This is my first review on MAL, so apologies if this seems sloppy.
Lupin III: The First, has to be hands down one of my favorite Lupin Experiences. I have seen this movie twice, and on rewatch I felt just as excited as the first time I watched it. Let's start with one of the main reasons why I love the film.
Visuals 10/10- The visuals is what makes this movie absolutely stunning, as someone who is not the biggest fan of CGI, Lupin III: The First makes me wish we could see more anime that has this Pixar level of quality in the visual department. Every

little detail from, Lupin's curly smirks, to Fujiko's charm, has been translated flawlessly to this CGI style, which makes each part of the main cast feel lively as ever.
Characters 9/10- Each one of the main cast is great, and they are the main characters you know and love, and if you by chance are reading this review and have not seen any Lupin III, this movie feels like it could be a great start to meet the main cast. Lupin, Fujiko, Jigen, Goemon and Zenigata, all help move the plot along in away it never feels boring. My only gripe with the characters is the new characters, while Laetitia is fun, albeit a tad bit generic, she fits in with the main cast well. The two villians feel a bit too cartoony for my likening, they get the job done for the plot, just wish they had some memorable quirks.
Story 7.5/10- Will the story win any awards? I don't think so. While the story is not bad, I feel if you stare at it long enough you could see the plot holes, but at the end of the day it is a Lupin movie, which means it focuses on fun. I feel that while the plot could be seen as generic, it still is fun. If you use 100% of your brain power, than most people could see the "twists and turns" from miles away. But without the main cast the plot would not feel the same.
Sound/ Music 10/10- Yuji Ohno is back at it again, the score is what makes Lupin feel memorable in many eyes including mine. Every track is a treat to listen to, and has references packed in if you are familiar with Lupin, such as one of the themes from Cagliostro, and the track Superhero from Part II. The ending song Gift sung by Lyn Inaizumi is very soothing, and I love how they use the instrumental for this song throughout the movie to create a leitmotif.
All in All, one of the most fun Lupin experiences that you can not go wrong with, while the story is most likely not going to win any Oscars, the characters help push this story to make it as fun as possible. Which is all backed by a legendary score, and breathtaking visuals as well. If you have never seen Lupin before, this movie feels like a fantastic introduction. I look forward to a Lupin III: The Second if that ever happens
Lupin III: The First Overall Score :10/10
