This is a great series. This is a great manga. This is a mostly great anime. This is a garbage start to mostly great anime.

The anime Director takes LOADS of creative license in these first episodes. The story at this point is man vs self, but they don’t seem to get that. So, they make Soldart an antagonist, which is stupid because he’s to only person really rutting for Rudy at this point in the story. He’s the bro trying to get you outa the funk, but again the Director doesn’t get it. So, Soldart bad.

The English dub just makes things worse ... by confusing and ruining the tone constantly. Young Rudy and old Rudy never match up in tone or intention. Young Rudy appears to have done their homework and knows they should sound completely dejected as Quagmire. Old Rudy is just reading the script, no voice acting appears to be involved as there is absolutely no change from any other season to how it’s being performed now. English dub VA Director completely crapped the bed on this one. It’s bad enough they should have a redo for the dvd. They aren’t that smart and I doubt they care though, so the trash bits will live on.

The Season actually starts on episode 4. Just ignore the others and start there.

Sadly, a lot of really great work gets spoiled buy the subpar conjurings of an author. There is no story here. There was no story in season 1 also. But, the hope was that that was a setup season. It wasn’t. There is just no story to be had here. No characters. No character arcs. No growth. No story. It’s just a D&D game with generic characters preforming their stereotypical actions and interactions. The characters aren’t even multiclassed, which could have at least made character interactions potentially more interesting. Nope, every character does/says exactly what that character would do. Every racial conflict between characters is ... played out exactly as it is in the Players Handbook.


It’s all just…….boring. Sorry. Wish I had better news here.

A beautiful dive off the board lands in an unfortunate bellyflop. Pretty enjoyable right up until episode 10 starts. Then the story just nose dives into idiocy. What do you do when the men in black show up to take one of your loved ones away? Fight? No. Give chase? Pass. Do everything and anything within your power to stop them? Nope. Well I guess the answer is to mostly ignore it and maybe hand out some fliers as though you’re looking for a lost animal. This makes no damn sense. You know who took her, why in the hell would random passerby on the ... street have seen her? Just...I’m just... I was fine with this being a tragedy, it was reading that way since about episode 5 anyway. Reminded me of the movie K-pax to be honest. All in all it’s just a pretty flucking stupid, and unfortunate way to end a show. It’s stupid, don’t bother watching it.
