Extremely blunt review. Spoilers.
This season managed to captivate me with the first arc: Gun Gale Online. It had a solid plot with new characters and it felt a lot like the beginning of Sword Art Online. Who's this death guy? How does he kill people if the nerve gear was downgraded? It kept me on the edge of my seat, wanting to know what happened next. Unfortunately, this arc also had a creepy, rapey main villain like the one in the second half of season 1. I give this arc of the series a 10.
Then, we have what feels like a filler arc: Excalibur. Let's
...
overpower some lame CPUs and fight a generic villain, then get an item that makes us even more overpowered than we already were. Throwaway arc. It deserves a 1.
Finally, we have another big arc: Cripple Girl. Somehow, our faggot protagonist gets schooled by an in-game girl nobody knows about. We find out she's actually good at video games because she has AIDS or something and she never leaves her hospital cell. This arc fucking bored me and got worse every episode. In the end, cripple girl gets to digitally visit the special ed room our other protagonists go to. It's awful, but at least it had a skeleton of a plot, so I give it a 5.
Overall, the only reason this season is good at all is because of the first arc. I recommend skipping the others. In total, I give the series a 7.
