This show is quite something. To open, there is the obvious - this show highlights, likely accidentally, much of the crises and stress embedded in Japanese work culture. In this sense, it is clear why the show takes place where it does - a cozy bar in the corner of a larger building - and why the main character is written as he is - a laid-back master of his craft. The most exciting thing about this story is the narrative's flexibility - it is less about alcohol and how cool it is to be drunk and more about the glory of Third Places -

This show is perfect at what it sets out to do. It sets out to be a light series of comedic vignettes that chronicle the journeys of a newcomer through the streets of a new city (Beijing-esque) - and it succeeds fabulously at that. The animation is perfect for the story's tone, and the writing, while not particularly ground-breaking, is above average. While it is not high art, I recommend watching it with friends or in short bits. Perfect for playing in the background at family gatherings.
