Different concepts and locations of the stories, but similar atmosphere and character relationships. The interactions between the characters both have a romcom lighthearted theme to it, with subtle love triangles between them and an overall fun feel to it.

Both anime start out very different from how they actually portray themselves later in the story, leaving gaps in the plot which only get made sense of as the story goes on - i.e. very psychological. Both contain a lot of deaths, and a mix of "moe" slash gruesome atmosphere. It's not what it seems.

Both super hero anime with a Japanese twist, centering around fighting villainous monsters and "comic book style" bad guys. Both have impressive visuals and action scenes.

Similar atmosphere and world. Similar young main character who loves discovery, tech and hover boards. Both shows have a mysterious young girl who seems out of this world and plays a major role in the plot. Both mecha.

Cross Ange: Tenshi to Ryuu no Rondo
add

Cross Ange is Code Geass's little sister. If you enjoyed Code Geass then there is no way that you wouldn't enjoy Cross Ange. You probably haven't seen it because of a low MAL rating, but the rating is low only due to the show portraying a bit of "realism" and covering subjects such as discrimination which might be hard for some to swallow. Yes, the animation is slightly worse than Code Geass and the plot is not as serious, but otherwise it's pretty much a female version of Code Geass. Both produced by Sunrise, so expect mecha action, plenty of plot twists and a wide range of characters, some of which you will love and some of which you will hate. Cross Ange is a very underrated show, and is a must if you're a Code Geass fan.

Both are action anime which have a large main cast. Either cast are not playing the role of the "good guys", but are more about being those which society condemns, yet we still see the world from their point of view as the protagonists. Both anime have a lot of deaths, some of which revolve around the main cast. Both casts have battles against giant monsters. Both anime have elements of romance between the main characters.

Forget that one series is about sport and another is about drawing manga. Neither of these shows are about those subjects at hand on the surface (at least not as main points), they are first and foremost about the hardships of life and trying to get to the top in your respective field while having support from your peers and friends/family. These shows are mostly about the characters themselves, being branded as geniuses but still having to work hard to achieve their goals and be at the very top (whether it's being a top ping-pong player or top mangaka). Neither of the characters from either series can accomplish their goals through just skill; they also need friends to support them and put hard work into it (whilst having some luck). If you value the actual message that the shows give you will enjoy it if you enjoyed the other one. Applies to bakuman 1,2,3 not just the first one.

Both of these animes have two main characters which are: - Both brother and sister; - Both have a special relationship with each other; - Both are geniuses/are completely overpowered compared to the rest of the cast; - Both put each other as their top priority in almost anything. The shows are also similar in that they have the occasional strategic fights between the protagonists and antagonists. They also have their own level of magic set throughout the plot, although one is more fantasy while the other more not-so-distant future (urban modern environment). Both of the shows also have very colourful and vibrant color pallets and designs. And have harem elements with ecchi.

Although Btooom! has a lot of recommendations towards SAO season 1, it is actually more comparable to SAO II (first arc), because of the: - modern weapons (guns and sniper rifles in one, grenades and explosives in the other, instead of magic spells and swords); - similar Earth-like environments (such as savannahs, forests, urban areas, instead of fantasy world); - two lead/main character relationship is similar (both focus on trying to survive together in both anime, instead of finding a way out). - more similar atmosphere.

Both series follow a plot where a lot of detective work and mind games from both "protagonist" and "antagonist" sides come into fruition. There is no really a "good" or "evil", or black and white, both sides seem to be in the grey areas, which goes for all of the characters in both shows. Atmosphere is centred around the Japanese police in both shows, as well as genius young men. The main characters have certain senses of "justice", which influence their behaviours. And finally the main threat occurring in the shows is somewhere down the line of mass terrorism or genocide.

Both of these anime: - have main characters who seem to not fully comprehend their world; - have main protagonists' love interest play an important part in the plot; - have a peculiar and unorthodox style of animation; - are sci-fi anime with somewhat of a cyberpunk feel; - have people fighting for their survival.

Both anime are Mecha and Space type anime where the people are trying to cope with surviving against a certain impending threat. The real similarity comes from certain characters getting isolated in space from their stations trying to survive until help arrives, from which they start developing feelings for one-another; this in turn leads to scenarios which start to affect the plot in major ways.

Both of these horror anime have a similar eerie vibe and atmosphere. Both have settings revolving around kids from the school disappearing. A shred of consistent mystery surrounds the plot. The character drawings and animation also look rather similar.
