Shuumatsu no Walküre is fairly fade combat style anime (I didn't read the manga). It's brutal and gore like Baki and Kengan Ashura.
If the combat is enjoyable, it tends to just drag on for no reason.
You can summarize all of the combat like that :
1) I'm strong, he going to lose
2) Oh he's losing
3) Oh nope he was just training and getting ready
4) both have secret card during the fight
5) both end up on threshold between life and death and one dies
...
Sometimes you have to wait half an episode to see a punch. It's slow and fade. It needs serious cuts or rearranging.
And there's no "oh, this one is better" or "no way he is going to win". They always find a secret technique to just change the course of the combat to their desire. It's annoying, especially with Shiva's fight ... this one is ridiculous on how the combat scenario is biased.
For comparison in Baki you can have 2 episode long fight, or a supposed long fight, which doesn't happen because one is clearly far better and just smash the other into pieces.
7 out of 10 is a good score, given all the problems of this anime.

TL;DR :
If used to watch anime and you seek for excellent ones, you should pass. This is a very classic anime with nothing spectacular.
Every told me : you should watch this Anime, it's great, it's so cool you going to love it. I didn't ask because I generally don't in case I badly interpret things or get a false idea (like, try to describe One Punch Man, it doesn't sounds interesting).
So I got into watching this, since I'm good public an able to watch a wide range of Anime.
Art : 9
One thing you cannot remove to this anime is it's graphics. It's a pretty well
...
mixed kind of art, with drawing, CGI and "hand-drawn" CGI (meaning it's used to add complex drawings). The style is quite unique, and far from classic CGI usage, like in Berserk or Overlorld for example.
Secondly, combat scene are excellent and really well directed. You will find detailed sword combat here (better than SNK).
Lastly, I remove 1 point because character expression (of some) are very ... short. You will understand while seing it.
Story : 9
The story is well driven, and there's no time for small talk. A lot is going on during these 26 episodes. Some franchise would have made last 3 times longer. However, this is a quite classic story, with a few twists and specificity, but somehow very common.
Some mystery are still hidden but you can guess them very easily !
Characters : 3
Holly cow. I haven't seen such bad character development in a long time. Basically, in 26 episodes, only Tanjiro and Nezuko got a "more than 5 minutes" character story. They (the others) have no personality, no background that wouldn't fit in a 15 words sentence. They don't talk to each other, it's mainly off voice.
Every character is thrown at your face, at a very high pace. It's disturbing really.
Two of them are really awful, sadly they are main characters.
Sound / Music : 5
Not good / Not bad. Really, nothing to say here.
Enjoyment : 7
Even if side characters are execrable and annoying, the story is focusing on Tanjiro, which get the anime back on track so you want to know the story goes. Sadly, given those characters and the poor base story, it's never going to be memorable.
Overall : 7
It has been a good experience since I'm good public. It lacks so much in the story and characters that it won't be remembered for sure. The author tried to add a lot of humor but really, even a 5yo kid wouldn't like it. It's horrific and it can last entire minutes.
During these moments you wish not to have ears and eyes.

EDIT : For those saying that art is a masterpiece, let have some fun facts for you.
Ok, technically, Akira is the top notch of anime, with every scene very dynamic. But that's it, it's only technical. Why, you should ask ?
Firstly, nearly nobody saw it in 1988 (or 1989 depending on the country) in a theater !! So you were not here for the big show. Don't brag about something you never experienced.
Secondly, if you bought your VHS before 1995 (it was out in 1991), you probably watched it on a cathodic screen ! Woaw *clap* *clap* ; what a beautiful show with 380+ colors
...
on a 32 inches CRT screen where all colors are blurred (due to the technology) and having 480p maximum !
Then, if you pick the remaster lately and watched it on a Bluray, then, please don't compare the show with 1980's anime quality but with actual ones.
Sure, in 1988, in theater, it was awesome. But we aren't in 1988 anymore, this argument doesn't stand ; there's no "Technique" mark, just a "Art" one. How it was made doesn't change how it is today.
I love technical stuff too, and I especially love Hardware, but that's not the point here and now.
----- End of this edit for those claiming it's a masterpiece of art. This *is* not ; this *was*.
This review is detached from how I scored the manga. And I would have rated it the same way if I haven't read the manga.
As for a fact I watched both Ghost in the shell, both series and anime (and film), and clearly this ... thing isn't worth your time. I think 3 a good overall mark given that I lost 2h of my time for a dreadful experience.
Story : 1
The story lies in the first few seconds of the anime : There was an explosion in Tokyo, which destroyed the city, and a new one was born out of it, and WW III is over. We are in 2019.
Then, nothing. No more story. Just a curious clog of character in successive events in an inexplicable chaos ; sorry they aren't characters, they are a name combined with a face, they don't have a background, a history, nothing (except for Tetsuo). In a 2h time, you have enough time to reproduce the original story. They should have try another entire approach.
Nothing makes sense, it's just violence, blood, sexual assault, psychedelic delirium, etc. Character barely have names for those not knowing them.
And it's taken from an objective point of view. I you read the manga, it's a shame and doesn't deserve to be written about.
Art : 6
It's not state of the art, except from some parts in the end. Lights are blurry points, drawing is fairly rude. Only the end and the very beginning are really well drawn.
Sure, it's visually moving everywhere, and that's stunning, but there's no clear use of this technique.
Sound : 6
Nothing to say about it, no soundtrack. Japanese voice are ... strange. Really I don't recall anything striking in the soundtrack.
Character : 2
As stated before there's no characters, just names (a few) and faces. They don't have any personality (maybe Kaneda is imbued of himself and Tetsuo wants to take his revenge on life). Tetsuo is basically the only character here.
Kei, Kai (not mentioned in the film), Ryu, the colonel, Miyako (not mentioned either) are just obliterated.
Enjoyment : 2
That wasn't enjoyment at all. None of this.
It was a nightmare to watch and won't watch it again. You can't find any fun since there is neither a story nor characters nor a decent soundtrack, something to rely on.
That's a supermassive black-hole of joy : it attracts all joy inside of you and it disappear.
Overall : 3
I'm very kind since it touches a very complicated story with very complex character that builds up over time. I think that instead of trying to adapt a story that can't fit into a 2h movie, they should have done an anime or do nothing at all.
I give them credit for at least trying, but it ended up nowhere creating a parallel story. Even Otomo didn't liked it.
Fullmetal Alchemist was released early (after tome 8 if I remember correctly) and got a parallel story, which I don't like that much, but at least characters are developed, there's a story, different and with some loopholes, but still it exists. And the OST is one of the best of all anime (probably with Darker than Black) with a pretty neat animation.
Akira in this version is the worst that can happen to a successful story and if you read the manga, you will probably cut the movie after 10 or 15 minutes of barbaric butchery. I personnaly think this is a bad idea to try to adapt it in a movie due to its age. Maybe in an anime, but not in a movie.

I'm doing a review on this Part 2, not on the whole anime, or the manga (which I read too).
Stop rating all Arcs for the whole Anime. The start was good, but be realistic, some other parts were less interesting.
In this Arc, this is the conclusion of the story, leading the way to "The end" where in an 1 movie the series will conclude what the manga tells us.
If Part 1 was great due to heavy action and plot mysteries, this part is... empty.
Story : 3 (I'm gentle)
The story is poor, even absent. Some episode could be skipped, it wouldn't change a thing.
...
There's is 3 parts in it :
- The first part with action in it : it's dragged overs numerous episodes for nothing. Eren is just yelling in the void (there's no context in the anime), and suddenly after the action, you end up in the second part
- The second part is just small talk like "I'm right." "No, I'm right, you're wrong" "No, it's me". Useless episodes, but you must follow it to end up in the last scenes.
- The third part is actually great, but too damn short (3 episodes IIRC, even 2 ?). Action based, no fillers, what SNK was, and should be.
The last scenes are preparation for the end of the story, which needs context because it's atrocious, but, that's not relevant here.
Art/Sound : 9
As usual, this is very enjoyable to see this manga in motion, given the combat style with sword. I do not want to use a 10 since they still uses the original author way to draw faces, which is horrible.
Seriously the manga is badly drawn, let's be realistic.
Character : 2
They just majestically all die at random times. Some others which were top characters, are absent or faded (like really, you just want them to die so its less embarrassing). They are becoming bipolar or psychos.
Enjoyment : 8
I'll keep very good since it's still a good show to enjoy if you don't care about the story (which you do when you know the end).
Overall : 5
Average. Really. Not really something that will mark my memory. The first 5 episodes or so are terrible, and if you give more than a 7, you either binge watched it, or you were texting or doing something else. Seeing this emptiness and uselessness of most the episode (7 out of 12), you'd be sad for this good anime which, if you look back before "The final season", deserve a good 9 or 10 !
It's really sad to see an anime torn apart because of production requirements (splitting into two parts).
It would have been less rushed in Part 1 and more balanced in the Part 2.
But guess what : cash's first !

I won't tell anything about the content of this manga, because telling even what it is about is giving your own relation to this story.
And this where the magic lies here : not a single person will understand it the same way and find some enlightenment about "things" as an other. Your life is your own, and so does the image of yours is reflected by this manga.
Don't try to understand how does specific things work because there's no explanation, just try to listen to a story and grab what you can for yourself.
For me it was a wonderful experience that I recommend. Some will
...
find it boring because they don't find themselves in any part of the story. Good for them. Or not.
Anyway, go for it, it's a must to read (3 tomes, you will not die or get poor).

This review doesn't contains spoilers, just merely an evaluation of how it ends. Which is the key.
I'm not reviewing this manga only for it's ending, which would have led to nearly 0, but the overall experience.
But I think you should read it, it's still worth it despite the end. If you already watched the anime, not so much. The only difference lies in the first half the story, and sword-combat are just horrible compared to the anime.
Story : 7
For those watching the anime, the story in the manga isn't told the same way, and I think the manga approach is really good, since it doesn't
...
goes through a straight path until the end.
Basically the story starts 5 years after the "event", you don't really know about, and you follow Eren Jäger and his friends along the road.
During the manga, flashback (short ones) are here to give context, or tell why the story is going the way it is.
It's not a mere subterfuge to hide lack in the scenario, it is just build like this, and it's pretty enjoyable.
Most of long scenes of training in the anime just lasts 3 or 4 pages. Some just doesn't exists at all because the anime is entirely linear.
Why 7 ? It's a 10, minus the last 6 tomes which are worse a deep 0.
Because after a certain point, the story, for no reason at all, really go sideways. This could have ended differently, even "not ending", but no.
What did he does ? Take the worst possible idea and confuse everyone, and ruins everything. The anime is worse since it's skipping the attempts of understanding what's happening.
I hope they will chose another end for the anime. It has been done by the past, I hope it will be for this one.
Art : 3 but I could go less
Damn my eyes. I probably lost vision reading this. He may good for making a base story, but his art is worthless. I'm reading the Colossal Edition (A4 format), and still, it's horrible. He barely can draw a face, only building and stuff.
Combat scene are just awful, especially around trees. It's just a mess. Hopefully, the anime was great on this part and gave life to this part.
Character : 7
Nothing special to say here, characters are well developed, different from each other and without any urges to shout all the time.
Same reason why it's not a more : the last 6 tomes ; characters are messed up and become a bunch of misfits.
Enjoyment : 7
As stated before, the story is really good until a certain point, there's no cliffhanger to ruin the experience, it build itself really good, and uncover at a generous rate some questioning you have since the begining.
The end ruined the enjoyment ...
Overall : 6
I will not be as harsh as my fellows, because it's not about only the end and how it taste in the end.
Sure with this manga you stay on a bitter end. But the journey was really good, despite combat (a somewhat interesting part of the manga) which is ravaged by the author lack of competence in drawing. I cannot undermine the work accomplished here and just give a 3 because I had a bad cofee to end my restaurant experience.
Sadly the art doesn't really follow and only the story remains, and once you understood it, it's over. No discovery left, no good art to see again. Given how combats are drawn, I wouldn't read other sidestories which exists like "before the fall" or Livaï stories. Half of the interest is combat (you are follow military people with swords !!!!), so I'm really not going to "read" that. Watch it if it goes to another anime, but not read.

First thing : This anime doesn't have a so called "story". It's not a bad thing sometimes, and people trying to review this like it has a story won't get it right.
You can like it or not, but in my opinion it's not a lack of scenario in the story.
Story : N/A
I'm repeating myself here : there's no story here. It start with a simple introduction : Komi is a very beautiful girl, but she's terrified of social interactions.
But she want to make friends !
Each episode consists of 2 mini-story, mini-slice of life of a young girl and her classmates. As simple as this.
Art :
...
9
Art is really great. It successfully express Komi's distress without hearing her screaming loudly like in every anime !
Sound : 10
They clearly mastered this part. Opening theme is just tears of joy inside a song (it's really great). Sounds of this anime are great, and it's very important because Komi don't speak. Voices are really great, not only screaming girls and boys trying to get your attention by getting louder and louder. A deep effort is made here.
Characters : 9
Many character are developed, not only Komi. I won't develop more since it's the goal of this anime : discover characters thinking and taste.
Enjoyment : 10 (I would put a 11)
Sincerely it's on top three anime list (the manga wasn't published in my country/language but I think it will be one day) ; I would rate it 11 if I could.
I was really happy each week to see an episode.
Overall : 10 is my final score even if I don't like giving 10
Making a review of this anime without killing the discovery is clearly impossible. It's about truly sincere slices of life, you will enjoy it, whether or not you find yourself in her situation at some point. It's really comforting and you'll discover a true gem here.

TL;DR : "They got us in the first half, I'm not gonna lie"
I don't write many reviews but I think I need for this one, which is in some ways good, and horrible at some others.
Story : 5
The plot of the first episode is quite interesting. But very soon, you realize that's not what you will get.
It's like : "Hey, you will have a BMW"
What you get : "This is a Rolex"
...
Both are great (relatively), at least you cannot complain. But you were about to have a car, not a watch. It may be a good watch, but you signed up for a car.
This is what SAO is about : not giving what you expect.
If you were to watch a romantic teenage anime centered on a lonely boy, it more of a 7 to 8 than a 5 or less. This review is for what it was announced, not what what it is. And I surely didn't want to see that kind of Anime.
So it's a 5 for the story, given they tried to do a 2 part story, but it was rushed, because all the episodes were about that the main character discover he can have feelings, and not related to the story. If they had more episodes, they could have done something deeper, for both public : those here for the initial story, and those who stayed for the "teenage crisis resolution" kind of anime.
It's watchable, but I won't ever watch another anime of this series.
Art : 7
It's fairly good for the age of the anime. I've seen fairly worse. The only point is that they had the technique but the story didn't gave them something to put their art on. It's like having premium pencil, and having no canvas to write on.
Sound : 4
Yeah, it follows some basic stuff supposed to be there, but nothing noticeable.
Character : 3 (one very little spoiler you'll discover on episode 1 or 2)
Mhhhh, how to put it ? There's as much complexity in characters that there is hair on Saitama's head. You have new characters entering the anime and disappearing 10 minutes after and forever. It's nearly pointless. Just focus on 2 characters basically, and that's it.
And about Suguha. Yeah. Frack, what a horrible concept they found ... Why his cousin ! It could have an adoption with no family link and with priors in relationship. But no.
It literally ruined the scenario of the second part, which could avoided by "I adopted your cousin" by "I adopted a random kid that you told it's your brother".
Enjoyment : 6
This point fairly depends on who you are. If you have some background on mithology and MMORPG/ Online games, you'll find it interesting enough to see how it ends (I would have stopped at the first half if I could, it was a bit rushed, but still enjoyable). While the first part is rushed, the second is slow as hell. I think you can skip some episodes, it wouldn't make a dent.
So it's a 8 for the first part (the story is good even if rushed), but it's a sad 4 for the second part which could have fit in 6 episodes.
Overall : 5
I will not be as harsh as some may be, you have to remember when it was produced. Even if it's not well paced, not the story you wish for, or not properly equally giving purpose to other characters, you still want to know know how it ends (the first half).
But it was 6-7 useless episode in the second part which killed the -few- good moments of this anime. You're forced by the narrator to watch it because you're clueless on why there's a bunch of 12 episodes.
Compared to "A certain magical Index", and more to "A certain scientific Railgun" which is better IMHO, which aimed at the same type of public in the first place, it's not good work.
Any - random - guy - on - this - planet - could have written a story as much enjoyable as this one.
It's the same feeling that you have when reading Fullmetal Alchemist and then watch the first anime : you wonder what you just saw : "Sir I asked for a burger and you gave me a pumpkin pie". It's not FMA, it's something else. Sound was good, even great sometimes, but that's it. FMA Brotherhood is what was expected, and was mastered clearly, even if openings (sound) were less good compared to the first series.
This anime had potential, but it was wasted, and I have no clue why.
