(I'm going to skip over the plot overview that I see in so many other reviews, since I believe that spoilers are the devil. Also, since the plot overview is right on the anime page...)
When I read the synopsis for this anime, I was instantly interested. I'm a big fan for anime that can explore the values of the bonds between characters. A story about a girl who forgets her friends every week? Sounds like an amazing concept. To say the least, I had high expectations for this show. When I finished, I was slightly disappointed. This show had so much potential in my opinion
...
with it's amazing plot concept, but unfortunately did not deliver in the ways I had hoped.
First of all the story. There wasn't any, since this is a slice of life series after all, so it's perfectly fine. The only real "story" was the big reveal of why Kaori lost her memories. A big issue with this anime is its pacing. The first few episodes were so slow that I would've decided to drop this anime if I didn't tell myself to keep watching. The pacing in the middle was good, but the ending arrived a bit too fast in my opinion, not to mention that the ending was anticlimactic. It was just a bit too much forced drama for me.
Next would be the art style and soundtrack, which are truly the redeeming factors of this anime. The art style is absolutely gorgeous all the way through, especially the style in which the studio chose to portray the characters. The backgrounds were stunning, especially that night sky during the beach episode, it almost made me cry lol. While the show didn't have many internal soundtracks (at least not any that were memorable to me), the OP and the ED were on another level. I NEVER skipped the OP and ED for this series. Both songs were beautifully written and pleasant to listen to, not to mention the animation in the OP and the beautiful drawings in the ED, really breathtaking.
Finally, the characters. I despise Hase so much for being yet another dense and unrealistic protagonist. Not to mention he's extremely cringey at times. He's so friendly to Kaori, but he never has the balls to make a move. I despised his character all the way to the end. Also that ending, like seriously, screaming like a headass when he had a perfect chance to make a move on Kaori. Kaori's character is totally lovable, as if it wasn't obvious already from the beginning. Though she is also a bit dense when it comes to understanding other peoples's emotions and not knowing what "love" is. The other side characters were there for comic relief as far as I'm concerned, though they were each lovable in their own way. The transfer student served his sole purpose of revealing Kaori's past, and then proceeded to be useless and annoying. So overall, Kaori is best girl, Hase is dumb protagonist, blonde dude and Saki were hilarious, and those two "follower girls" were cool too.
So overall, I'd give this anime a 7/10. In a way, this anime delivered to me what I was looking for, though in an incomplete way. This anime is just a bundle of heartwarming, which judging from the synopsis, was pretty apparent from the start. Despite the bad pacing and annoying characters at times, I still really enjoyed it overall, especially the middle parts. It's a short 12 episodes, so it's definitely worth a watch.

Going into this show rather later than everyone else, I've only heard three things about it.
1. Another reborn into an RPG world series
2. Rem is Best Girl
3. Emilia sucks
When I finished the series, I can definitely say that this isn't just your typical "RPG reincarnation" series.
This isn't your "KonoSuba" type of show where most of it is lighthearted comedy and ecchi. The story focuses on Subaru, a main character with very little backstory, who gets transported into a fantasy world for reasons not explained well in the show. Now Subaru is shown to clearly understand the whole "reborn into a fantasy world" genre, as he
...
pretty much points out all the tropes of the genre within the first 3 episodes. The gist is, when Subaru dies in this world, he is re-spawned at a checkpoint with memories of his previous lives. However, no one else can remember what happened to him in that other life before the checkpoint was set. So in a sense, it's really like an actual game. Without spoiling too much, this isn't a bright and heartwarming show. In fact, it's really dark and disturbing at times. The overall story is about Subaru's growth as a character, him trying to find the "good ending" by changing himself from cocky and cowardly, to cocky and brave (what can I say, he's cocky all the way to the end lol).
I don't know much about the studio that animated this. All I know is, they've done the animation for Stein's Gate, which is a fantastic series. Overall, the art style was very pleasant and beautiful.
The soundtrack of this series is something to be praised. Is it me, or do all the songs in this series sound amazing? Not only do they sound great, the music sets the mood super well, especially in that SubaruXRem moment in episode 18(I think). Also I can't be the only one who thinks the music for the rebirth sequence was creepy as hell right?? Amazingly, I think the ending songs for this series really outshone the OPs, you really don't see that often do you?
As for my personal enjoyment, I'd definitely say this series is a solid 9/10. On MAL, a 5/10 is the score for "average" anime, so what does a 9/10 mean for the series? Well it's pretty close to life-changing (that being a 10/10 of course). I'd say that this is one of my favorite series of the 2016-2017 year. It's one thing to have an anime series that's enjoyable in some episodes, but I found myself thoroughly enjoying this series from episode 4 (since episode 1-3 were basically character introductions) all the way to the end. Overall, this series is a clear 9/10 for me. Also regarding who was best girl, it's obviously Rem... That doesn't mean I hate Emilia though, both of them are fine to me lol.

Amazing amazing amazing!! This series will forever be remembered as the most tear-jerking, funny, and heartwarming series ever! Countless times I've found myself in tears, of both sadness and joy, and I can't say ANY show, not just anime and manga, has made me feel such heavy attachment to the characters and to their feelings. If you're reading this comment and haven't watched the series yet, what are you doing?? The best experience is to go in without spoilers of course, but knowing the critical acclaim this series has gotten over the years, it would be surprising to not know spoilers if you haven't seen
...
it at this point. The soundtrack was absolutely gorgeous. I never skipped any OP or ending song once while watching this. Please watch all the way to the end and make it through the tears! The ending was the most heartwarming and relieving ending you will ever see! 10/10 Perfection

Once again Shaft studios delivers an amazing series. I came into this show without knowing what to expect, aside from that it's a slice of life like series. Coming out of it, I ended up finding more than what I initially expected. The story is a strong one, detailing the main character's struggle for success. However, while I really enjoyed the story, the pacing is a bit slow. There are many moments of silence when setting the mood, and it felt like the plot was progressing way too slow. But this alone shouldn't stop you from watching this series, as it is a powerful tale
...
on its own.
The art style is similar to Your Lie in April, if you somehow haven't heard of that series you should watch it. The animation is gorgeous all around, as expected of the great studio Shaft. I've always liked the way that Shaft studios animates. They move aside from the generic animation that most other studios use and instead offer a more unique style. Whether you love it or hate it, you have to admit that uniqueness is one of their greatest strong points.
The soundtrack was not really impressive, unless you count the intro songs. They were super catchy to say the least... Aside from that, the ending songs were okay, and I don't remember any of the insert songs, so I wouldn't say they are great either.
The characters are the super strong points of this series. Each character, especially the main ones, had development of their own which I don't find in many other series. Not much else to say other than watch it to see for yourself. Aside from the slow pacing, everything else about this series is pretty good!

Wonderful anime! Don't let the title and anime cover fool you, this isn't your typical magical girl series. At first I came into this show thinking, "Oh great another magical girl show that shows the value of friendship and what not." But man I was so wrong. This series is wonderfully dark and suspenseful all the way through, and even depressing. The character development was simply amazing. I seriously found myself liking all the characters, even the supposed "bad guy". The ending was pretty amazing too, and in a way, very depressing, but in a good way. The animation by Shaft in this series reminded
...
me of the Monogatari series a lot, especially with the backgrounds, and it is really gorgeous. The soundtrack is mediocre, I didn't really find anything that memorable. Overall, solid 8/10

Wow there's a lot to say about this anime, but let me just first say, this is one of the best anime series I've ever watched. The series tackled more genres and themes than I could even imagine possible in a single series. Discrimination, change, love, friendship, you list them. A beautiful romance tale that includes a fantasy world, and showing how fate can be changed, and that it's okay for change to happen. The love triangles were strong in this anime. There were so many love triangles that it was hard to keep up with. And with that fact in mind, it is really
...
difficult to satisfy all the viewers, as everyone has their own view on the character relations. With a heavy emphasis on feelings and emotions, honestly I did think some parts were pretty sappy and cheesy. But I was really satisfied with the ending, having the characters mature emotionally. While I can't say I cried, I definitely teared up at parts. More than anything, this anime isn't sad, it's just really heartwarming. Watching this series felt like watching a fairy tale movie, like something from Disney. I loved the fantasy world aspect they threw in, as well as the whole "prophecy" aspect of it. The art style was also just amazing. I haven't watched that many works by PA, but this series has a super similar art style to TARI TARI (if you watched it you'll definitely notice the similarities). Overall, if you love the romance genre, you must give this one a watch.

Brilliant animation and soundtrack? Absolutely! Good story? Eh... On the surface, if you're not able to spot the symbolism and message of the story, you can't really tell where the plot is going exactly. It's really a journey of the character more than anything else, seeing the main character develop into someone better. I loved the fantasy and supernatural elements of the whole fictional world setting. Overall though, I enjoyed it a lot! It's definitely a ways off from modern anime, which honestly is a breath of fresh air. Reminds me of the good old Disney films back then. Super solid, Studio Ghibli is the

Amazing? ABSOLUTELY YES!! I was so hyped for this series when I first saw the short films. I personally love the fantasy and magic genre, and I'm so glad this series turned out to be amazing, since a part of me was prepared for this to be a failure. I would love to give this a 10/10, but one thing has prevented me from doing so. Seeing the first 10 or so episodes, I was instantly hooked on this series. The anime made a turn from the fantasy school comedy genre to a more serious sci-fi adventure halfway through. Don't get me wrong, I loved
...
the entire series, but I feel like that change of storytelling came too suddenly, which is why I can't consider this a true 10/10. But oh man! The ending was also just beautiful in every way possible, almost perfect in my opinion. What can I say? I love Atsuko's character. Is she cringy? Yes... Does she have any shame at all? Probably not... But nonetheless, her character was so lovable all the way through, even if she's a bit annoying at times lol. The soundtrack of this entire show really shows the ideal fantasy track. The tracks are epic when need be, and also incredibly radiant. And of course, you can't forget the "a believing heart is our magic" line. Call me childish if you want, but I love lines like those! And you can't ignore the stunning animation done by Trigger studios, who has done many visually stunning works in the past such as Kill la Kill and Kiznaiver. So should you watch it? Yes! If you've read this entire post and you're still not impressed, please still give it a watch anyways!
