In my honest opinion, I have no goddamn idea why people hype themselves up so much all the time. Not a single anime I have ever seen has liven up to the hype, because thats what hype is and how this generally works. If your told that you will be taking ... lessons, you will hype it up, thinking how cool it will be and it wont live up to that. ALWAYS. Atleast in my experience and what i heard. No matter how cool the concept or certain things sound, its extremely unlikely that everything will be "perfect". My expectations were literally, it will be ... a action shonen and thats it, I didnt think more of it, maybe expecting a cool story, with cool story hooks, or something along those lines... and I was positively impressed by the show, it felt really new to me, even though its so similar to different anime, I believe it to be a lot better than the most similar show I know, which would be jujutsu kaisen, in being special, unique and (lets be real here) cool af in this genre, of course the anime isnt over by now, but I feel like the vibe of most people going for the lower numbers is just about being hyped about it that much. If it released without any pretext and people randomly found it somewhere (like netflix), I think the reviews wouldn't go towards both extremes so much and would have a more positive view at it, for what it really is. An anime about chainsaws and a man, doing chainsaw things.
tldr: hype=bad; show is very good, but people expect shonen to be reinvented on a daily basis.
