Seraph of the End Thoughts/Review
Story: Story wise, the anime had a lot of potential and premise, but it also shows similarities to other clichés and tropes from other modern anime (Attack on Titan and Black Bullet). Humanity is mostly wiped out by an unknown virus leaving a tenth of its population in surviving. Our main character survives the outbreak and it shows his struggles in the new world. What I liked about the story was the introduction to the setting, I mean everyone died in the first 20 secs. NOW that escalated quickly. The separation of our main characters Yu and Mikaela was also
...
an interesting plot device when we realized in the opening, that he was still alive. It reminded me a lot of Aldnoah Zero where we see two perspectives from the respective sides of the story. The only flaw I saw in the story was the slow pacing. The first 2 episodes set the story, but on wards it felt dragged to the point where I felt 3 of the episodes could be combined into a single one. It wasn’t until episode 11 that finally shit went down! As for the conclusion, it was very anti-climactic and lack luster with only more questions. It didn’t hype me up for the 2nd season, but nonetheless I’ll be watching it for answers.
Characters: I liked the characters, but the emphasis on bonds and friendships often suffocated me in taking it seriously enough. Yu is a hard headed individual with social issues in the beginning because of his past and is dead set on vengeance since his childhood incident. We see him develop more into a friendly character and is confirmed in being a tsundere waifu. Shinoa, our female lead character, is my favorite in that her personality is different from all the characters in the series. She’s playful and quite the jokester towards everyone and mostly Yu. In other wards she’s a real life troll to me. Now I know what you’re thinking, is there romance? Strictly speaking minimal. The relationships between the characters are all about friendship and being comrades with similar circumstances. What I don’t get is the relationship between Shinoa and Yu, there was no signs or rather visible signs Shinoa was interested in Yu until the ending. But hey, I like that pairing more than Yu x Mikaela. We will have to see for more. Next character I’ll be talking about is Mikaela, there’s not much to say here since he DOESN’T GET SCREEN TIME FOR 10 EPISODES. He’s basically the only person who is recognized by Yu as true family or like a brother. He’s willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of others while Yu will not let anyone near him be taken away from him. His true motives aren’t revealed until the end.
Animation: As for the animation, I honestly think the animation is rather poor. I expected amazingness from the Wit Studio, the animators for Attack on Titan, but it obviously didn’t transfer over. The main issue I have is the backgrounds, which though are beautiful by themselves, only make the animated characters look bad. The water painting like look makes the cell shaded characters stand out more which lets us see some poor looking animation from a distance. It’s like in the old days where in Dragon ball Z, you saw and knew what rock was going to blow up before the attack. Also with more than 90% of the characters wielding swords, I expected at least a decent number of sword fighting sequences, not quick time single slash attacks. I’m sorry to admit, but the preview and opening have the best animation sequences compared to the entire series.
Music: Probably the highest score I’m giving it. The OST is created by my favorite composer, the godly Hiroyuki Sawano. Same composer who created music for Attack on Titan, Kill la kill, Aldnoah Zero, and my favorite Guitly Crown. The music fit really well throughout the series and the opening sounds amazing. I didn’t realize it was all English until I found the lyrics for it online. It stuck to me when I first saw the preview for the anime and the first episode.
Recommendation: Binge Watch it. Or skip over until 2nd season comes then binge watch all of it.
Seraph of The End has an adrenaline pumping start, but the slow pacing makes the anime stale until the very end where we crave answers.

DISCLAIMER: This is an honest review from an anime perspective and I won't compare it to the original source material as much as possible. No spoilers as well, enjoy and I hope I've lighten up some moods about this show.
Intro/Continuation
So other reviews are too one sided and are about people crying over how they messed up an adaptation. So I'm gonna give an anime only perspective to this series and not fanboy over how the series sucks compared to the original.
Story 7/10
Tokyo Ghoul Root A is the season 2 to the original Tokyo Ghoul regardless of the fancy "Root A." It continues off on
...
the in medias res or height of action from where we left off in the first season. The ongoing battle between CCG and Aogiri Tree. We see Kaneki walk away from his epic confrontation with Jason and completely changed from how he was before. The story takes a turn when Kaneki makes a certain decision that changed the course of everything we understood about him and it surprised everyone (including the Manga readers to their initial ill content). The story goes on about Kaneki's inner struggle with humanity like from before, except that its been worse since his torture with Jason which leads to psychological side effects. We see him do actions, we know normally he wouldn't do and its a bundle of confusion on our part on his decisions. The story also gives a glimpse on how his behavior is affecting everyone around him so it goes into the story of some of the side characters. The weakness of the story however, is trying to patch things up with the previous season. The story strides away from the main interest (Kaneki) and goes on about everything else going around in society, mainly the CCG's perspective. Though the story poses a two unique perspectives, one being ghouls and one being CCG, we must remember its called TOKYO GHOUL, not TOKYO COMMISSION OF COUNTER GHOULS. Another plot hole in this series was the beginning when they introduced like 4 new characters, but didn't go into an detail of who they were or whether they were significant. Some of them didn't even make another appearance at all.
Characters 7/10
The main reason people watch this series isn't just the idea of a world of ghouls, but the chronicle of Kaneki, the protagonist of the "I did nothing Wrong Club." Seriously, he doesn't catch a single break. Since his incident at the end of last season, his whole character seemed to have changed. We see him do things we couldn't believe he would do from episode 1 as a shy bookworm. He's by far, the most dynamic character that I've ever known, enduring many hardships, you see how far transformed with not just his hair. We see him psychologically suffer from his previous experiences and how he struggles to keep his sanity making us have lots of sympathy for him like when he was tortured. The only issue with Kaneki however was that he barely had any dialogue or analysis during the first half of the series. His weak character development start was one of the issues I had with the series as a whole. We do see more development and insight on side characters though which was helpful since in the first season they showed characters we didn't care about and never showed them again until now. The whole Anteiku group is characterized heavily in this season which was a pro for me. Touka however was my favorite developing character in this season. You see her cope with the fact Kaneki's changed and try to reunite with him to like how it was before. You can call this friendship, I and many others call this the OTP or the ship to ride over tsunamis. I mean its pretty obvious and a tease for us fans. The CCG also get lots of decent screen time to show the opposite side of the coin with Amon and Akira. You see the pair have their moments and get a glimpse into their reason for fighting ghouls as well as their pasts. They synergize really well throughout the whole series from the light comedy to their own unique problems.
Animation 6/10
Studio Perriot was the studio that animated the 1st season and their back again with season 2. The animation quality for season 2 has greatly improved from season 1 by a lot. The only problems is every other episode has better quality. You can easily tell which episode they poured their money, time, and tears into while normal episodes with no action or meaning have below subpar animation. Being a large studio and infamous for many projects, I wished for a constant quality of animation throughout but since Perriot is known for Naruto series, I can't expect much. I just keep thinking to myself how amazing Tokyo Ghoul would look if animated by studio Ufotable (Known for Fate/Zero and Fate/Stay Night). Another piece of info which doesn't influence my score in any way, but worth noting was the censors. Censors didn't premiere for the first episode but later on began to appear, but that was due to the ISIS issue with Japan with the tragic beheading of a reporter. In the blu-rays they will be gone like it was with season 1.
Sound 8/10
The sound for Tokyo Ghoul has changed from the 1st to 2nd season. I felt the opening song was fair, but not up to par with "Unravel," from the previous season and many fans agree, but I don't absolutely hate it. The lyrics characterizes and symbolizes Kaneki perfectly, it just the animation of the opening I found bland. The 2nd season focused on many quality pieces of background music which I found really well composed, but that's coming from a guy that doesn't play any instruments. I would say the background songs were the best and were very well executed. The strongest point I would argue, would be the OST of this season and worthy of being downloaded.
Overall 7/10
I enjoyed the series from the ground up, regardless of whether people thought the adaptation wasn't up to expectations. YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER, ITS AN ANIME ORIGINAL STORYLINE and not directly from the source material. Your complaints should go to the director of the first season for moving plot arcs causing this season to have issues patching things up. I thought The characters were very interesting and the atmosphere was immersive. The story line was created by Ishida Sui (Author of the manga) himself and gave us a great "what if" perspective from the original manga. I recommend people wait for the Blu-rays to release if you haven't watched it yet. I can't wait for the OVA on Tokyo Ghoul Jack that's coming out later this year. Its sad, but I don't think there will ever be a season 3 unless they somehow magically get enough sales on Tokyo Ghoul;re.

I got sucked into this manga and read this in a couple days, it was so filled with love and drama I kept trying to stop and pace myself. This manga's protagonists really grew on me and reminded me of myself so I grew to love this manga more than I should of. When it ended, I teared up a bit. In my opinion, it was way better than Kimi Iru Machi (A Town Where You Live). Each chapter I read made me want to know more and was perfectly paced with the drama, though some say it might be dragging on, I thought it

synced well with the protagonist's state of mind. I found the atmosphere of the story very pleasing and really made me felt as if I was there. You begin to sympathize with characters and sometimes against their decisions which makes the hype for the next chapter greater. I found the genuine love between the protagonist and lover very touching and sweet with the hardships they faced together. The only thing I didn't feel made it complete was the rush towards the last 3 chapters, but the 158.5 Chapter that recently came out really made the manga complete. I would love an anime adaptation because of the cliff hangers it might produce to grab the audiences attention. Overall, It's a magnificent and beautiful piece of work with dramatic twists on every turn, but also demonstrates the struggles and hardships of romance in such a compelling way until the end, when it shows that love is precious and can overcome anything for the one you truly love.

(This is a descriptive review and my opinions on the anime to help new viewers)
Sword Art Online is one of the most impressive anime I've watched so far with its excellent artwork and animation. The story revolves around a virtual game where players play in a MMORPG with other real players. They wear virtual reality helmets to enter a virtual world but it's suddenly a death trap when players can't log out and the only way out is to clear the game by going to the last floor, 100. The deaths in the game leads to death in reality which pins many characters with one

another.
Story 10/10
The story is really simple but is a very appealing one with many side stories to show character development. To reach floor 100 to escape the game while avoiding death in the game. The concept of death in game and in reality is very unique. The realization that players who kill other players in game make them murderers in reality makes it frightening but also the fact that many children die in the game too. MOST IMPORTANTLY though is the developing relationship of Kirito and Asuna in the story while surviving in the virtual world, each episode that passes their relationship is enhanced while interacting with dangers.
Artwork/Graphics 10/10
The visuals of SAO are amazing, there's no limits to the orientation because its a fantasy virtual world. The beautiful landscape designs make all more appealing in 1080p HD. Character designs are unique to the main characters as well, such as Kirito, a solo player with a black cloak makes him stand out from others while Asuna's matches her guild in the game.
Animation 9/10
Animation is very great when it comes to the action scenes. They're fast paced and fluent with the scenarios. Sword fights are very amazing and speed up with the tension in the scene.
Connections (Spoiler) : I've read the light novel and the story is very wonderful and romantic with a lot of emotion( I love it and I'm a guy). The anime is matching the plot with the Light Novel but also inserts side stories in from the novels as well (Silica Side Story Ep 4). 25 Episodes will maybe actually enough to cover the 1st and 2nd volumes of the Light Novel and if it's a success can lead to a Season 2 featuring volume 3 and 4. I believe this series has the potential to go beyond 2 seasons if they move through the plot thoroughly.
Last Comments: If you love fantasy, adventure, action, and some romance then this is the anime for you. The romance between the main protagonists develop more later on so rest assured.
Similiar Anime Recommendations:
Accel World: The same writer as Sword Art and it's one of his newest works. A story in 2046 where the main character enters a virtual online fighting game to compete against others. It was recently aired before SAO and is on Hulu.
.hack//Sign: Same MMORPG setting and situation of not being able to log out. It's and old series but has the majority of the plot the same as SAO.

First anime to watch and is the most action filled one out there. Very long extensive story makes an episode seem like a day. Best action adventure anime ever made.
