An immortal mother and her mortal son, sounds interesting. What could go wrong? A lot.

Ookami Kodomo is a much better movie with a similar setting (a human mother and her mystical children) which did it right.

The pacing, plot development and characters are disastrous. And in movies which should appeal to one's emotional, those are the most important features.

The first quarter of the movie is decent.

One of the MCs goes from cute kid to generic rebel character to saying he'd be a responsible son to responsible parent to being an unresponsible parent within a short time.

The other MC is as plain as it gets.

The rest of the cast is weak, I feel like they could've been much better. Krim seemed interesting, but ended up being quite pathetic. And Leilia, the second mother, the one who wanted to see her child so much and dreamt of being free, once she becomes free and sees her child, she decides to jump of a tower and leave it all behind. What a fantastic development.

The subplot, war, is actually better developed than the main plot and makes sense.

The art, which was the reason I watched this, was disappointing, but that's on me, I was expecting to see more of Yoshida's art.
The scenaries are gorgeous and the animation is good.The 3D animation was ok but offputting.

Soundtrack is barely there.

In the end, it's still somewhat enjoyable.

In a world where you see mediocre animus receive an 8 all the time, here we have an anime which is criminally underrated.

I don't know what kind of Atlantian evil plot to downrate this anime is happening but it deserves at the very least a 9.

Apparently, some "critiques" were expecting not see magic in an anime about a witch?

Truth is, both the political and the military theme fill their spaces fully well and are the real protagonists of the show, were the magical setting and characters as well explored as in FMA (which I am certain would happen with more running time), Shuumatsu no ... Izetta could very well be FMA's spiritual successor.

The plot is great, well made and clear, full of good moments and fantastic details (Jonas getting scared of the shadow at the beginning of the anime and then what happens to him later were more than enough proof to realise the director knew what he was doing). Maybe some people were expecting it to be complicated enough for them not to understand and then consider this anime a pseudo-cult classic and proceed to give it a 9.

The art is brilliant, it's not perfect but it's definitely in the top 5%. Character art is consistent during 99% of the show, which is incredible. Some scenes definitely deserve a 10 though. Even the 3DCGI used is good and make some really good shots sometimes.

The soundtrack is spectacular, both the ending and the opening are also top tier. After the art, the sound was first thing that caught my attention already in the first few minutes of the pilot.

Regarding the pilot, it's one of the best pilots I've ever seen in every aspect.

It was very enjoyable from the beginning to the end.

To put it simple: Mindless fun.

Don't think too much while watching this, otherwise you might realise the characters are as generic and bland as it gets (Gabiru is HONESTLY the best character so far, Gobta and the dwarf are also decent, but they don't get enough screentime) and the story and worldbuilding is just an agglomerate of ideas a 9yo has.

But the main problem is the pacing, that is something that just can't be overlooked like the rest. It is painfully slow.

Art and sound are good.

Nonetheless, it's quite enjoyable, they give us new characters constantly (which is both good and terrible), ... fun fights, some funny moments and boobs.

Seven/10.
