TL;DR: As a Manga reader, expected something like HS DxD, but got normie Harem plot with slow pacing. Animators not going full Degenerate level like other Ecchi shows do, and hence the overall experience is bad. Not recommended.
Okay, so I am a Manga reader, and I am reading this piece of art when there were only 15 chapters out, so yea, I am one of the OGs when it comes to the story and I know everything about the characters and what the story is about, so the whole anime is a huge L for me.
I was really thinking that this will be
...
the next HS DxD or at least a tough contender, but it lost to a Magical Girl Parody and A basic Harem Isekai featuring Rings in Ecchi aspects.
Unnecessary censoring, no "Physics" like DxD/HS of the Dead and lewd scenes are glossed over. Pacing is also slow, when taking in the fact that S1 only has 12 episodes, aka 1 cour. We are already at episode 6 and we still don't have our top Girls of the story in with the MC, and I don't think my 2nd personal favourite (the Commander in Chief) will be in the Harem by the end of the season...
Well whatever, I had way, way more expectation, and it is sad that it was not met, Animation and Art is great, but just something is missing which DxD, To Love Ru and MahoAko has, I can't exactly pin point what... Maybe it's not degenerate enough, though Manga is recommended.

Well, Tsukimichi is way underrated, I mean it's hell of a good show, and it should be in upper tier of Isekai Rankings, I would even give it a solid A Tier, if Mushoku or Konosuba is S Tier.
Especially great because this season will have 25 episodes, and there will be a lot of development with our Ugly B****** getting students who will be little Ugly B****** like him, jk jk, I mean they will be super strong too ig.
JC Staff is doing a fine work, not something over the top animation, but everything is right in its place, and it reflects the
...
whole show, nothing mind blowing, nothing "too great", just a good and a solid show.

TL;DR: Wasted Premise, Disability used just to attract viewers, lack of research from the author's side, cheap/old Shoujo plot with Blue Eyed ML and normie Childhood Friend/Loser guy, boring MC who is 19 but acts like a teenager.
Well, I guess the problem with me was that I expected too much from the show after reading the synopsis. I thought that this is going to be like "A Silent Voice" but a mature version (as the protagonists are college students), but what I got was an adult girl acting like a 11 year old who got her first crush.
Well where do we start, let's go
...
sequentially. First thing that was weird was that she lip synced everyone around her, and that's totally dumb. It feels like the author never met any deaf person before/nor researched about it, because deaf people don't read lips, especially in a pronounciation based language like Japanese. Impossible to make difference in syllables (like a, ha, na, ta, sa, ka, ra, etc etc) with just reading the lips, that too from meters away.
Second thing was the ML, read a lot of Shoujo Manhwa and White Hair Blue Eyed ML is as common as Black Hair Black Eyed Isekai Protagonist, I mean at least Gojo has Rizz in him. The ML here is straight up weirdo, "Let me come into your world", sir, this is Wendy's. Author thought it would look sexy, but no, it's creepy because he met her second time in their life (at least from her perspective), and moreover she is deaf, it's like that "Hello Human Resources?" meme.
Third thing is that the MC faces little or no problem with her being deaf, Japanese society is openly condescending for disabled people and it's shown clearly in other shows (like Josee, the Tiger and the Fish). Here disability is used as a plot point instead of a character trait. Like deaf people have issues in their life, please show that to us.
Rest, will not talk about the childhood friend, that is too much of a cliche to even mention. Need a loser in the story to make the main couple shine more, oldest Shoujo concept since it's inception. Not an ounce of good storytelling, sad because there are many other Shoujo stories which are far better than this but are never adapted.
Also, one of the big issue is that she's an adult but she is shown like a teenager. If the whole premise was set in middle school, I would have rated it 8/10 instead of 2/10 because I would buy the lack of character she has because she is supposed to be a kid. Just like we appreciate "A Girl I like Forgets Her Glasses" or "Dangers in My Heart", because the MCs are 13-14 year old and their cringe thoughts actually complement their age and their surroundings. When I see a college setup, I will take the maturity for granted because 19 means you are already an adult, Yamada Level 999 or Uzaki Chan Asobitai reflects that perfectly. The sheer amount of lack of understanding and her view of the world is like she came onto the world last month and it's her first time for everything. It's just sad at this point, and then everyone say Isekai is for escapism...

I gave 10/10 to this anime not only to raise the overall score, but because it deserves it.
If you read the comments, the response is highly mixed, with people giving it 4-5 or 9-10, I will give you reasons this show should get full score.
The good aspects are Art and Sound, well this is a product of KyoAni so I will skip this part as we all know what they are capable of, the bad aspects, which I will talk about, is mainly Haruhi and the characters and the plot.
Let me be clear, I have watched this show first in normal order, then in broadcast
...
order, and I liked the broadcast order more (ofc), but again, I really don't get why story is boring for some people, in any order to speak of. The story is one of the more intricate ones, I mean it's on par with Monogatari Series, which is like hell of storytelling. The weirdness, quirky-ness as well as unpredictable outcomes of whatever the hell is happening in the show. The broadcast order make it more spicy, and more weird, interesting too, but then people say it's boring and predictable??? Have they even watched it?
Second reason they give is Character tropes and cliche scenes. Well Haruhi was made in 2006 and using character tropes was not overused at that time, it was the normal thing, but the point of the series is to not develop the characters. Yuki got a lot of it in the later chapters, but yea, others don't. But again, we don't need character development, like Konosuba, the current character we have is enough, as the motive is to save the world while hearing Kyon's b*tching about it, not see Mikuru growing from a soft to idk what, Tanya the Evil? It's all right, they struggle to take care of Haruhi and save the world while shit happens among themselves.
Talking about character, I believe people are annoyed with Haruhi, well in the infamous violent episode, it's understandable why she suddenly became annoying if you look at the broadcast order, in normal order even I felt weird with both Kyon's and Haruhi's reaction. Haruhi, actually doesn't grow much, even in the Manga, but that is fine as again the show is not about that, it's the story of Aliens, Time Travellers and ESPers. Again, people who just watches it and talk shit about it, haven't seen episodes and saw small details, for instance the warping in the Island Episode where Haruhi supposedly changed reality when she figured that Kyon maybe the culprit.
At last, I will include Disappearance Movie in this Anime as it was supposed to be together with this series, which single handedly gives the series 10/10 score. After watching the whole 28 (-6 episodes), the movie act as a perfect closure to 2 important characters, which is amazing. The character development complaints then vanishes as we get to see 2 main characters grow. Haruhi was left to create nuisance and that's the point of whole show, let Haruhi be a b*tch and hear about Kyon's b*thing while the whole world goes into chaos.

As a Haruhi Suzumiya fan, I saw this Spin Off and sat through 16 episodes of Hell.. Well, Actually 10 episodes of Hell, after which we got what we came for.
Thing is, you will only watch this Anime if you are a Haruhi watcher, which is fine enough, but the problem was that we were expecting a lot different than what we got.
First was the animation change, I mean ofc we will not get excellent quality like KyoAni, but the animation really stuck with me in a bad way, the voice artists were same so it was ok, but Kyon's face was butchered by making
...
it plain. Yuki looked different (will talk about it later) and only Koizumi, Haruhi and Mikuru had same look.
But apart from animation, main problem was the story, I have read the Manga too, and the story seriously sucks a lot in the first arc. I get that the writer is literally not a Romance type guy as the romance grandly sucks in comparison to the master piece of the weirdness that follows in 2nd arc.
Talking about Yuki herself, they destroyed her with making her meek and awkward, if they followed and made Yuki more like the Yuki we know, it would be best. I mean I undy they made the new one meek and silent, but the silent Yuki in Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya was far better than this one. Another thing is the Perspective change from Kyon's to Yuki/Free one, we don't get Kyon's or Yuki's inner monologue and that's why most of the time it feels empty.
Biggest problem is the romance of this Anime, the current Yuki is so boring that ultimately we ship Haruhi and Kyon unilaterally as well, their chemistry still hits at next level. Yuki's relationship is forced upon us and Kyon, best example is Valentine's pre-day episode and valentine's episode. Then when the shit happens, then the relationship is far, way far better than Haruhi X Kyon, I mean we all fantasied Yuki and Kyon's relationship. The rating increased from 4-5 to 8 for me after the actual Disappearance of Nagato Yuki.... Why they waited so long?
If they had Yuki's character unchanged and then used Kyon to change her; or if they had total 12 episodes with turning point in ep 7, then this Anime would be cult classic and got 10/10 instead of 6/10.... Again, it's more like story's fault but at the end, an average watcher will not love this, we wanted Yuki Nagato soft, cold version, not Onodera Kosaki light version....
At the end, I would ask you to watch first 2 episodes, then from episode 11 till the end,

It will be a short review with a bit of SPOILERs, so you have been warned...
I will ask you to watch this Anime only if you have watched The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, as otherwise you will not get what the hell is happening. For me, it's one of the best post Anime movie, which actually brought a big part into closure, the feelings of MC, Kyon, as well as the second most important character in the show, Yuki Nagato. It's always Yuki who has to do the most work, let it be the 7 days arc or other arcs, and we also wonder does
...
she really feel anything, this movie answers those questions. Watching Disappearance of Nagato Yuki is best, as it takes us into the world where Kyon decided to let it be, but it's for another time.
Apart from story, everything else is great too. The Animation, Intensity, Pacing, Camera Angles, Sound, everything was perfectly balanced, and we have to give that to Kyoto Animation as this was made in 2012. I also liked the ending song, which showed the inner feelings of Yuki, and ofc the last scene where she was shyly hiding her smile, that's like a perfect character arc.
That's all, surely enjoy this masterpiece.
