i was recommended this anime while i was in school about 7 years ago and i probably would've given this show an 8 back then.

i think what this anime does well is sound design, i watched the series in sub but i also like to check out the dub and while some characters definitley sound amazing in english, it suffers from the usual "i'm the main male character" voice that for some reason every dub back in the day had, you know the one, but when bandou or lucy (not in nyu mode) speak in english you can tell some love was put into the ... characters.
i hate incest in anime and fan service, i almost dropped it after the latter half of the first episode felt like it was going full ham in that direction, why couldnt they be good friends? like that would've worked better with lucys jealousy which ended in tragedy.
the one character i gave a shit about the development was "papa" or kuruma, his arc was genuinely heartbreaking.

the opening is beautiful, the ed is typical 2000's anime bleh... and the overall soundtrack tugged on heartsrings.
i was surprised at how well this show concluded, i love a "never to be resolved cliffhanger" and yes i know the manga went on after but from what i've heard everything past that clock chime is just unnecessary.
i can see why the duffer brothers mentioned this anime as one of their influences for stranger things, season 4 feels a lot like elfen leid but without the sympathetic angle.

also diclonius means double sprout and now i'm picturing lucy with two Brussel sprouts on her head
