I have to admit Ao Haru Ride was a bit of a tough read for me.
It's not exactly your typical shougo manga but as always there are a few cliches throughout the story. I actually found the progression of the friendships between the characters rather refreshing and enjoyed seeing them develop in a natural manner along with the romance of the story rather than them being brushed to the side or developed halfheartedly.
I have to warn any potential readers that there is a fair bit of unnecessary that occurs that could have been avoided with a simple explanation, hence my earlier comment on

Otomen is quite an outstanding shojo manga. It's clever, cute and, in my opinion, very original :)
It's not your average shojo manga in many different ways. For starters the story itself revolves around the feelings of a guy rather than a girl. I find it refreshing to read a romance from the guy's point of view because honestly as a girl I already have a pretty good idea of how girls think when they like someone and it's just intriguing to see how a guy might think in the same situation (even if he is an otomen).
