This anime is horrible. This anime is an example of an amazing and unique concept, with an actual living world that the characters inhabit, TAINTED by the story and it's characters.
It would be easier to point out what the anime did okay, and that is it's world and it's OST. The world that the anime is set in is genuinely unique and captivating, it feels like there's genuine care put in to show and tell a world that is full of the breath of life. The OST further complements the world, and it's genuinely enjoyable. Neither of these are masterpiece material, but ya know, it's
...
alright.
Suspension of disbelief only works for so long, and the viewer can only accept so much before they call BS on the work. The characters go from doing Infinite IQ moves to being dumber than a piece of floating algae in the ocean. The story has ZERO IDEA how to keep the show going without resorting to the characters being absolute potatoes, and alongside the HORRIBLE PACING and the shitty forced one liners and cliche tropes it turns a unbearable cast of characters into a TORTUROUS experience.
When the viewer starts questioning everything the characters do, it's when you fail as an anime. They are no longer immersed, they are no longer emotionally attached to the plot, they are simply there to watch the Hindenburg crash to the ground.
Don't watch this anime. Just don't.

I'm currently writing this review after reading the entirety of the manga. I'll be upfront, I'm using this as a way to collect my thoughts.
How do the people around you shape who you are as a person? How many circumstances affect who you are? How much have you given up to uphold those faces? And with that, how much of you is really you?
The story is there, it's not great. It's merely there, to be a vehicle for the characters to move through the manga with. If you read this manga, you're here for the characters, how they adapt and react to what's thrown
...
at them, how they choose and decide on the things that happen to them.
The art isn't spectacular either, though it is almost perfect for the manga. It brings to life the most important moments in the story, even if it brings you great discomfort while doing so. It is there to enunciate, nothing less and nothing more.
This manga isn't a masterpiece. Far from it, but it does give you a story led by a cast of characters that will make you ponder on the questions it's willing to ask. There will be discomfort, there will be a sense of wrong instilled in you when you read this manga, and after all that you will never get a satisfying ending.
I liked this manga, not for what it has in it's panels, but what it is willing to show me.

I...wow. Where do I even begin with this disappointment of a show.
TL;DR I hate people who do this but; Don't watch this, read the manga. Please.
Shuumatsu no Valkyrie is a adaptation of a manga of the same name, all you need to understand about the plot is this, a battle between the greatest of gods and the greatest of humans to decide humanity's fate.
This adaptation falls flat in every single aspect except for sound, and even then I wouldn't call it a passable standard.
Story: 3/10
...
The story in Shuumatsu no Valkyrie is already a simple one, but the manga made it work by putting it as a side dish to the main course, the battle. This anime completely falls flat on that regard, for some reason they are insistent on over explaining things that can be easily summed up with no words, just a singular frame. Adding random scenes that just does not add anything to the moment, except as a way to bore the viewer. Absolutely awful.
Art and Animation: 2/10
I was drawn to Shuumatsu no Valkyrie's manga originally from having caught a glimpse on the beautifully drawn panels. The manga managed to weave so much life and emotion into how they drew the panels, and especially the characters. How they used over exaggeration to convey to the reader the nature of the characters was a genuine pleasure for the eyes.
Now take all the praise I said and dump it in the trash when it comes to the anime. Not only did they tone down or even outright remove the manga's use of over exaggeration, they did that and still somehow end up with an anime that looks like a damn power point slide. There is barely any personality to the characters in how they move and conduct themselves. It's 2021 folks, this just isn't acceptable anymore.
Sound: 5/10
The 2 things that an anime has an advantage over a manga, animation and sound. They completely fumbled the ball for animation, how about sound? Whelp it's completely and plainly average. There's so many moments where impactful sound design would help drive the scene, but they just did not give a damn apparently. What a shame.
Character: 5/10
The characters in Shuumatsu no Valkyrie's manga are all extremely unique. They each have their own trait, their defining feature. The characters were so full of life and emotion. It was so enjoyable to see all these characters interact with each other, no one falling behind and each of them a strong beacon that helps guide these battles to be as grand as they can be.
I saved this scoring for last so as to give you a clearer picture of the problems of this anime adaptation. All of these issues; bad animation, bad story direction, bad sound design, made the characters feel duller than they were in the manga. And that's just so damn disappointing, when you know what these characters were capable of showing, now reduced to shounen character number #22.
Overall: 3/10
Save yourself the time. I really hate people who do this, but I must make an exception for this title. Please, read the manga instead of watching this anime. The anime is such a pathetic excuse of an adaptation, it should have never been made. What could have been an amazing spectacle, turned to a mediocre uninspired...thing, that will inevitably get thrown into the pile with the other generic shounen anime.
