A couple years back I wrote a review on "Mars of Destruction" and gave it a generous 4/10. Oh trust me, it was bad. It's known as the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad anime. But I found it immensely entertaining, thus I gave it a higher score. It is a great addition to watch if you love unintentional comedy (movies like "The Room", "Birdemic", "Troll 2").
Yoshiteru Satou's "Skelter Heaven" is much like "Mars of Destruction". Poor animation quality, extremely amateur voice acting, a story that looks like it was written in an afternoon, meaningless characters, a desire to be like "Evangelion" but failing,
...
and an ending that tries to rival the likes of M. Night Shymalan with a pointless twist. But I would even argue that some aspects of "Skelter Heaven" were improvements over "Mars of Destruction", but that's like saying eating one spoonful of hot garbage is better than eating two spoonfuls. So if the two are so similar, then why did I go ahead and give "Mars of Destruction" a generous 4/10 and "Skelter Heaven" the lowest of the low score of 1/10?
"Skelter Heaven" is not entertaining. It has no baffling unintentional hilarity. No heads get blown up. The "twist ending" doesn't leave you in tears of laughter. "Skelter Heaven" is extremely nonsensical and dull in the absolute worst way an anime can be. It's kind of a crying shame. I went into this thinking I would laugh at the horribleness I was about to witness. But Yoshiteru Satou, you have deceived me. I feel betrayed.
The plot is nonsensical. At least in "Mars of Destruction" I can sort of tell you everything that happens. "Skelter Heaven" I can't explain. Why is a CGI Tentacool just chilling in the sky ominously? Where did it come from? Is it symbolic for something? I couldn't tell you. I don't think even Satou could.
Despite there being a rather large cast of characters, most of them could be cut out and nothing would change. There are five girls piloting mechs and only two were given some kind of semblance of character. I can't even remember their names so I'm just going to call them "Naru" and "Panty", because the main female looks like Naru from "Love Hina" and the other looks like Panty from "Panty and Stocking". There's also a male character who I shall call "Yusuke" because he looks exactly like Yusuke from "Yuu Yuu Hakusho" to the point that I'm stunned Yoshihiro Togashi didn't sue over the similarities.
Yoshiteru Satou furthers his desire to be just like "Evangelion" by having a team of people give the mechs instructions, including an older gentleman overseeing everything. We get it, Satou. We know you thought "Evangelion" was really cool and really good, but we already saw that in "Mars of Destruction" and seeing it here is really repetitive.
One of the most baffling things to me was the lack of music. Going back to Satou wanting to create something alike to "Evangelion", "Mars of Destruction" included classical music in some of its fight scenes. In "Skelter Heaven", most of the scenes are completely absent of music. This also amplifies the poor voice acting. Especially Naru and Yusuke, where there are moments where they have to scream, and I wouldn't be shocked if they used the voice actors' first takes.
The ONE part that made me laugh was the random love confession. It just happens right the hell out of nowhere and caught me off guard that I actually let out a chuckle. It made me wish "Skelter Heaven" did more things like that and I could've given it more praise, yet here we are.
"Skelter Heaven" is truly awful. I'm actually really disappointed, because I was really looking forward to something that would make me laugh the way "Mars of Destruction" did. But perhaps I was too naive. Perhaps I put way too much faith into Satou and was expecting him to churn out another piss-stained masterpiece. It's like that comedian that had that one funny joke, and they keep recycling it to the point where it becomes painfully unfunny.
It is definitely one of the worst anime I've seen. Shame on you, Satou. Shame. Shame. Shame. Shame. Shame. Shame.

While I don't believe gambling is a subject that is a completely new concept to put into anime, it definitely isn't an extremely common one. Compared to your standard tournament fighter anime, magical girl anime, "cute girls doing cute things" anime, or sports anime, the gambling genre has kind of been in the background. Some people have debated if Kakegurui is even primarily about gambling, but I'd say that if the gambling anime looked like a family tree, I feel like it would be somewhere on there.
You know how when movie trailers will edit a film to try and sell tickets? And when you
...
buy that ticket to see the movie, it turns out to be different from how the trailer showed it? That's kind of like Kakegurui. It'll keep advertising itself as a gambling anime. And while it does contain gambling, I'd say the show is more about observing how people use (or misuse) power, or what exactly addiction can do to make people make the decisions they choose to make.
Take our protagonist, Yumeko Jabami. She becomes physically aroused by the thought of intense gambling, something that terrifies her opponents. Also take note of the School President, who views the school as her own personal fish tank. She introduced a caste system into this school revolved around gambling. Those aspects are what makes Kakegurui interesting.
The show is a blast to watch. It's not a masterpiece by any means, but gosh dang I had fun watching it. It's entertaining to watch seemingly innocent looking characters make batshit insane faces and lose themselves into gambling, whether it be for money, social status, their aspirations, or their very own life.
I would recommend it to people who want to easily sweep through 12 episodes of entertainment. But if you're looking for a hardcore gambling anime, this might be a pass for you. Personally, I thought it was fun.

Ok, so...uh, remember "Nyan~ Neko Sugar Girls"? Or just any cringe-worthy video of someone making their own anime with only MS Paint? Hell, I made one of those shows in eighth grade. Oh, god, I'm cringing. But just imagine if someone made a show with those set of skills and they somehow had a budget other than zero dollars.
Everything about this show just seems incomprehensible to me. The humor, the pacing, the writing, that animation...was this actually made by humans, or was this programmed by a computer program who you just described anime to for the first time?
Episodes are extremely short, clocking in at
...
about two minutes if you cut out the opening and ending song. However, it's not worth it. Even with such a short span, you feel every single second scrape past. It's like "Pupa", but at the VERY least, "Pupa" had some potential to be a somewhat creative story (it wasn't). However, "Vampire Holmes" has nothing. There is nothing in this that screams potential.
The animation genuinely confuses me. Is this a NewGrounds flash cartoon or an anime? Did my fourth grade anime drawings come to life? I was more fascinated by the art in those "Legend of Zelda" CD-I games than this.
The story? Pfft. Haha. That's a good one. Rolie Polie Olie had a damn better story.
I have no idea why I decided to waste my time with this show. I guess I was bored and wanted to be amused by content so horrendous I could laugh at it, give it a 4/10 (my "so bad it's good" score) and move on to something more worth my time. But it wasn't even worth that. While I was baffled, it was not in an entertained way. I was greatly entertained by how awful something like "Mars of Destruction" was, because it screams "so bad, it's good". It was a rolling stone of suck that made me laugh from start to finish, the same way "The Room" or "Cool Cat Saves the Kids" did. But "Vampire Holmes" did not have that same effect at all. I went in KNOWING it was going to suck and was still let down. Now, that's bad.
I do genuinely find bad anime interesting in the same way I find bad films interesting. They're kind of like case studies of what NOT to do. As a writer, it's kind of a cool learning experience to see how NOT to do something. It's like film editors watching "Suicide Squad" to see how not to edit a film, or having film directors watch something like "Son of the Mask" to see how not to make a film. I sometimes do the same with books, so I notice the errors in storytelling, grammar, prose, and development, and make a mental note to not do the same. However, I don't get that same effect at all from "Vampire Holmes". There's nothing to learn from it. Because it exudes nothing. It teaches you nothing, you gain nothing, you learn nothing. It is nothing.

There will always be those people who will never give anime a chance. They will only view it as cliched, obscure, and sometimes perverted. Anime fans like you and me know that there are some fantastic anime that exist. There are anime who step beyond the stereotypes and make incredible, unique, memorable, and well-written shows. The people who will never give anime a chance may not understand this, because shit like "Angel's Drop" is the kind of bile they imagine when they think of anime, and this isn't OK.
I have no idea what those 5 minutes were. I watched it once on YouTube where it
...
had German subtitles, and I had no idea what in Jesus's name was happening. I found a version with English subtitles, and I still can't tell you what happened. But whatever happened, I didn't like it. You know that image "Ceiling Naraku is not amused" (google it, you could find it to be quite useful)? That was my face when I watched "Angel's Drop" both times.
There are incredible pieces of animation done in a five minute span. The "Azumanga Daioh" short movie was 5 minutes long, and while not a masterpiece, was still SOMETHING. Look up "Out of Sight" and "Fumiko's Confession" on YouTube. Even those Mameshiba commercials have more developed characters and stories than "Angel's Drop". It's difficult to tell a story in around 5 minutes, but it CAN be done, and those examples as well as countless other YouTube animated videos are proof of this. So whatever "Angel's Drop" was doing wasn't even in the same ball park. It was just nonsensical in every way.
I cannot think of any reason to watch it other than pure curiosity. I don't think it's going to kill anyone, but it'll definitely make you sit there and question why anyone in their sane mind would ever consider bringing something like this to life. It's like a fart. It'll smell awful, and it'll be loud. And the people around you are going to complain and try and get the smell away. Even when it disappears, it still leaves you a bit of a mess.
There is no other way to describe "Angel's Drop". It is a five minute fart of an anime.

Sometimes you have to look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself, "it's gonna be OK. You have a purpose. You are going to live a happy, healthy life full of wonder and awe. You are going to make a difference, whether it be to one person or to millions of people. You will be amazing." But then things like "Master of Martial Hearts" reaaaaally begin to make me want to shatter the mirror and eat the glass shards so I can forget all about the horrors of such a piece of shit show.
Look, I understand why ecchi anime exists. Yeah 90% of me
...
finds the genre sexist and deplorable and not very progressive towards putting female characters in a positive light, but I get it. I'm not going to scream into a megaphone about how it's the worst thing ever, because it caters to an audience the same way horror films do. Not everyone is going to willingly purchase a ticket to see "Paranormal Activity 49: Dawn of the Ghosties", and that's OK. I'm not going to buy every DVD of "Ikki Tousen", but that's OK. Whatever.
But how do ecchi fans find "Master of Martial Hearts" entertaining? It does show nudity, but they're animated so poorly that it's not worth it to get excited about them. The animation in general is just so shoddy. This feels like it should've been in 2002, but this is 2008. 2008?! Ah, fall of 2008. The season of anime that brought us "Clannad: After Story", "Toradora!", and "Michiko to Hatchin" brings us "plastic breasts" and "rubber doll anatomy". The beauty! *vomits*
And can we just talk about that opening theme? I don't mind opening songs and I enjoy a lot of them, and some are even beautiful and unique. I've heard many people compare the singer of the opening song to a worse Avril Lavigne, and it's really the most accurate way to describe her. I only hope that someday she learned how to sing without going off key, but who knows. I think she may have been embarrassed to be apart of "Master of Martial Hearts" and decided to hide away in shame.
You would think that "Master of Martial Hearts" would be easy to get through since it's only 5 episodes in length. Yeah, "Pupa" and "Mars of Destruction" are less than an hour long and look how well people turned out from those monstrosities. These 5 episodes feel like a lifetime. It's like trying to binge watch "Naruto" in a day.
I know why we're all REALLY here, though. That last episode. That final middle finger of an episode that made me resent everything. You know, that final episode that has the "dark twist" that takes over fifteen minutes of expository dialogue to explain it (yeah, what if "The Sixth Sense" took a half hour to explain about Bruce Willis? 10/10 BEST MOVIE. M. NIGHT SHAMABAMARAMA IS THE NEW SPIELBERG.) The last episode is so absurd, so disgusting, so UNNECESSARY that it really seals the nail in the coffin that "Master of Martial Hearts" is for NO ONE. Ecchi fans would hate it because it does a poor job of being a strong asset in the genre, and the final episode is so UNSEXY that anyone who DOES find it even the slightest bit sexy needs to listen to an Enya CD and talk to a therapist. Women would hate it for its degrading portrayals of women as well as the constant fan service, as well as the outcomes of the characters in the final fifth episode. Anime fans would hate it because of the poor animation, soundtrack, characters, and multiple plot holes that the show was riddled with. Parents would hate it because they find it demeaning and would never show their children such a thing. Teachers would hate it because it teaches viewers absolutely nothing. Pets would hate it because it is so loud and obnoxious that it always makes them leave the room in a panicked stupor. Michael Bay would hate it because it didn't nearly have enough explosions to satisfy his cash boner. Time travelers would hate it because when they come to the past to find something to eternally preserve, if they watch this they will regret ever coming to the past and weep their way back to the future where they can have their minds controlled once more by the Squid-Men. God would hate it because it would make him question why he decided to create all of mankind. He promised he would never bring another flood, but he does so anyway. The oceans clash and the waves pour unto the cities. The buildings collapse and the people scream in agony. Their lives are at an end. They question why God would do this, didn't he love all of his children? So why take away their lives in such a wretched, cruel way? The world is cleansed, the last person swallows the saltwater that killed their friends and family. The world is silent. God sheds a tear. It is time to start again: to start a new population of humans. He will protect them this time. He will save them from such fates. A world...rid of those who created "Master of Martial Hearts".
This is the worst anime I've ever seen.

"Hey Gingy, you like magical girl shows, right?"
"I sure do."
"What about this show called "Yuki Yuna is a Hero"?"
"Ok, what's it like?"
"It's a show that starts off innocent and sweet but the more you watch it, the more the characters begin to suffer and you can see the dark undertones of the show come out."
...
"Hmmmm....are you referring to "Puella Magi Madoka Magica"? My favorite anime of all time?"
"No, I'm referring to "Yuki Yuna"."
"Hmmm....HMMMMMM....HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM..."
Ok, all joking aside, I'm not going to cast my eyes away and ignore the similarities between "Madoka Magica" and "Yuki Yuna". I'm also not going to be the one who wipes Cheeto dust on my jeans and says that "Yuki Yuna" is a rip-off of "Madoka Magica". Despite the similarities, "Yuki Yuna" is still able to be its own thing.
Yeah, I liked this show. I was into it. I really loved the animation and I legitimately felt the friendships between the girls in the Hero Club. I also thought the voice acting was well done, including the English dub. The slice of life elements were there, but the drama moments were excellent. It hit its notes just right.
However, this show lost some points for one aspect: nothing is lost.
This might get a bit spoiler-ish, but I'll do my best to not outright say what happens. In "Madoka Magica", the characters gain things by losing. And while the ending was very bittersweet but leaning more towards the happier side, sacrifices were still made.
In "Yuki Yuna", sacrifices are made, but they don't really matter. Things return to how they were, and it almost seems pointless to have them lose anything if things return to how they were before, and they don't really gain anything, either.
No matter, because I did enjoy the show. It had its hiccups, but I could look past most of them. I really hope this a series that gets continued into spin-offs or sequels and whatnot.

I give up. I can't do it. When you start to watch a show that's supposed to be about the twists and turns and you're just sitting there predicting what's about to happen and getting it right, the show has failed to entertain me. I'm about to get some messages telling me how I'm wrong and how this show was "ZOMG so dark and deceiving and KEWL and TOO DEEP FOR U TO UNDERSTAND", but I don't care. Sorry not sorry.
Look, I liked the first episode. But I wish I had stopped right after the first episode. That episode on its own would've left me
...
satisfied, but it just kept going and getting more and more hard to watch. And not because of blood and guts.
I adore slice of life anime. "Azumanga Daioh", "Nichijou", and "Strawberry Marshmallow" are some of my favorite series. Heck, I even tolerated "Lucky Star" well enough (except Patty. I hate Patty. Fuck Patty), so I'm not here to complain about the slice of life elements. I'm also not here to complain about the dead horse known as "zombie media". If it's well-written and clever, I can watch a zombie show or movie just fine.
I AM here to complain about the show's predictability and the characters. You can immediately guess what was going to happen throughout the show, and that almost ruined it for me. But even worse was how the other characters treated Yuki. They keep saying how she is their ray of hope and how they can't possibly tell her anything that happens, but allowing someone to stay in denial in such a serious situation is NOT GOING TO HELP, IT IS GOING TO HARM.
And you might be thinking of arguing with, "yeah, Gingy, but when serious stuff happens, we can't let kids know. We have to distract them and keep them from knowing the darkness of the world". Yeah, because they're kids. Yuki is the same age as the other girls, so why they keep putting her in denial makes little to no sense. She's not a child.
I really tried to like this show. I really did. There were some moments that were fine, and the first episode did a great job of catching the eyes of a lot of anime fans. However, I wasn't pleased.
I probably made someone mad with this review. Sorry. I'm not going to argue back and forth about why you liked the show and I didn't. I'm just going to sip my Calpico and watch some "Azumanga Daioh" to regenerate myself.

Sorry if this seems long, I have a lot of personal back story with this puppy.
I grew up with anime ever since I was five years old and saw my very first episode of "Sailor Moon" on TV. I also grew up with Studio Ghibli films. Anime was always there, but I didn't realize what it truly was until I was about 10 years old. My older sister was starting to get into anime, and so naturally I followed in her footsteps, because older siblings were cool, yo. We got into reading manga, but there was a problem: my parents were a bit strict
...
on ratings. My sister could read manga that said "for 13 and older", because she was 13, but I couldn't, because I was 10. Thus, for the first couple of years of my anime and manga life, I was mostly stuck with magical girls and stuff intended for younger audiences. I didn't really mind, though, because it was anime and manga and to me, that was all that mattered.
My very first manga was volume 1 of "Di Gi Charat", characters created by Koge-Donbo, and I loved it. Being a big fan of "Di Gi Charat", I searched for more of Koge-Donbo's works. I begged to get the "Pita-Ten" manga (I wasn't 13 yet) because it was by my goddess Koge-Donbo! For Christmas I got the first three volumes and was so excited I thought my eleven-year old mind would implode.
Imagine my excitement when Koge-Donbo released "Kamichama Karin". I ate up that manga like Ponyo ate up ham. Mmm. It also pleased me because I was REALLY into Greek Mythology. Our class in seventh grade spent a whole month on Greek Mythology and to this day was one of the most interesting and entertaining subjects I have ever learned in a classroom. I told my teacher about "Kamichama Karin" and how it had references to Greek Mythology! I was so pleased!
When they announced a "Kamichama Karin" anime, I'm pretty sure I almost peed my pants. I watched it over and over, and even made "Kamichama Karin" AMVs in the eighth grade *cringe*. For the longest time, "Kamichama Karin" was the greatest thing to happen to me in my entire life.
So what the hell happened? I grew up.
Now, don't get me wrong, I love magical girl anime to death. And I'm not just talking about using the magical genre for social commentary like in "Puella Magi Madoka Magica", but the legitimate magical girl stuff. "Sailor Moon", "Cardcaptor Sakura", "Princess Tutu", "Saint Tail", I love these shows! They told girls like me that I can be super feminine and still kick ass.
"Kamichama Karin" tells me that, sure, you can have all of these cool powers, but you're going to really suck at them and constantly need help from guys to save your hiney.
Looking back on "Kamichama Karin" as an adult, it's really upsetting. I looked upon this anime so fondly from sixth to eighth grade, and it's like it was all meant for nothing. The things I liked about it during those days suddenly seemed meaningless.
Like the Greek Mythology. How cool of an idea is that? Anime characters harnessing the power of the gods and goddesses? Well, they don't really do much with it. They just kind of say "Karin, you have the power of Athena", and don't really do anything with it. Imagine how cool it would be if they dove into the history of Greek Mythology and tied that to the story, but there is no point to having Greek Myth in this story. You could've replaced the gods and goddesses with "the guardians of the tundras of CandyLand" and it would've made as much sense.
Also, magical girl anime is supposed to be where female characters shine. So why is Karin so useless? She hardly uses her power, and when she does, it either doesn't work or doesn't have a big payoff. It's usually Kazune who does all the work (and by all the work, I mean say what his power is, shoot a beam of light, and the bad guy going "oh no, you got me, i'll get you next time!").
Karin is such a disappointing character. I don't mind that she doesn't get good grades, I don't mind that she's awkward and clumsy, and I don't mind that she butts heads with Kazune. What I DO mind is how her character is portrayed as weak because she is feminine. Like I said, she never uses her powers. And instead of seeing character progression and seeing her become stronger (like Usagi Tsukino in "Sailor Moon"), she learns nothing. What's the point of a protagonist in a magical girl anime that doesn't learn anything or gain anything? Instead we just see her fawning over Kazune and Kirika.
I also think the anime didn't adapt the manga very well. While I'm not forgiving the manga for its share of flaws, taking out important plot points and characters is just a big mistake for an adaptation. Yuuki is actually supposed to be a more important character in the manga (even if that plot point isn't written very well at all), but in the anime his character is "boy who plays violin that Miyon likes". Also, there was a character in the manga named Ami who appeared. She's no where in the anime. Granted, she wasn't the most important character ever, but it would've been nice to include her. I'm not saying manga-to-anime adaptations have to follow every single thing, but maybe they could've been used to improve the anime.
Also, one of my absolute biggest pet peeves was the voice acting for Himeka. Everyone else was fine, but Himeka was so annoying. I have never heard a character speak so slowly in my life. This is the voice that I imagine if you gave drying paint a voice. You know when the teacher called on that one kid in class to read and it takes ten minutes for them to get through a sentence and you're sitting there trying not to squirm from the pain? That's Himeka's voice.
So, uh, what do I like about the show?
Believe it or not, I do like some of the characters. Some. I like Kirika and Kirio. I don't think Kirio is one of the greats in anime villain history, but I wish we had more focus on his relationship with Kirika and Himeka Karasuma. I feel like more people would've sympathized with him. I also like Michiru. Except when he gets rapey and decides to randomly kiss people. Eh. I've also always really liked Kazusa and wish both the manga and the show had more focus on her, because she's kind of like, "hello, it is I, a character that is said to be important", and proceeds to not really do anything important. But I would've loved to see an episode focused on her instead of six more scenes where Karin punches Kazune and calls him a sexist pig.
I also thought the anime did a better job with some relationships. While I was just saying how I wish it showed Kirio's relationships more, I really liked how Karin was able to see how important Himeka Karasuma was to him. I even liked the moments between both Himeka's, because we never saw anything like that in the manga.
The animation is OK, but is pretty infamous for its "quality". If you google "anime quality" in images, one of the very first things you'll see is the very infamous "Karin fish eye" screenshot from episode 4. And yes, it's hilarious. Luckily the rest of the show looks better and they did fix up some of the mistakes for the DVD release, but it still has its share of hiccups, like some more fish eyes, some anatomy errors, hair looking too long or too short, or clothes looking too big or too small.
Ok, I think it's about time to wrap this up. I've spent most of my time criticizing, so you would think I would give this anime a lower score. And yeah, maybe I should've given this a 3 (I give 4's to anime I find laughably bad). But I'm not going to, because I can't forget how "Kamichama Karin" was a big part of my life at some point.
I adored the manga, and I did watch the anime almost religiously. My "Kamichama Karin" AMV's and fanfiction were cringy and not very good, but it did help me understand good writing and good editing. Now that I've grown up, I can see the flaws pouring out. But I can't deny that once in my life, it was one of the few things I clung onto with such passion.
So, to finally wrap this all up, would I recommend this to anyone? I think magical girl anime fans will like it well enough, although it might not be the greatest thing ever. I think beginner anime watchers might enjoy it too, the same way I enjoyed it when I was beginning to really get into anime. Eventually, though, I think when you grow up you can understand that, no, maybe it really isn't all that great as it seemed.

4?! A 4/10 you say?! Isn't that a bit generous considering the content?
Well, if you understand my rating system, I usually give a 4 to anime that are bad, but in all the right ways. You know how "The Room" and "Birdemic" and "Cool Cat Saves the Kids" are famous for being terrible movies, but are beloved for being so bad? "Mars of Destruction" is in the same vein in my opinion. Oh, it's bad. It's REALLY bad. But it's so DELICIOUSLY bad.
Anime like "Master of Martial Hearts" and "Pupa" were awful because they made me question people's sanity and ability to create likable content.
...
They were awful through and through. There was never a silver lining and never even a moment when I enjoyed what I was viewing. "Mars of Destruction" was awful but I savored and loved every moment of it. It made me question "why?", but I also laughed. I laughed hard. I thought I would get a six pack more in the twenty minutes from watching "Mars of Destruction" instead of a forty minute core workout.
Seriously, this stuff is hilarious. It's the perfect thing to watch when you're a couple of drinks in and have a friend over and you need to laugh your butts off for twenty minutes.
Everything from the lack of an original thought, to the infamous head explosion scene, to the absolutely amateur-sounding "baby's first fandub" voice acting, to the "twist" ending, is a roller coaster of horribleness. It's Mr. Bones' Wild Ride that's going to make you sick, but it's still worth it.
I would recommend it to the following people:
-Anyone who is creating content right now. Whether it be writing a book, a screenplay, or heck, even a manga; I would recommend this to you so you can see how not to write a story.
-For those people, like me, whose favorite comedy is unintentional comedy. If you enjoy films like "The Room" and "Birdemic", you will most likely enjoy this puppy, too.
-For anyone who is genuinely curious. You interested in seeing an objectively bad anime? Give it a try. I think a lot of people forget what something being "bad" means. There's a difference between disliking an anime and addressing if something is low quality. For example, I don't like "Bleach". I don't like it, but I'm not going to call it the worst anime ever solely because I wasn't a fan of it. I can still see that it contains quality and passion, even if I couldn't give a hoot about it. "Mars of Destruction's" quality is non-existent, therefore it's appropriate of being called "the worst thing ever".
I personally don't find it to be the worst thing ever. "Mars of Destruction" is just way too entertaining. Maybe I am being too generous, but I don't really care. I would get another ticket for Mr. Bones' Wild Ride.

Oh my stars, you have no idea how long I have waited for this day. It feels like it's been ages since the last time I watched an anime and was really into what I was seeing. It's been so long since I watched through a show, immediately slammed my hands onto the keyboard to get to MAL and give an anime a 10. Through all the midst of anime I rated 6's and 5's, this is so refreshing.
I adored this show. If this show were a banana split, I would eat it up until the very last bit, slam my hands on the countertop
...
and demand at least a dozen more.
Yeah yeah, I'm ready for the "but Gingy, this show is so overrated and predictable!" Come at me. Because no matter how much you think this show is getting too much hype, I'm not budging. I loved this show. I loved every moment where I chewed on my fingernails or felt my heart sink for Kayo.
One of the show's biggest strengths is how smart it is. Satoru is a SMART character that's also HUMAN. In anime, it's hard to find characters that aren't stereotypes. Sometimes I'm a sucker for the same old same old, but the content I enjoy most contains the characters that I can either relate to or truly respect. Satoru isn't a Gary Stu, but he's also not a dumbbell. The way he thinks ahead and strategizes is incredible to me, and thus I give him a clink of the glass for being such an awesome character.
The animation is fluid and top notch (the Christmas tree scene? OMG). The story might have a few predictable bumps for those who are veterans in the mystery/suspense genre, but I think the clever writing makes up for them.
I massively enjoyed this anime, and I'm so glad I gave it a watch. I'm currently going through that phase where I question if I am getting too old for anime. In 2011, I watched "Puella Magi Madoka Magica" for the first time and it changed my life, and pretty much since then, it has been so hard to find an anime to make me feel the way watching "Madoka" did. The closest was when I watched "Revolutionary Girl Utena" for the first time a few months back, but I think "Erased" came closest. It has a few hiccups, but I can easily excuse them because, for the first time in a long time, it made me happy to be watching anime.
