Superheroes in an isekai is a good idea. Supervillains in an isekai is an even better idea, and Tappei's Suicide Squad Isekai is a decent execution of that concept. The cast is charming, and while the show spend too much runtime on fighting to really develop its characters, it helps that they're known IPs and anyone who's seen the James Gunn movie, for example, will appreciate the show not wasting their time. To me who's not really a fan of American superheroes, this rendition of the suicide squad is the definitive version for me. Harley Quinn especially feels like she was always meant to be ...

...What? I knew going in that Utena was a fairly influential anime within the magical girl genre and was meant as a subversion of Sailor Moon (which I haven't seen), but instead I got a mix of cryptic bullshit and unnecessary filler? It feels like the creators had no interest in telling a story, only sending a message in the most pretentious and unnecessarily confusing way possible. Look, if you have to rewatch something several times and read other people's analyses to understand what was happening in a story, that's not smart writing, it's just bad storytelling. I still don't understand until the very end ...

TWGOK is an excellent and unique take on harems. For the first two seasons it follows a structure of Keima "conquering" whatever girl Elsie tells him to and her losing her memories of it after, but the plot really gets moving in the third season when some of them start regaining their memories for certain reasons. It's not unexpected for a 2000s romcom, but it's a shame this series couldn't get the front-to-back adaption it deserved; otherwise it easily could've been a 10. There's not a single bad character here, the girls are all really loveable and for the most part have fun, heartfelt arcs. ...

MyGO fell below expectations for me. I had seen people hype it up, but I couldn't help but think it was inferior in just about every way to Girls Band Cry. I couldn't really sympathize with the characters, except maybe Anon and Tomori. People act selfishly without explaining themselves, and are never really reprimanded for it. Sakiko is straight up just a bitch, yet people like Soyo bend over backwards to please her for no reason. It's cringe. And now they want to make a sequel starring Sakiko's band. The music is decent, the animation is on par with other BanG Dream seasons, and the ...

Dungeon Meshi (Anime) add
The amount of great fantasy anime to come out this year has been unreal. Dungeon Meshi is very comparable to the recent Frieren, and even better in a lot of ways. The worldbuilding is some of the best not only in anime but in anything, and the way its unique and compelling story is told surrounding the central theme of Dungeon Food is nothing short of masterful. The cast is large but no character overstays their welcome; the main ~5 were all loveable and well-developed without taking away from the main attraction which is the dungeon. They got really creative with the problems and solutions, ...

SoreMachi taught me that an electric bass, a drum set, a violin, and an accordion go surprisingly well in a band together.
I wasn't impressed at the start, with the pretty basic SHAFT comedy setup and multiple characters having deliberately unappealing designs, but the more I watched the more I appreciated how charming and loveable SoreMachi is. Compared to shows like Paniponi Dash or Maria Holic, it's much more restrained and doesn't have many references, but it's still goofy and rowdy compared to something like Hidamari Sketch. And the closer you get to the end, the more the show will surprise you with unexpectedly touching ...

I don't want to be harsh on this, cause I'm very happy to have a Love Live Sunshine spinoff at all, but I feel like Sunshine in the Mirror could've been a lot better than it was. Specifically it seems pretty halfhearted in a lot of what people want from something like this. It doesn't get rid of singing and performances, but there's less singing than one would expect from Love Live. It's set in a fantasy world, but with plenty of modern amenities (and some tokusatsu elements?) and it never leaves the single town of Numazu. It has everyone from Aqours, but other than ...

People look at me like crazy when I tell them my favorite sports anime is about golf, but it's not my fault Birdie Wing is so good. Every single thing about Birdie Wing, from the characters, to the story, to the games, to the setting, to Namco's stuff being plastered everywhere is so utterly perfect for making the vision of an absurd, ultra-hype anime about one of the most boring sports come alive that it made me unironically want to play golf. And did I mention it's also yuri?! Like not explicitly but also pretty explicitly. Some nitpicks I have: I wish Aoi and Eve ...

Well-writtenWell-written
Handyman Saitou feels a lot like the author wanted to write an isekai that was different and went from there. The result is, in my opinion, something that feels unique but not special. A lot of people were able to see it as a goofy fantasy that fixed the problems they had with other isekai, and good for them, but for me it was a pretty mediocre collection of skits that eventually became an even more mediocre couple of story arcs. Sometimes the formula is what it is for a reason, and you should have a better idea of what you're doing before trying to ...

As a fan of the light novels I'm beyond pleased that this is one of the best looking shows Diomedea has ever made. I'm glad they covered the whole first arc, or the first three volumes of the light novel, but they kind of had to skip some dialogue that makes the story more coherent. Still, with 12 episodes they did a pretty good job at covering everything I wanted them to cover, though there should be no reason they couldn't have had 13 episodes.
Speaking more about the anime itself, MagiRevo really is a cut above most isekai (as the serious yuri ones tend to ...
