This manga is filled with magic. The magic of life. Just like how Nicola can turn monsters in the demon world into a being filled with love, every chapter of this manga can cure a man's soul. The demon world in which Nicola stumbles into seems bizarre to ours in comparison until you realize it's actually a parallel universe with a lot in common. The monsters of this demon world aren't that different from the humans that get consumed by evil in ours. In both, people get separated by race, government get blinded by power, and greed gets the better of us to the point ... that we forget to enjoy the journey and smell the flowers.

In the same way characters' negative outlooks change when faced with Nicola's purity and sheer will, the reader too is purified from evil and turned soft and gooey inside after each chapter. The story of Nicola's journey with Simon shows us how a little love can trigger a long chain of positive events for many others beyond the ones close to us. All it takes, is clarity and will to do what's right. I think this manga is a gift to the world because it shows us how simple solutions sometimes are when seen from a child's eyes.

I highly recommend this manga not just for the points listed above, but also for the gorgeous unique art style, genuinely creative episodic plots, touching main storyline, lovable characters and perfect ending. I wish one day we get more of the wonderful Nicola and her friends inhabit, but for now I am forever thankful I read this. During these hard times, stories like this shine bright for those losing hope and remind us of what's important in this bleak world.

I shit you not, I thought this manga was going to be about mewing yet somehow it turned out to surpass even that level of ridiculousness. It might have some puns lost in the translation since Japanese tend to wordplay a lot, but I don't know since I read it in English. The shenanigans are great to kill time and be entertained but don't expect much after.

For some reason I need to write more for this review to be published so ignore my irrelevant rambling. I actually don't even know why I am going this far to publish a review for a one-shot mid ... manga but here we are.

This is such a great historical time capsule of storytelling. Some of these stories have been passed down for generations from storyteller to storyteller all over the world. For example, the story of the Death God or "Shikigami" is an old tale known as the Godfather Death, in this book Yoshiro shows us the Japanese twist to the original story with great charm. The last story is the gem of the book as I prefer the Mexican variant of the Godfather Death tale in the movie Macario. I only give it 9/10 because some of the ending punch lines were odd but that might be ... due to my unfamiliarity to Japanese humor. Quite an enjoyable read.
