This is HBO's 'Velma'; new characters wearing the skin of familiar ones. There isn't a single change that's been justified or gone in a direction that's led to a better show.

After every decision a character in this show makes, I'm just sitting back, going, "why?" In episode 1:

Why was Vash hanging upside down, presumably for hours, when he proves that he could've escaped the rope without issue in the very next scene? Why did a MILITARY POLICEMAN try to blow up a freaking town out of nowhere? He was in the damn town and would've died, too! Why did the policeman even accept ... an old drunk's challenge to duel a detained criminal with an outrageously high bounty?

In episode 2:

We learn that Knives, Vash's twin brother who looks exactly like him, is stealing PLANTS, generators considered the most valuable sources of power on the planet. Knives' plundering is blamed on Vash, because, again, they look exactly alike. You probably know where I'm going with this, but I'll spell it out... WHY DOESN'T VASH CHANGE HIS DAMN APPEARANCE?! GROW A BEARD? LOSE THE TRENDY-ASS HAIRDO? WEAR A MASK? WHY DOES THE WHOLE TOWN BELIEVE THAT VASH ISN'T THIS PLANT-STEALING GUY WHO PURPORTEDLY LOOKS JUST LIKE HIM WHEN VASH HAS SUCH EXTENSIVE KNOWLEDGE OF PLANTS?? IN THE PREVIOUS EPISODE, THE BARSMAID STOOD BY AS THE POLICE DETAINED VASH AND OFFERED THE TOWN THE FULL AMOUNT OF HIS BOUNTY IN EXCHANGE FOR THEIR COOPERATION. SHE LOOKS CONFLICTED FOR ABOUT FOUR SECONDS BECAUSE THE TOWN'S PLANT IS FAILING, AND VASH'S BOUNTY WOULD COVER THE COST FOR A NEW ONE, BUT ULTIMATELY DOESN'T SPEAK OUT AGAINST THE DUEL THAT WOULD WIND UP FREEING VASH. NOW, IN THIS EPISODE, THE TOWN GOES AFTER VASH BECAUSE SHE CHANGED HER MIND, AND BY THE END OF THE EPISODE, SHE CHANGES IT AGAIN. THE PLANT IS STILL FAILING, AND THERE'S NO SOLUTION, SO THE SHOW STRETCHES ONE CONFLICTED LOOK INTO AN ENTIRE EPISODE DEDICATED TO A PLOT THREAD THAT GOES NOWHERE!

I'm not pointing out the rest of the baffling choices characters make in this episode or the others, but it happens in every. Single. One.

This show is the biggest insult to a series as distinct as Trigun, in that it's the safest, most palatable anime I've tried to watch in a long time. You boneheads praising this because the show is an instance of anime CGI not looking laughably bad is why people who don't watch anime think that all anime has horrendous writing.

The original Trigun anime is a classic. Trigun: Badlands Rumble is an incredible movie. This is a polished turd.

The dub is fun, which makes this bearable. Otherwise, it’s yet another by-the-numbers indecisive love triangle series where the cute character designs grab your attention, and your curiosity takes that baton as far as your boredom allows.

I’m required to add more fluff to post this, so... watch Summertime Render (sub). Watch Isekai Ojisan (sub). Watch Lycoris Recoil (sub). Those are the only legitimately good shows airing right now.

I’m still trapped by the minimum word limit… Oh, Blood-C (dub) isn’t bad. I was trying to scout good shows with a badass female protagonist to recommend to my sister, and while the antagonist is hiding like Chopper ... from the very beginning, the whole reveal still managed to catch me off guard. The sequel movie was cheeks, though. The random kiss, the new characters that someone coming from the anime cares nothing about (hate when anime movies add trifles to evoke a sense of things being on a bigger scale), the old characters acting like entirely different characters, the reused trick from the show, the other girl (being ambiguous and spoiler-free) appears once and becomes the pro-genocide governor, and the ultimate fate of the antagonist… it was all so disappointing.

If I haven’t hit the word limit yet, I’m about to roast Blood+ next, which is rated higher than Blood-C by people who presumably like stories in which an unhinged vampire harlot rapes a teenage boy, and a damsel in distress poses as a hero, getting saved and stripped every few episodes by creepy dudes who want to impale her with their stakes when they aren’t calling her sister their “mother” (who they poked their heads into)
