you have great taste, dont mind that Re:Zero faggot man. You have LotGH, Rakugo Shinjuu and Vinland on your fav list so you understand a good writing very well.
Subaru isn't one bit realistic so don't listen to these people fighting nail and tooth to defend their favourite cartoon. Formulate your own opinions on a show and for the most part you're pretty much spot on.
"To me, re:Zero is only good if you like or can relate to the cast. I'm the type of viewer that enjoys Anime better with a strong MC & if it lacks that, then the story needs to be great to compensate for it. Something like Shinsekai Yori for instance.
I find Subaru annoying, cringeworthy & unrealistic, the story is very generic & I'm not attracted to 2D characters so the Waifu-bait supporting cast actually had the complete opposite effect on me.
Isekai is a subgenre with endless potential so I hate the generic trash we're constantly given."
This is my reply to that
Subaru is one of the most well written and realistic characters. The only thing unrelatable is that weird cringey finger pointing he does. (Although it is relatable for some... people..) Especially with the second season where his past is shown on how he tries to impress others by decieving them and setting expectations on himself only bringing stress. He has his flaws, makes many mistakes has lots of insecurities about himself and makes many actions that bring him regret and starts of weak while growing very slowly and going through pain. If you think the MC of dbz, vinland saga or AOT is relatable then you're just an edgy teenager who think's he's cool or something. Except for when it comes to the final season of aot. Damn great development with Eren. Subaru may not look cool like Kiritsugu Emiya, he isn't as strong as Gilgamesh, not as revenge driven like Naofumi and Thorfinn and his thoughts not as deep as Shinji Ikari, he isn't as smart as Lelouch or Light, but that is what makes him well written and realistic.
If you say that Yagami Light is relatable, then you are fooling yourself. I don't even care if you hate Re:Zero, but the anime is well written.
If you want to write story, you should start Main Character from the zero, so you can develope it. If Subaru is weak for you he could get insanely strong in final seasons. If Subaru was strong at the start then anime will trash because we will miss everything in the story.
I find subaru realistic, cringe at start (realistic) definetely best written anime protoganist. His development through story is fantastic.
Re:Zero is not trash. Every character is well-written, Fantasy world amazing, There is no plot armor, no plot convenience, no plot holes. Story driven by the Lore.
It is easily a masterpiece if you understand every scene or analyze it in depth.
You gived Shingeki no Kyojin 10/10 but Eren was one of worst main character in first three seasons if you remember? Not even need to mention Subaru is more realistic and well-written than Eren will ever get.
"Isekai is a subgenre with endless potential so I hate the generic trash we're constantly given."
Exactly that's why Re:Zero is top tier. Because it is another level from every other isekai released
