Neon Genesis Evangelion represents exactly what I expect from an anime: an apparent simplicity that will turn out to be of great complexity, a very detailed world, a mixture of grandiosity and psychological depth. Indeed, at first glance, the series appears to be very simple: Angels attack, wanting to destroy everything, and in front of them we send Eva, large robots which, alone, seem capable of piercing their force field ( A T Field) to be able to kill them.
But the more we will advance over the episodes, the more the series will become a magnificent labyrinth in which I loved getting lost. I

won't say that I understood everything, far from it, but the conspiracy atmosphere, the role of the Seele, Adam, the Second Impact, the plan of Complementarity of Man, everything helped me to hang on to this anime.
The series does not hesitate to use religious and esoteric references, relating to both Christianity and the Kabbalah. We find there The Dead Sea Scrolls (which would have predicted not only the arrival of the Angels, but their exact number), but also a crucified Adam who would be at the origin of these Angels. Allusions to the Frankenstein mythos, making Nerv sorcerer's apprentices seeking to create higher lives. The last Angel, on its own, is a genius idea...
To this grandiose, epic character, to the remarkable fights, to the great diversity of the Angels (proof of the great imagination of the creators of the series), responds a very intimate character, a psychological depth of the characters, especially Shinji. The Eva quickly appear as a metaphor for adolescence, the end of childhood, the desire to develop one's own personality while feeling part of a group, the discovery of responsibilities, etc.
The quality of the graphics, combined with a skilful editing game, allow you to sink into the minds of the characters. Because if Shinji remains the center of the series, the secondary characters are not abandoned. In the end, a remarkable, exciting, impressive series. Some episodes are true masterpieces from every point of view.
