solo Levelling is probably the most hyped up power fantasy for the winter season. The show is almost an isekai but dungeon/gate is actually a very popular genre of its own in the manhwa community. The first 2 episodes have already received praise from its fans and disparaging review from your usual skeptics. Now that the webnovel’s manhwa adaptation is receiving its anime treatment, as a fan of both the manhwa and webnovel I felt inclined to write this review. The skeptics have their relevance in pointing out the obvious weak point of the show which is the story. I'm not here to defend it,
...
neither do I think it is a bad thing for this show
Firstly let's address the elephant in the room, which is the story. The story is nothing amazing, this is not your Attack on Titan level of storytelling. The story is more in line with your standard shounen like Demon Slayer or My Hero Academia. If you think those two stories are a masterpiece then you would probably rate Solo leveling at that same level. Unfortunately, Solo leveling is not a masterclass of storytelling. What it is the masterclass of though is the masterclass of hyping up a fight that is so obvious its going to happen and actually make you leave satisfied with what you just experienced.
You may think that the story being simple and lacking in depth is a bad thing, but in my opinion, despite the simple story it is thoroughly enjoyable combined with the world building that again despite being simple is pretty much complete and doesn't leave any room to be desired, is very enjoyable. This was the reason why I managed to entirely finish reading the web novel. As someone who is too lazy to read anything, reading the web novel was no small achievement for myself and a huge pointer to how enjoyable it is.
The best thing about this story is, unlike most anime power fantasy/isekai that always brings harem into the mix and forces a lot of unnecessary romances and fan service into the story, Solo Levelling focuses more on the important aspects of the story rather than trying to sell their waifu. Romance is hinted at in the story but it has progressed naturally so it doesn’t feel like it comes out of nowhere. I cant talk much about the story without spoiling it, but believe me, the simple story makes you enjoy it more than making it complicated and convoluted. you can just turn your brain off and enjoy the adrenaline rush whenever a fight happens.
The characters are again not masterclass, but they are also made well enough you don’t think it’s going to be a drawback. Jin woo doesn't just become cool immediately, he grinds hard to become the edgy character he was at the peak of his power. He is not indecisive when it comes to decision making, he knows his goals and he works towards it. He felt human despite being depicted as god.
As for the rest of the cast, they are your standard supporting character. They initially have their own goals, but they are also limited by their own abilities since unlike the mc, everyone else can't level up. So for any human threat to the MC it's just a matter of time for Jin Woo to surpass them.
So what makes the manhwa considered goated amongst the manhwa community? I’m going to throw shade and assume that the community is mostly not over the age of 18 and thinks anything edgy and cool as deep and a masterpiece. Why do I assume that? You can go to any of the comment sections on any chapter of any manhwa outside of webtoon app. Spoiler Alert All they talk about is how horny they are. Well that is one of the reasons and the other reason is something the manhwa is well known for. “The Art”. The art is amazing, it’s the literal equivalent of Demon Slayer anime. If you have not read the manhwa, go read it immediately. It’s the best starter manhwa out there.
To expand on the art of the manhwa a bit more, it’s as if each of the panels is animated and you can see the movement on each panel with every fight scene. Every fight is extremely detailed and watching it pumps your adrenaline. All these details make you easily be able to imagine all of the movements in your head which in return fills in the blanks of movement every time the panels are scrolling. I don’t read enough manga to know what to compare it with, so you’re going to have to experience it yourself for you to understand why “The Art” managed to bring this simple story to the hype it received today. The simplicity of the story though gives it the benefit of you being able to enjoy the whole thing more easily.
Enough with me shilling for the manhwa. Time to talk about the anime. Honestly when I heard they were adapting the manhwa into an anime I was not convinced they could pull it off. I have seen how badly they butchered one of my favorite manhwa, Tower of God. So I was quick to hold my excitement despite being one of the people who really wanted to see this in anime form. My last string of hope is if they announce it will be animated by Ufotable or Mappa. Even then these studios would need to bring their A game to animate this.
When they announced it was A-1, I was not too convinced. I had mixed feelings, A-1 is a hit or miss. They can make good stuff, they can also make garbage. But from the first three episodes if they maintain this pacing I believe A-1 could at least have made a decent adaptation here. I hope A-1 is able to recognize the selling point of solo leveling by bringing the hype and satisfaction of every fight scene straight out of the manhwa.
The animation is far from what I imagined or hoped it would be, but it is good enough for me to not berate it any further. It’s only 3 episodes, so I'm going to hold on to my judgment until the anime finishes. Now all A-1 has to do is to stick to the story and maintain the pacing while providing hype fight scenes for this anime adaptation to receive my 6/10.
Final score: 6/10(not final, could be lower but probably the highest I’m going to give it)
Story: 6/10(strictly based on the manhwa score)
Characters: 6/10(based on manhwa score)
World building: 5/10(based on manhwa score)
Art: 6/10(not final, may change)
Animation: 7/10(not final, may change)
