Well, I just finished Belle after enjoying quite a few of the songs in the past without never even watching the movie.. and I don't exactly know how something like that just- got greenlit. Allow me to explain.
It's a really cool concept and the way it flips Beauty and the Beast on its head is also cool. The idea of a whole different world with cool technology where you can live a different life and some random nobody who can sing well can get a chance at stardom. It feels like a fleshed out conceptual VRchat. It's interesting. However, there's some flaws. Belle gets

help from her friend to grow her following practically overnight. I get it's point is to world build and introduce it, but it feels superficial in the way it comes off. If she was already a big star it would make more sense personally. Also the way theres 5 billion people in this internet world and so many of them care about Belle and the dragon's identity is a bit weird- people are not that one track minded.. but I get forcing the other characters to care for story purposes so whatever.
I honestly think it was weird to make the beast a troubled abused kid. I get Belle is also young too but I dunno, the original story of beauty and the beast is a love story. I was kind of expecting that when I saw trailers and watched it- up until the end. She sings him a love song for gods sake (well- i wasnt sure if it was a love song to the dragon or shinobu?? anyway). In my mind before the truth of who the dragon's origin at least- was that shinobu was the dragon, troubled and living with the burden and pain of loving suzu but also wanting to protect her and not ruin things between them. Honestly I think that'd be better in my opinion, and hell maybe his mom (idk if we ever meet his parents) can pass, and they both are dealing with grief idk.. anything would be better than the weirdness of "hey belle and the dragon kinda are seemingly catching feelings JK THO HES A CHILD AND ACTUALLY BELLE HAS TO SAVE HIM" and the way that he's "saved" is so weird- and makes no sense?? She just... hugs him and his brother, gets scratched in the face and stares at the dad and he stands down?? thats so- unrealistic and weird. AND ITS NOT CONFIRMED IF HES CHANGED, IF THE DAD IS STILL IN thE PICTURE, NOTHING. and then the dragon/kid says he loves her and she just goes "thanks". i had to pause and laugh- and the kicker... mr shinobu who suzu is known to have the hots for? yeah they dont even end up together. at the end shinobu essentially says "suzu I dont have to protect you anymore!" and he smiles and isnt weird anymore and the movie pretty much ends. It was unsatisfying..
I will give it this, I love Belle's design and the animation is pretty- the parts where its 3D it isnt too egregious. The songs are beautiful, and that's what makes me say it's ok. The first half of the movie I was blissfully ignorant to how weird it would end, and for that, is why i say it's meh. If I was younger and wasn't so seceiptible to nitpicking a movie i'm sure I'd love it alot more- purely for the sole reason of pink hair pretty lady singing pretty songs. But I'm a grouchy lady and it's gonna take more than pink hair women and pretty songs for me to say somethings a masterpiece.
