Honestly, I can't understand all this hatred towards this series. As a Cinema graduate, I was taught to look at things objectively. This series is no masterpiece and, as I haven't watched the original, I have no grounds to compare.
The story is a bit confusing, so I don't know if the hatred stems from here. The story was very rushed - if I take into consideration the comments of those who watched the original. The script could've been better elaborated so that the story would’ve had a better flow - maintaining the interest and suspense.
It's really entertaining as a whole if you watch knowing
...
what to expect. The story has a lot of elements which make it interesting (though confusing). Still, it’s a good way to pass your time if you do not expect much.
The action scenes are well made, and the art is fairly decent. The characters are quite captivating as well!
I enjoyed a lot since I did not expect much! The story has a lot of issues; still, I've seen many anime that had these kinds of issues (or worse), but did not receive all of this hatred - maybe because they had fanservice, ecchi and other cliched people love.
In conclusion, I do not get people at all: I just think there are a lot of hypocrites and horny guys in here who can’t watch a fantasy without those elements mentioned above. Honestly, I've liked this more than that I-don't-know-what-that-fuck-it-is Code Geass (which people seem to love). I'm sorry, not sorry!
Peace out!

Given is a love story between two boys. That is the premise, but it's so much more than that. I can say that, as a gay person, that story resonated so much within me - it got me to cry a lot throughout the episodes. Straight people might not realize everything we have to deal with throughout our lives (besides the wide-open homophobia, of course). Surely growing up trying to figure yourself out, feeling different from everyone else is a tough process – even tougher when people around you decides things before we even have them clear to ourselves. And even after we go through
...
our process of understanding who we are and accepting who we are, it’s still very hard to deal with those around us – always having that kind of feeling that they only put up with you, but don’t really accept you. Growing up like that does leave a mark on your soul – a mark that could never be erased. So, (a spoiler ahead) when I figured out everything Mafuyu had to go through with the death of his best friend and boyfriend, it really pierced my heart. I always wished I could find that kind of person in my school days, someone who’d help go through with everything. Unfortunately, there was no such person to me, though I was lucky enough to have found friends who could pierce through the shell I had built for myself and help me understand I didn’t have to be ashamed of who I was. Mafuyu had that person though. Not only did he have him, but he was his boyfriend. So, seeing everything he went through and seeing how he had to go on after the person who was his everything leave him, it just devastated me completely. I barely made it through having many friends who insisted a lot on having me accept who I was; so, seeing what happened to Mafuyu, I couldn’t help it but feel extremely sad and empathetic towards him. Watching he barely holding up and going on remembered me of myself. Given was intense for me because it made me remind lot of suffering I had to go through; however, in a way, it was a cleansing experience – having seen a possibility to overcome your past and find new ways to live your future. I never quite left my past, so, it really hit me hard how Mafuyu stood up again and walked forward. The music only makes the anime even more intense. When Mafuyu sings for the first time, in a song where he tells how he feels having to go on with his boyfriend having left him, it resonated with my soul - I couldn’t even tell exactly how and why, but that song made me cry for a long while. It made feel his pain, the pain of having to go through a lot of suffering alone – a feeling I know quite well.
The anime is really well made and amazing. It’s no exaggeration to say it’s the best anime of the season. It made me go through a very lethargic and cleansing experience. It’s been ages since an anime made me feel this way. I do highly recommend watching this anime. After it’s finished, I’ll rewrite this review. Until then, I’ll be processing things.

I'll make this extremely succinct: overall, the anime is interesting and a good way to pass time if you have nothing else to do (like I didn't). The story is decent, the construction of the characters could've been better, but, in the end, it's ok. Gai is plainly REAAAAALY annoying most of the anime and Daisuke is mildly annoying most of the anime (though they do redeem themselves in the final). The story could've been better structured and elaborated - as the characters could've been better thought (specially Gai and Daisuke); however, where it counts, the anime was really interesting and entertaining. The art of
...
it was decent - although I do think the action scenes could've been improved: the animators just used waaay too much of CGI (and not in the good sense, such as Shingeki no Kyojin). The sound was also decent - nothing remarkable to be said about it; although, the sound mixing in the action scenes was good enough for the scenes to be good overall. I really did enjoy the anime! As I said, there could've been some improvements, but the premise was really interesting and the suspense and mystery throughout the story made it really addictive (I watched all of it on the weekend). Overall, I'd say it's worth to watch - although have it in mind it's not a masterpiece. And, though my opinion only matters to me (still, you did read this far), in the mecha genre, I liked it more than Code Geass. I'm sorry, not sorry. Peace.
Story (7) + Art (6) + Sound (6) + Character (5) + Enjoyment (8) = Overall (7)
PS: I really do hope Netflix approves a second season.

Do you want to read a fair and concise review about Shingeki no Bahamut Virgin Soul? The only thing good about the plot is the romance between Nina and the Charioce - and even the romance is kind of annoying. The rest of the anime is just bullshit.
Story 3/10 - It just looks like some inexperienced person wrote the whole thing without planning ahead. There are some aspects that aren't explained at all and other aspects that are poorly explained, affecting the understanding of the story
Art 7/10 - The art was good. There was nothing surprising or outstanding about it in this anime, but, at
...
least, it was decent.
Sound 5/10 - I tend to pay attention to the soundtrack, but I don't remember anything remarkable about this anime soundtrack. The OP of the first arc was metal and I didn't really like it; the ED was ok, the typical anime ED. The OP of the second arc was kind of cool, the kind of song you hear on the radio; the ED was funny, but, again, typical anime ending.
Character 1/10 - Terrible characters plot, many contradictions - that's all have to say. Just thinking about it gets me annoyed.
Enjoyment 6/10 - My enjoyment was good on the first arc, but, then, everything just started to get messed up on the second arc. Then, to be fair, the overall enjoyment was ok, just poorly decent. I wouldn't watch it if I knew this anime would suck.
Overall 4/10 - It was a bad anime, I don't recommend it. If you still want to watch it, go ahead if you don't care about plot and coherence.

Kujira No Kora is beautiful anime in all senses! I realize not everyone will like, because it’s quite a sensitive story; it’s that kind of story which leaves you, at the end, with lots of tears. The story is quite interesting too – it’s filled with a magical world and mysteries; so, I’m sure if you start watching it, you’ll end up watching all episodes in a row, considering how much addictive the show is. I need to be sincere with you guys: the show is really interesting, but the story has some inconsistencies; it’s a shoujo show, but, as far as I’m concerned it
...
ends up being too shoujo – to the point where the story becomes unrealistic, at times, because the show follows rigorously the “shoujo criteria”. Everything said, you’ll love the show, so don’t hold back and just watch it right away! It’s on Netflix, after all, come on, guys!
[Story: 7/10]
[SPOILERS ALERT] There are minor spoilers ahead, otherwise it’s really hard to write this review: but don’t worry, they’re not anything which will make a difference when you’ll watch the anime. Also, review big AF ahead.
Kujira No Kora has a marvelous universe construction, you’ll be dumbfounded by how well constructed it was. The story is based in a utopic island which moves around a sea of sand – and, yes, in the story the sea is made of sand: it’s not a figure of language. The island has a small community living within it; to them, that’s their entire world, for they have no idea of the world which exists out there. It seems that utopic island Thomas More wrote about: everything is beautiful, everyone is an equal (well, almost everyone) and all of the people live their lives with no worries and no violence (it’s almost as if they don’t know what violence is).
That said, there’s something which divides people in two groups: the ability to use a power called “thymia”. Ninety percent of the people can use it – being known, then, as the Marked; the other ten percent can’t use it – being known then as the Unmarked. A board of Unmarked elders hold the political reins of the island; however, the work is divided equally among everyone – even among the Unmarked. So, in this sense, is almost as if that island represented a communist system (if not for the difference in political power among the Marked and Unmarked, but the Marked have super powers; so, I guess that makes them equal lol).
The people who live in the island are different from the people from their ex-homeland: while they can feel such stronghearted, tear dropping, breathtaking feELiNgS, the people from the outside world don’t have feELiNgS. Now, I can begin to show how incredibly intelligent the show is: I see as a portrayal of our world if it were to become a dystopia (in a way it already is if we stop to think about it). And it’s really interesting how you start the show thinking it’s a utopia but, in the end, you realize it’s a dystopia. In this universe, it came a time in human history when humans deemed emotions could only get in the way, so it’d be better to live without them; therefore, they became heartless soldiers. The people in the island can only live this perfect, utopic life in the island, because they ignore the outside world. And it’s really interesting to see, as the show progresses, that some people in the island, who have emotions, can be really cruel at times – so, they are just hypocrites pointing their fingers to the outsiders, who don’t have emotions, and calling them “monsters”. Regarding the outsiders, it’s exposed how far it came the human stupidity to think it’d be better to live in a world without emotions.
So, the brilliance of the show lies this portrayal of us, of how far the human stupidity can go and of how deluded we can become, unable to see our own hypocrisy. Also, the brilliance lies in the way the show can demonstrate emotions in such a stronghearted, tear dropping, breathtaking way. It just kills me how I ended the show soaking wet with my tears. I’d give a 10 for the story, if not for the inconsistencies; nonetheless, it’s an amazing show.
[Art: 10]
The direction of art is splendid! The island is so beautifully constructed visually that it only can aid the understanding that is a little perfect world! The art is so well done that it really makes you think that island is a utopia. The art is so good that I’d watch the show just for the art. That’s how good it is.
[Sound: 10]
It’s rare to watch an anime with an orchestrated soundtrack; just that considered makes the sound of the anime incredible. But besides being orchestrated, the melodies are heavenly, really, they’re heavenly! When you hear that beautiful music, you’ll believe that island is not only a utopia, but it’s heaven. Not to mention the few songs in the show, sung by the own characters, have such a good lyric and carry such a huge emotion that when you start listening, you’ll cry immediately.
[Character: 7)
As I’ve said above, the show can be really, really shoujo – which, on one side, make it amazing to watch all of those guys with emotions blurting out of their skin acting so passionately around other guys (and girls); but, on the other side, it makes the show unrealistic: Suou and Chakuro, for example, are so kind and passionate that their behavior, at times, is just ridiculous (though, most of the time is just tear dropping). Many characters lack depth while some are really deep and well-constructed; so, if you forgive that and the inconsistencies, I can grant you’ll have a great time filled with tears watching the anime.
As I’ve said above, this kind of show is not for everyone, but, in my opinion, the best shows are the ones filled with passion, I’m sorry not sorry.
[Enjoyment: 10] and [Overall: 8.8]
I’ve spoken so much about the show in this review that I guess it’s enough (and obvious) to say, with all of its faults, you’ll love the show. It’s like a son or a daughter (I imagine, for God’s sake I don’t want one now): you’ll love anyway, so just watch the show.
I’m sorry for the long review, believe me, I’m tired of reading it as well, so I get you.
