I felt as though I was compelled to write a review for this one.

I did not like this manga at all.

The main character does not feel like they have anything going for them other than that they are a dog who doesn't want to do things. Even then, the whole manga is that they are then forced do said things. It's a trope that's sadly becoming more and more common these days in the Isekai genre. If the lead had anything going for him at all beyond just being some op dog, it would be a far better story, but the fact is that there ... just isn't anything else to him. Actually, hold tight. He has a driving need to make childish jokes and eat a lot, so there's that if you care so much.

The side characters that get substantial screentime are all women who have next to no personalities themselves. There's the pure at heart owner. There's the generic edgy swordswoman. There's the seductive witch. They're all copy-pasted from other series and none of them do anything original other than their scripted generic duties as a character with the trope they adhere to.

If you like wish-fulfillment and pseudo-harems and fanservice, you might enjoy this manga, but at the end of the day, there are far more engaging works out there that can give you all of the same things this one does.

The author was just too afraid to do anything new.

This series is one in the large wave of Konosuba rip-offs that emerged after the drastic success of that series. Unfortunately, it doesn't really seem that the author of 'Level up by Eating' had any actual plans for a story or characters, simply the motivation to make something to make money.

My issue with the series largely came down to the characters. The MC is completely uninteresting. His personality is template-typical, and he does nothing new or innovative other than become op by eating things and amassing skills. It does the 'skill collection' trope just like many other series have done, but it doesn't take the ... time nor the energy it needs to do anything satisfying or new with it. Most everything is forgotten shortly after use.

I may have just grown too old or too senile, but the female lead may even be worse than the MC. She is just an idiot character, which can be amazingly done, but that's really all she is. She doesn't seem even the slightest bit deeper than that.

As a really short ending note, I can't imagine anyone actually liking the comedy in this series. It's juvenile and cringeworthy.

I suggest this series if you want to read something that will feel like a waste of time.

I love Isekai stories, and I came across this one drawn in by how interesting the premise was. I've read a ton of isekai before, and I love some of the darker ones when they're done well. Unfortunately, this one is the exact opposite of one that's done well.

Lets be real. There's nothing here other than a poorly-drawn monster slave harem. The attempts at being a darker series are completely overshadowed by the bad art, pitiful characters, and generic storyline. If you want something dark or even slightly satisfying to read, don't read this. All you'll find here is basic fanservice and scenes you've already ... read before.

I definitely disagree with Jamada's review. This series definitely knows its market and knows exactly what it's doing. There is no figurative dick sucking, just very literal sex with underaged-looking characters with no semblance of a story in sight.

This series has sex. It is literally hentai. Please read past chapter 8 if you don't believe me.

There is nothing going on here. The characters have no character. There is no plot. There is nothing but a fantasy for lonely Japanese otaku to self-insert into. The MC is literally a blank slate with two cute obedient caring elf girls waiting on his beck and call.

Even if it's ... a parody, it fails at being even a bad one. There is no relevant comedy or humor anywhere in this series. There is absolutely no justifiable reason to give this series a high score. Even if you want cute, easy to read material to self-insert into, there are tons of things out there to read, so go read those instead, they're literally everywhere.

I can't believe anyone would ever give this series anything higher than a 3, and that's stretching it.

I don't often write reviews unless I see a series that doesn't have any and I fell like there's a passionate need for me to say something.

I am a HUGE isekai reader. I've read a ton, and I ultimately plan to read every single one. This one I came across and I gave it a shot, and unfortunately, it fails at doing anything special almost immediately. The first chapter had some small amounts of new stuff, but anything after that is just hard to read.

Actually, let me correct myself. This series is one of the worst isekai series out there.

Let me explain. If you like ... the generic teleported to another world, get op magic powers, a sexy girl companion that's into you, action scenes, adventures guild stuff, and more stuff like that, then you might like this one. But I can promise you that there's countless series out there that do exactly what this one does while also having a soul.

What I mean by a soul is that this series feels like the author was writing this for money and not for anything else. The characters are from a template. The villains are always just the typical evil dudes. The power-ups are all standard as they can be. I could go on and on.

If you want something like this, but done (relatively) well, read Legend. If you want something like this done really well, read Tensei shitara Ken deshita. There's ultimately no reason to read this series. You only have one life, spend it reading something good instead of reading this.
