For the rest of you here is my updated review on completion of this masterclass of classic sport/boxing anime tropes and style.
I've watched a lot of old school classic anime and new heros to the genre like Boku No Pico Academia. This delivers that classic feel of Ashita No Joe, but with a level of excitement and pacing more common in new 12/24 episode seasonal shounen. I wasn't really expecting anything from a show that looked to be from the wrong side of the 90s, but boy was I wrong.
Mahoujin Guruguru is perhaps a more "appropriate" version of Konosuba. While I don't necessarily believe that fans of one will be won over by the other, they feature many similarities. Both shows feature a reluctant hero thrown into a world of idiots. Often times the main character can't be bothered to put in any effort and just gets lucky. The story has been done to death. For reference Baka To Test is the same thing but much better.
The art is very average. I have no complaints. The cute girls look cute. The jock looks like a jock. The sound doesn't stand out. The characters are absolutely pathetic. The main character has no personality and is good at whatever he sets his mind to. The love interest is taken right out of My Romantic Teen Anime SNAFU, but worse.
