Ah Madoka, a very popular work praised for being a genre defying work.
It was a decent anime, especially if you are just starting out noted for its dark themes and cute cast. Nice production with some very predictable parts to the plot regarding wishing and how broken of a fantasy concept that is.
However as a nitroplus and urobuchi work it is terrible
Story-3
A very flawed story full of contrivinces and missed opportunities at every chance to make it tragic for the sake of it, I predicted the end before even halfway into the show.
Characters-2
Worst of all is the characters that fail at every possibility and
...
set everything in motion, one in particular could have stopped the whole plot by being more proactive. Urobuchi never really wrote female main characters like this and it shows.
Presentation-8
Best part by far, weird visuals by shaft ( it looks very similar to hidamri sketch in design and coloring) and even though the music isnt from nitro+'s ZIZZ its still strikingly great having some standout vocal tracks.
Enjoyment-0
Urobuchi lost all his integrity when he stopped doing eroge, he now makes shallow trash with non of his amazing writing to punctuate action and world building. His anime are so bad on average that they may as well be by some nobody rather than himself as he made nitroplus into what they are which is the best eroge company to date. His anime is watered down and his usual tone of pitch black became a very light gray as he started to lose his heart for dark stories and focus more on making bank by slapping his name on everything. His eroge are all masterpieces in various ways one way is by how he will clearly define the true intent of the work to you in the first 30 minutes, in madoka it takes 3 episodes and comes to quickly to really care about the character rather than the fact that it just happened. It's hollow edginess with no impact, the urobuchi I know was far better at making me care and making the stakes matter more than this. Vampirdzhija Vjedogonia ( also by urobuchi) came out nearly a decade before madoka and its easy to see where nitroplus's priorites shifted too, making completley casualized to get as many people to love it while trying to deliver a good story, in Vampirdzhija Vjedogonia's case it was an eroge that lacked all sense of caring about what YOU prefer and instead giving you a story that was horrifying and badass to the very core but supported by suprisingly great writing, so it wasnt hard to fall in love with the unique honesty the eroge had. Madoka has 0% of the integrity of that vn and fails to get you invested unlike Phantom of the inferno, Kikokugai, or Saya no uta ( also all by urobuchi). Fir these reasons my enjoyment of this title is a flat out 0 even if one is as low as MAL will let me go.
Overall-3 / 10
Urobuchi died in 2011, dont let anyone tell you otherwise, he left nitroplus's eroge writing entirely in the hands of shimokura for years now with no sign of returning. Madoka is a very flawed work, but the fact that Urobuchi wrote this and not something better in text form is an unforgivable blow

Every time a new Nitro + anime comes about, people **** themselves over how crazy they are and over hype them to a disgusting level. You see this kind of thing happen with every anime Gen Urobuchi had part in despite his visual novels being of far better quality in all aspects.
Gonna admit the first episode had a twist so outrageous it made me yell at the monitor but everything from that point just suffers from these HORRIBLE tonal shifts that make the series seem divided between 2 things, it fails so bad when it does this it's like having a meal solely of
...
cotton candy, jalapenos, and black coffee, its THAT bad.
The cg zombies are just bad, i'm lenient on cg but come on guys.
Characters are ehh, something ambitious like a Nitro+ story needs more than 12 episodes to work, or the writing needs to be spot on, which it isn't here.
I can't remember the music to save my life, probably because it couldn't keep up with the tonal shifts.
The first episode is the only one you should see, but you should see it because it hits like a canon, but the follow up is the worst thing ive ever seen. " but bro its got cute girls and (spoilers), its so awesome!!"
Maybe, it could have been, but as a nitro+ anime it failed awfully.
A solid 3 outta 10, thats being generous
If you want something else like this by Nitro+ you can read Saya no Uta or Chaos;head with have unstable protagonists like this but a much better execution. They have z(spoiler) in tokyo necro as well if you can read it, peace!

Have you ever expierenced a show you can honestly call "dangerously moe".
Something that gives you permanent heart damage ever episode you watch?
Kiniro Mosaic as a series that I find capable of this over and over
It's been about 2 years since the 1st season of Kiniro Mosaic which immediatly became one of my top anime. Many a manly tear was shed on the last episode, but this is a review for it's sequel so let's dive in.
Story 7/10
The daily lives of our cast of 5 continues to be filled with diverse adorable hi-jinks and needs to be nothing more, it is a moe show after all.
...
*barely spoilers*
The closest thing comparable to conflict in this series is the last 2 eps where Alice and Karen leave Japan for a week to go to England, this of course breaks Shino's heart but is played as comedic and sweet.
Art 9/10
Same look from Kiniro Mosaic season 1, not much animation to speak of except for the comedic pop ups in the background on funny scenes. No exceptional settings except for England maybe. The art is still as moe as you remember.
Sound 9/10
The music in short is heart warming and happy as the show is in whole. I'm not one for remembering anime OST but what was presented here definetly stuck out to me.
Characters voices are all very fitting and cute, hearing Karen's broken Japanese or the Engrish never fails to make me happy
Character 10/10
Hello! Kiniro Mosaic contains a few obvious character archetypes, maybe with some quirky qualities to them, not worth going over though. Seeing them all interact together or individually is very enjoyable, and this season added some new side characters to the mix, although some don't seem to get much screen time. Still overall great
Enjoyment 10/10
The "10" up there is all they would let me have, but my enjoyment for this series far exceeds that. This show made me laugh out loud many times and is always reliable for bring up your mood.
Overall 10/10
Hello! Kiniro Mosaic is a show I always watched sparringly and hesitated in trepidation at starting the next episode, because I don't really enjoy the thought of blowing through a season I'm loving ever second of. However I completely reccomend this series as in my opinion the best moe anime series. Thanks for reading
