I feel like this anime had so much potential to really get me hooked but it fell a little short.
In my opinion, they should have either made it into a 25 episode anime so as to not leave it feeling rushed and/or incomplete.
-Characters/Story-
Yukine: A lot of focus was put on Yukine(which was fine) but they scarificed really interesting elements in the story that could have made a huge impact on how intriguing the anime is. But I did enjoy his character developement quite a lot. He was probably the only character who made the most sense in the anime.
Bishamon: She's a really awesome
...
character. They rushed through her story too much though. Initially it seemed like theres no way she could forgiove what happened. But... what exactly happened between them? It's too vague. There didn't seem to be real fire behind it.
Kazuma: Again... what exactly happened?
Nora: No actual developement into her character whatsoever despite her being the one who plays a substantial role in the end of the season.
Kofuku: I honestly don't have much to say about her. I really liked her a lot and they did a pretty good job. Gave un just enough of a story for us to know her but yet keep us guessing a little. They didn't give her so much screen time to take away from other important elements. Yet they also gave us just enough to appreciate and feel atached to both her and Daikoku in my opinion.
Hiyori: Again not much to say (which, in this case isn't a good thing since she's the main female protagonist). She just felt like such a generic character. There were moments where she shined but that was it. Although she's cute and likable, there's just something missing.
Rabou: Was actually a character I liked a lot. Even if Yato has moved on from his past, Rabo and him are the two beings who should understand each other the most amongst all the other gods. EVen if they have their differences now, they're both living in a world where their existance has almost completely been forgotten. Despite that, the interaction between him and Yato was felt so out of touch and disconnected. It's a shame really.
-Art-
The characters designs were great.
I really liked Yato, Bishamon and Rabou. But the animation was...well...meh.
I also really liked the designs of some of the phantoms and then there were some that were mediocre at best.
All I can say is, this anime could have been so much more.
Somehow, despite all these weak points there was a certain enjoyment factor and that is why I'm kind of tempted to give it a 7/10. But when I look at some other animes that are an actual 7 this just doesn't cut it somehow. It's a shame cuz I mean... Yato. Do I need to say more?
