Visually a masterpiece, OST awesome.
But narratively, disappointed, the journey that she goes through wasn’t developed at its deepest, so sometimes I felt it was rushed, and as a result, her going from a non-sensitive weapon that follows orders to a fully realised human being with emotions didn’t really felt earned to me, I guess.
The fact that she was a « special » soldier wasn’t explained, that she was a f-ing child soldier neither, that Gilbert even if he « didn’t treat her like a weapon » didn’t let her leave the army and be a normal child, etc.
The trauma was mostly well written, sometimes ...

Overall really liked it, it’s a shame the first part is problematic AF to me, because there is a lot of good stuff going on, narratively wise or about chara focus that is really good (and the production is nearly perfect: the music, the chara design, the animation, the BG, the storyboard…)
I fucking hate the whole premise of the dude basically forcing them to run, it is first a bit challenged (chara don’t want to, they have other more important stuff going on, or it’s just not really realistic to aim for that) but when it’s time to get them all together, all is ...

As usual, Kyoani animation/storyboard/direction is crazy+ very good OST.
Very touching story about 2 broken people that deal with depression and suicide, about them connecting to each other and making friends, and about forgiveness. Also talks about disability and bullying/ableism…
For the most part, it’s treated well, and I love their relationship and dynamic.
It’s more the secondary characters that bother me, they’re not as much dvlp as in the manga, and I still hate how we supposed to just gloss over the past actions of Naoka for example (which I kinda get because about past mistakes and forgiveness but I just can’t with her), everything ...

Overall pretty stupidly bad, doesn’t know what it wants to be, changes from episode to episode from seriousness to boring to over the top drama to « hype ». Generally, badly written, the characters change personality btw the start, the middle and the end, their « arcs » are so inconsistent, resolved in one episode but then don’t have impact.
The overarching theme of finding that she really likes the sport, and so her mum was right…is toxic as fuck and not for one second challenged, It’s way too over the top starting with people forcing her to play and then she does a ...

Very good and complicated show, especially in its second part when it gets rid of the freak of the week stuff.
It’s not entirely nihilistic, because of the ending, but it delivers its message very harshly, which threw me off a little bit, because it’s so fast getting to it. Loved the overall themes of love that conquers all/compassion/empathy/the coming of age stories and hitting puberty; mirroring the violent and bad side of human beings: even though we are a deeply flawed species, there’s always hope for change and betterment.
Very beautiful OST that matches the scenes perfectly. Still love the animation and Yuusa style. ...

Extremely bad at every narrative level; so disappointing because there were some possibly interesting things, but so not handled well, I think the people in charge were not at all qualified to talk about such themes.
They tried to copy, or paid homage to former big things like Evangelion and Gurren, but that was laughingly bad because not the same impact.
Overall the messages are expected but so boring and not new in any way, and been done before in a better way, really a shame because they could have talked about really interesting things but again didn’t want to, and not ...

Good premise of a child who has to re-evaluate his life and learn to live, about his mistakes… but did not find it written in a good manner.
I just didn’t like the MC, maybe that was the point, but he was deeply unnerving, I tried to get compassionate or empathetic but he was just a pain, didn’t question himself or anything, I guess the « plot » and twist at the end didn’t allow that but maybe that was then unnecessary given the subject matter. The secondary ones weren’t better but because not really explored and with a lot of cliché situations that ...

Visually very appealing and most of the animation is good if not great, especially certain dance sequences. Good OST.
But big disappointment, so deeply sexist in its narrative and messages, even tho it had the potential to subvert so many ideas engrained in our society, and here in sport/dance.
But just didn’t tell anything about gender roles, or sexism, etc‧, just follows the good old status quo, kinda reinforces it even, with straightforward ideas, sometimes deeply problematic ones (misogyny, heteronormativity, the comparison women=beast to tame, etc), +some sexual assault for fun/jokes, oversexualisation, etc
And the characters or their « arcs » didn’t rectify that : loved some ...

Very good coming of age story.
Visuals are really good, a lot of “fresh” colours, charadesigns cute and beautiful, ost good, the overall storyboarding and direction is also very good, and tells the story as much as the dialogue does.
About teenage girls growing so much as people = Mari who is looking for a meaning in her life and doesn’t want to waste her teenage years (kinda for all of them too), Shirase who is looking for her mother, Yuzuki for friends and Hinata who kinda joins just because but doesn’t want to regret anything or stay in the past, and also looking for smth ...
