I hate when I see a story that has potential to be good or great and ends up being fair at best. The art and character design was well done and the sound fit very well. However, the story wasn't set-up well and the character interactions weren't as smooth as I would have liked. Whenever I finish an anime and think how good it should have been, I begin to wonder about the manga behind the anime. Either the manga itself is only decent or the creators of this anime dropped the ball. I would only suggest watching this if you
...
have spare time. This isn't a must see, but on the contrary is just good enough to not quit in the middle.
Story: The story of this anime starts out rather fast in my opinion. The first episode starts out with a bang and peaked my interest. I thought, "all-right I've been waiting for another fast paced action anime." Unfortunately I was dead wrong. The story slows down dramatically after this and it is basically all character development with small mundane stories. In fact, the next 20 or so episodes are rather bland and many of them should have been combined in my opinion. If this was a 13 episode series instead of 25, I think it would have been much more enjoyable. The plot doesn't peak again until towards the end. And instead of slowly building the climax it just appears, which caught me off-guard. Slow,Slow,Slow, WHAT!!........considering the flow of their story, the end seemed very rushed.
Art: The art was very modern and well done in my opinion. The characters were well drawn and accurately drawn( as in their legs and arms don't look like toothpicks). Also, the magical powers/holy powers (Zaiphon as called in the anime) were well done and unique. Instead of stealing from other stories, they created their own unique form of attacks. Along with that, the explosions were everything you expected them to be.=)
Sound: The fact that I didn't really notice anything bad about the sound means they did a good job. The voices were well suited for the characters and the sound effects were top notch.
Character: The characters I found to be distracting. The main character named Teito, relied on other people throughout the entire story and never lost his arrogant,I'm better than you, attitude. The other character persona's didn't bother me too much and fit the characters. However, I noticed there was too much male-male interactions that were unnecessary. Characters were constantly blushing because of other guys and at times I would think I was watching a shounen ai. =(
Enjoyment: .....Better than having nothing to watch I suppose.
Overall: I'd give this a 6. It wasn't good or great, but it was fair. To be honest I stopped watching this around episode 7 and only got back to it because I had nothing better to watch and don't regret finishing it off.

When I first seen this anime coming out I was very excited because it appeared to be much like Hikaru no Go which is one of my favorite anime. However, after watching several episodes I realized they are nothing alike. The only thing they have in common is the fact that they both revolve around games. The game in Saki is Mahjong. I've tried to play Mahjong in the past but could never completely understand it and hoped this anime could help. Unfortunately, it can't.
Unlike Hikaru no Go, Saki focuses more on the characters than the game itself. The episodes
...
will spend a single episode on character development rather than them playing Mahjong. Plus, there seems to be a redundant trend of every girl liking some other girl. In some cases this is alright, but in excess it hurts the show. Basically, every episode has included a moment with two girls showing their affection for one another.....too much
The writers are also trying to make it seem like personality has more to with winning than skill. They even made a character that can disappear because she doesn't stand out in a crowd. I know anime isn't about realism, but come on. Also, the characters moods change frequently and I agree moods affect play, but not to the extent they show. Characters can simply go from losing a match to winning because they remembered people want them to win.....at least think of something better!
I wasn't gonna write a review, but after seeing a 10 and an 8 I couldn't help myself. All I can say is I hope this gets better because I plan on finishing it.....I got my fingers crossed

I remember stumbling across Berserk and watching part of the first episode before deciding this wasn't for me. About a year later someone was telling me how good it was and I decided to try watching it again. I'm very glad I did; this anime has turned out to be one of my favorite violent anime. It is full of continuous action which is one reason I found myself watching countless episodes back to back.
As it turns out the first episode has relatively nothing to do with the story line. In fact, it must be so far into the future that
...
I don't think it belongs. So if you don't like it after the first episode, I still suggest you watch at least two more before passing judgment.
The plot is relatively simple as it follows a group of mercenaries who try to battle against the fate of having no homeland. The main story focuses on a man named Guts who is the coerced into fighting for in a group known as the Band of the Hawks. This band is led by a man named Griffith whose ambition is equaled by no one. I found myself unable to stop watching after I was drawn into the story.
Along with the first episode, the last episode doesn't seem to fit. It's clear to me that the writers were planning on a multi-season anime. Otherwise, they would not have left so many answers unknown. I also doubt they would have started the first episode so far into the future if they had known they would only have one season. If you can overlook these two flaws then this anime is almost perfect.
I couldn't overlook these and that's why I gave this anime an 8.
The artwork was also very good and the voices matched the characters. Of course, I only watch subbed versions because normally English dubbed versions always give characters voices that don't match very well. People who enjoy action/ war anime will also much enjoy Berserk.

Zaion is a basically a story about a meteorite which landed on Earth containing an alien virus that has begun infecting humans. So basically this is very similar to the Resident Evil theme. The story must also take place in the future because they have warriors using nano-technology and mecha-type machines to fight against these mutated humans. They also decided to stick in a bit of romance which is basically a love at first site ordeal. Overall, the series is worth watching considering it's only 4 episodes and can be watched while
...
you're waiting for your ongoing anime to be posted.
Unfortunately, I can't help having a sense that I was robbed. This could have been a really good series if they wanted to make it a 12-13 episode series and started from the beginning. However, this story takes place after people have been infected and people have already been created to destroy the infected beings. Seeing as it was only a 4 episode series they could only hint upon different things that could have happened. Plus, how things came to be are never explained in detail and it seems like the plot was rushed.
Considering the anime was only 4 episodes I thought they did a pretty good job with character development and the character art suited my taste. Plus the sound fit in well and I enjoyed it......still I'm bummed it was only 4 episodes.
To all those who enjoy an action anime I suggest you watch it. And to those who don't, it's only 4 episodes.....you might as well watch it too

Gantz involves a very unique story line that no other anime can match. This anime is filled with blood, gore, and constant killings. Whats so interesting about this series is that anyone can die at anytime. I actually find this to be a downfall to Gantz. As soon as I find a character that I don't want to die, HE DIES!! I like to understand the characters and if they keep dying soon after their background information is given, that information becomes useless. However, because I don't want to ruin the plot I can't go into detail.
Besides
...
the fact that there is little information on the characters, there is also little information on the weapons. People just keep pulling out new weapons.....WHEN DID THEY GET THESE?? I mean when they showed them in the earlier scenes they had nothing and in the next clips they have every weapon available.....HUH??
By the way: THIS IS NOT AN ANIME FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO SEE A ROMANCE....
For some reason I felt I had to list the things I disliked first. Luckily the good things counteract the bad. Unfortunately, I watched this anime a long time ago and the easiest things to remember are the things I disliked.
The plot is complex, unique, and well done. Many of the episodes progress slowly, but there is a good share of fighting as well. The characters are very simple despite the complex plot. There is the typical male with a hero complex who feels he must do right no matter the consequences. Then there is the male who feels he is forced to play hero after having pressure applied by the male with the hero complex. However, what would two males be without a damsel to rescue?? Nothing and that's why the third main character is a beautiful girl. Two males and 1 female mean one thing, a love triangle. A love triangle forms, but I don't recall this playing much importance in the plot. There are other characters as well, but there is no need to list them because a lot of them die =*(.
Overall, this is a pretty good anime, but it's only worth watching if you watch the 2nd season with the final 13 episodes. A lot happens in the second season and I feel it is better than the first season. The plot is even more dynamic and things happen that you will never expect. With that said, watch the second season after watching the first season!!
Probably not the greatest review, but that's life. You don't always get what your expecting and my review could have been worse. I could have had spoilers everywhere, but I decided to be nice \,,/ (<>..<>) \,,/
