Story - 8/10
Char's Daily Life is, as the name suggests, a Slice of Life manga. Nevertheless, the mangaka opted for a comedic, at times almost absurd approach to the genre. Char's Daily life tells various interconnected stories from the life of the man we know as Char Aznable and his newfound friends in situations both mundane and taken straight out of the mechanime, but completely ill-fitting to our reality. Nevertheless, it is not an episodic manga and there is character and plot development.
Art - 7/10
It's an enjoyable artstyle that does its job, not much else to say.
Character - 9/10
You'd think that a Gundam parody manga
...
would have pre-estabilished character archetypes, and you'd be right. Despite that, this manga makes them feel fresh, and develops characters and relationships in fun directions that I would not have expected from a simple parody manga.
Enjoyment - 9/10
It's a joy to read and I feel most people would like it even if they knew nothing at all about Gundam's UC - but is obviously better for people familiar with it.
Overall - 8/10
Char's Daily Life is a very good Gundam parody manga, and I'd even say a recommended read for anyone with even a passing interest in the Universal Century or comedy.

Story - 10/10
SoreMachi is a Slice of Life story, but mixed with many many different genres, each feeling like if the author decided to write a dedicated manga, every single one of these would be good.
Despite its simple core, the writing in the manga is truly excellent and the somewhat chaotic (I assume on purpose) progression of the lives of the staff of the Maid Cafe Seaside, especially the Main character Arashiyama Hotori, is both fluid to read and never gets old. The first few chapters are kinda meh ngl, alongside a single weeb-brained later on, but the overall quality is very high and consistent
...
all the way through, with some really standout chapters.
Art - 8/10
It's an artstyle similar to late 90s shows like Serial Experiments Lain, The Big O and the 2006 show Welcome to the NHK. Warm and simple, it just works well in every way. There's also some creative or fun facial expressions in the manga, which is a plus.
Character - 10/10
The manga's *big, big, big* strength are its characters, and literally every single one of them is loveable and well developed, no matter how late the character was introduced or how minor they were. An example is a character going through something similar to what Itsuki and Iketani from Initial D had. Despite only having limited interactions with the rest of the plot or characters, his arc was one of my favorites, with an excellent ending. Of course, the main character stole the show. Hotori is much more than the archetype recognizable in the first few chapters and a character you just can't help cheering for.
Enjoyment - 10/10
I binged SoreMachi in a couple of weeks, reading chapters every day. It's very, very fun and by the ending, I was craving more.
Overall - 10/10
Fantastic manga. The most fun story I've read since Mob Psycho 100.

Story: 5/10
Are you familiar with the premise if the Anime/Manga Great Teacher Onizuka? This is basically the same thing, only written about half a decade earlier, only focusing less on the personal problems of the students and more about the troublemakers.
Or so it seems, as the plot basically gets abandoned for a more traditional Yakuza plot in the second half of the OVA. Both halves are good enough, but could have been both improved on.
Art: 6/10
High School Jingi is animated in a typical late 80s/Early 90s artstyle, but borrowing from several other styles such as one reminiscent of Leiji Matsumoto's in one scene for
...
example. The character designs are also blocky and simple. I think it's quite charming, despite looking way cheaper than the average production. Unfortunately, the female characters look kinda horrible from a regular distance, due to poorly drawn noses.
Sound: 6/10
The soundtrack is a contemporary synthpop influenced one, which in my opinion makes it automatically good until proven otherwise. Nevertheless it's quite standard. Unfortunately, the Ending theme is quite a mediocre song.
Characters: 7/10
The main character of this OVA is basically Eikichi Onizuka, but with nicer yet simultaneously way scarier and sleazier, while pulling combat moves straight out of the Ryu Ga Gotoku video games. Nevertheless, he's a fun main character. The secondary characters matter little.
Enjoyment: 7/10
It's quite a fun way to spend 50 minutes with some mindless fun. Its funny, it's charming and surprisingly less perverted than could be deducted from one of the first scenes. I quite liked it.
Overall: 6,5/10
I liked it, though it's probably not the best anime.

Banking on the modern revival of 1980s pop culture, we have a remake of a 1980 Tokusatsu inspired children's anime... by Ryosuke Takahashi of Armored Trooper VOTOMS fame? Well, I just had to check this one out and I am glad I did.
Story: 5,5/10
Muteking the Dancing Hero is an anime based on a simple concept, seen in anime and western animation alike hundreds of times before. An evil plot threatens the regular lives of people in Neo-San Francisco. Mixed in there is a subtle critique of modern day large scale capitalism, gentrification and consumerism from a most likely social democratic perspective. As for the main
...
plot itself, it was decent, but I thought like the final few episodes needed a bit more time than they actually got to develop some of the plotlines, so it felt kinda rushed. For a goofy and light hearted show though, it was perfectly fine.
Art: 8/10
Muteking is primarily an anime that aims to capture the feeling of a decade past, and it does so in the most hyperbolic way possible. The city of Neo-San Francisco is colorful and vibrant, the CGI scenes don't feel jarring and you will find yourself cheering each time a certain sequence is shown on the screen in a large part of the anime. Is the artstyle purposely exaggerated? Yes, and I liked it a lot.
Sound: 10/10
The soundtrack to Muteking is full of bangers, starting from the opening to the original 1980 anime to the insert songs of one of the characters in the show and even an instrumental to one of the most famous city pop songs of all time, it manages to mix in the 80s nostalgia with modernity really well.
Characters: 7/10
Muteking has quite a large cast of characters, and both of the main characters and several of the secondary characters receive a surprising amount of attention. While remembering that this show is a remake of a kids' show, it's no surprise that these are still simple and not complex ones. The best character in my opinion is a certain suave mystery man, who really shone in parts of the anime.
Enjoyment: 7,5/10
Muteking is a very fun show that doesn't take itself seriously and it knows well what it's aiming for. I found myself excited for every new episode, and despite the enthusiasm being lessened by the final few episodes, it was a very enjoyable anime to watch and a good surprise return of an old school director to making new shows.
Overall: 7,5/10
Despite its current score being on the low side, you will likely enjoy Muteking if you don't mind it being cheesy like a 70s super robo mecha show.

Eight years after the events of 0079's One Year War, conflict has broken out again in the solar system and Gundam's Universal Century continues.
Story: 10/10
The story is by far the best part of Zeta Gundam. Highly political in nature, Zeta Gundam is a good depiction of a conflict breaking out over ideological differences, the lust for power and the remainders of a defeated ideology and their supporters. Tomino lives up to his reputation and wrote a story in his signature style, in which plot armor is relatively uncommon, cynicism (influenced by his fragile mental health at the time) prevails and the very nature of the
...
military conflict drives people both well- and worse-adjusted into misery. The story also increases in quality in the second half of the anime, but the first half also very good. The ending... is a stroke of brilliance by Tomino and will leave you in awe.
Art: 7/10
Zeta Gundam is a typical mid-80s mecha anime. It's pleasant to look at and the character designs are good. However, it's mostly unremarkable and certainly no Mamoru Oshii movie when it comes to visuals.
Sound: 8/10
The soundtrack is good and listening to it as a standalone is rather enjoyable. In my personal opinion, the second Opening theme and "Fleet Battle" stand out from the soundtrack.
Characters: 7/10
Zeta Gundam has some very complex and interesting characters whose arcs extend across multiple Universal Century shows, OVAs and even movies. Yet Tomino's infamous weakness in writing character interactions is also prevalent through the series. Despite that, there are some characters that I really enjoy, and others that I didn't really care about. Nevertheless, some of the fan-favorite most-disliked, have actually surprisingly good character arcs.
Enjoyment: 9/10
Zeta Gundam is a classic of the mecha genre, but I only recommend watching it after having seen the original 1979 anime or the movie trilogy from the early 80s. Nevertheless, the political intrigue, the interpersonal drama, the kill em' all (probably not all) approach of Tomino, the mecha action and the fantastic ending make Zeta Gundam a very enjoyable series. Beware of spoilery previews though.
Overall: 9/10
It's a very good anime, and if you enjoy the Gundam Universal Century, you will also enjoy Zeta.

Ah, a 1979 Shojo anime? I have to admit, I was skeptical, but I ended up enjoying this one a lot.
Story: 10/10
The story is set in the final days of the French Monarchy, and it tells of political drama, interpersonal drama and petty drama that, as every person even vaguely familiar with the fate of the historical Bourbon Kingdom of France, ends up culminating in a way rather unfavorable for the ruling class. Focusing on how contemporary society changed, and how the main characters interacted with it and each other, it's a masterpiece of storytelling.
Art: 9/10
This anime is very pretty, even despite it being made
...
in the 1970s and an adaptation of a somewhat artistically bare-bones manga. Despite that, it was very enjoyable to watch and had an undeniable charm to it.
Sound: 9/10
It's from 1979. The music is very good and evokes the feel of late feudal France. The Opening and Ending themes are classics that you most likely will enjoy regardless of musical taste. iirc there's a couple of disco inspired songs in the soundtrack, which make the late 70s charm of this anime even greater.
Characters: 9/10
This series has so many iconic characters that you will love and love to hate, starting from the main characters. Sadly, a scene late in the anime brutally murders one of the characters, who until then was one of my favorites. Unfortunate, and really the only reason why this anime isn't on my Favorites' list.
Enjoyment: 10/10
This anime is a masterpiece. I loved every second of it (except for one scene late in the anime), and was left yearning for more by the time the last episode ended. The music is great, the art is great, the characters are great and without the before-mentioned scene, which ruined the enjoyment of a plot element for me, it would have without a doubt have been my personal favorite anime of all time.
Overall: 9/10
Even if you don't watch old anime, watch the Rose of Versailles. You won't regret it.
Maybe check out the content warnings, as the anime can get heavy at times. And if a scene late in the anime will make you feel empty inside, keep watching. It maintains a consistently extremely high quality despite that.

As someone who is a big Star Trek fan, something just clicked with me when I started watching the Irresponsible Captain Tylor, and by the end of the series it had become one of my favorite animes ever. Some friends have told me that Musekinin Galaxy☆Tylor was awful. They were right.
Story: 1/10
The story is basically a flanderization of the 1993 anime's plot, with Tylor, "Yamamoto" and Azalyn going on a journey.
Art: 2/10
The art is pretty standard modern anime, but Tylor and Azalyn look really bad and the new character looks somewhat out of place but doesn't reach the ridiculous appearance of say Shia Has in
...
the original 1993 anime. Yet there is random sexualizatiion, and plenty of it.
Sound: 1/10
The soundtrack sounds more fitting to something like Non Non Biyori rather than something from the Tylor series.
Characters: 1/10
Terrible. Like I said before, flanderization everywhere.
Enjoyment: 1/10
This anime feels like a spit to the face to any fans of the 1993 original, and even if you never watched that one, you probably won't enjoy it. One moment did make me smile though, even though it was in a completely nonsensical context.
Overall: 1/10
Waste of time, despite it being only 3 minutes per episode. Also there's some random homophobia in the anime? Wtf?

Having watched the anime shoot up the anticipation ranking pre-season, and having seen the trailer which portrayed pretty-much bullying, I talked about it with some friends online.
One of them told me that the story does indeed get better, which made me curious enough about "Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san" to read some of the manga.
He was right. It indeed it did get better.
Story: 2/10 (Chapters 1-10 ish) 4/10 (Chapters 10-39 ish) 7/10
The story begins in the worst way possible, with Nagatoro "messing" with her Senpai in a rather mean-spirited way that outright crosses into sexual harassment at times. Yikes. However, the story does eventually pick up, and
...
starts relying more on the relationship between Nagatoro and Hachiouji instead of perverted humor. The turning point of the story is around the current mid-point, Chapter 40. The Manga becomes less episodic and a new character is introduced. The horny humor never really goes away, but the story diversifies and the second half of the manga has some really adorable moments between the main characters. As of the time I'm writing this, it is likely that the ending or a major moment is approaching, and the setup is good.
Art: 8/10
The art was always a strong point of the manga, and the main reason why is Nagatoro. She steals the show through her amazing facial expressions, wacky movements and the adorable aura she has in the later chapters of the manga. There is nothing to complain about in the rest of the artstyle.
Characters: 6/10
As can be expected, the story focuses on Nagatoro and Hachiouji. Hachiouji starts off with a vibe about him as if he spent too much time on Reddit, but becomes a pretty decent character later on. Nagatoro's friends are pretty static characters. However, it is Nagatoro herself to steal the show. Brash, loud, extremely annoying, mean... adorable, protective? All of those can be used to describe her. Much like MC, I disliked her at the beginning but grew on me with each chapter.
Enjoyment: 7/10
The manga is a real page-turner, especially after the first few chapters. The chapters are short, but enjoyable. If not for the very questionable beginning, this would have been a very good manga to read.
Overall: 7/10
