I must have watched this movie over 20 times with my family over the course of 15 years. Its world is full of magic, with creatures of incredible colors and shapes. It fills you with intrigue and curiosity about all the life that inhabits our planet and remains unknown to us, making you hope it’s as beautiful and magical as the ones in this marvelous fantasy world. The plot is captivating, and the situations that unfold at times leave you speechless, gripping the edge of your seat with nerves, or smiling from ear to ear with happiness. The characters are charismatic and endearing, and to

top it all off, it has an incredible soundtrack with an ending song that I still remember word for word to this day. Without a doubt, it’s a masterpiece and deserves a 10/10.
I can recommend it to anyone, of any age, and with any taste. It’s a movie that never fails and will always have a place in my heart.
The review ends here. Now, some context as to why it’s a 10 (a bit of my life story):
This movie brings back so many memories. Back in 2008, I used to go on vacation with my family to a small house we owned in a remote village in the middle of nowhere. It was very cold, and next to the place where we bought firewood to heat the house, there was a small shop that sold kitchen items, books, and also rented movies. They didn’t have many, and only a few worked without freezing or skipping. Since cable TV didn’t reach that area, the only entertainment we had were those rented movies, which we watched on our old, square, tube television. To keep it short, they always recommended I rent Ponyo. At the time, I had only seen Dragon Ball, Naruto, and a few other anime shows on TV, so I gave it a try and watched it with my family. Not just once, but many times during those cold vacations.
The years went by, I grew up, and I ended up watching a lot of anime (way too much anime). But this movie always held a special place in my heart. This year, while reminiscing about it, we all got together to watch it again. Even though I’m no longer the same person I was 10 or 15 years ago, I still enjoy this movie in the same way. The fact that people of such different ages, who have changed so much over the years, can still connect through this movie is both wonderful and surprising to me. The work done on this film is truly incredible.
