Hey, the name's Gab! Just an average animation enthusiast kinda guy! You know how it is...
Once was a weeb, always a Ghibli lover, and now onto animation cinema! (Totally not an otaku/nerd)
It's like Made in Abyss, except it's a giant rabbit hole!!! (Referring to my love for animation)
If you like anime and cartoons, you're welcome to friend me here and on my LB!

1. I think, I really love the language itself. I love how it sounds, and it's pretty similar to my native language, so it's easier to understand. I also really love the art. Some animes have splendid background art, like Makoto Shinkai's or Miyazaki's movies, P.A works animes etc.
They are such general things, but still :D I also like the way emotions are conveyed. I think an anime reviewer called animes "melodramatic" but I really don't mind that. I absolutely love it when people show their emotions so intensely and lay their heart out. Voice acting has a role in reflecting these emotions as well, so maybe it's another reason I'm drawn to it.
2. Hmm... I'm really into dramas and psychological animes, I also like mystery. I like mind-games and plot-twists. I also have a weird admiration towards the theme Time Travel. I really can't watch something so heavy, so slow, and soo dark.
3. I usually don't like endings I guess, when I start something I get anxious that it's going to end after a few episodes lol but then, as I get closer to the end I get distracted and completely forget about the series I was scared of finishing. It's not that I don't finish, more likee... I can't? My attention span is really poor unfortunately, I really can't focus on things for so long.
Also, I really love the way you think of the endings. The main couple ending up together usually what keeps me going too, lol. I understand why you want to see how stories end. And the way you find it similar to how it feels like having a really nice day, in which everything aligns together. And woah, something really small and trivial could really change some things. Maybe it could spark some inspiration, maybe a quote leads you to new paths of thinking or new feelings... maybe it makes something in your life seem more meaningful. You never know.
Also, I love this: "The sky is limitless when it comes to art"
Thank you for sharing your perspective, it was really nice to read. And I agree that great endings can be amazing, but don't they also feel kind of bittersweet? The bad guy is beaten up, maybe the main couple is now married... Journey is now over. When I don't finish shows, I feel like the characters are staying still in my mind. Still occupied with whatever they were doing somewhere.. This thought kind of gives me comfort that everything stays the same.
Aw, besides Ed and Roy? Hmm.. I think besides them, I love Riza as you mentioned, Winry and Al as well. Greed is really an interesting character, and although I can't understand his motives, I can't say that I hate him. I hate Envy thoughhh ugh. And there's this character, idk if you remember. He's from north and an Ishavalian, I think his name is Miles. I love him a lot for no reason, lol. And Roy is literally so cool. No actually, hot, lol.
I'd like to hear about the way you watch animes, though. Finishing almost all of the series you start is really impressive to me, I'd like to get some advices, lol.
Yeah, hopefully I'll complete it, lol T-T. I didn't want it to end, so I watched bits and bits daily, now I'm unable to continue lol. But I feel like it's definitely going to be a hit. Also, I know right, FMAB could be one of the shortest shounens here. Compared to... One Piece, Naruto, Bleach etc. I thinkk it's good. It really keeps you on your seat, and I feel like most characters are so sweet, I might have kind of gotten attached to them lol. When was it that you finished it?
I'm not sure about the arc but I guess I have like 14 episodes left to watch in FMAB. And I understand what you mean, their vibes are totally different! Nichijou is a bit unexpected and absurd? While FMAB feels really steady? I'm not really good with words but, yeah, lol.
yes i love em <3
Yass, nice taste. Steins;Gate is amazing. And I'm currently watching FMAB, it's probably going to be among my favs too when I finish it. Nichijou was super fun as well, although I have only seen a few episodes and scenes lol.
There are a few other music DBs out there (e.g. AOTY, Discogs, Last.fm), but I like RYM's interface and especially the extensive genre pages and all of the music videos they have. The tagging is also great, allowing me to easily filter by country and release type. If you do end up joining, you know where to find me.
Yeah, I decided now was the time, since I have some ideas for what to add to my extra favorite slots. Haha, well, it was more than Danmachi you could have changed (the top player didn’t even pick it), but it did turn out to be pretty good. To be honest, the reason I picked it was because I mistook it going up against Seirei Gensouki and not Shangri-La, which I didn’t even realize qualified till it had started. Too many fantasy/isekai series these days to keep track of, lol. My one bad pick was NegaPosi Angler, which I didn’t necessarily think had a great chance (originals are tough to predict), but considering Jellyfish did quite well last season and it's something I am personally interested in, I took a chance on it. I do have to credit where it's due and thank DarkEmperor for much of my success. While we did pick a few different titles, he was the one who encouraged me to participate in the first place and was reminding me each week about what to keep track of and how the score projections were looking. Here's hoping next season will go better!
I was actually an anime DB mod at Anime-Planet for a bit, so I did quite a bit of contributing there, including working on their guidelines. I also add some things on Rate Your Music, since I’m a fan of all types of music videos, and the process is relatively streamlined with the browser extension. I've only added two films to Letterboxd actually. It's nice that you don't need to have entries approved, but I really hate the poster dimension restrictions. Eventually I may submit some more things, but first I need to fully tag my films so I can add short films, which are currently just tracked in lists (I want to be able to filter them from features, like I can on MAL with tags).
That's just my (hopeful) speculation with them opening up to more co-productions/countries, but for all we know, they may never change, or even get worse. I will note that works from Taiwan and North Korea used to not be allowed and are now, so at least they did something positive.
I’m not exactly sure what you mean by the last question? I try to keep track of most things I can on MAL, Letterboxd, Rate Your Music, Trakt, and Goodreads, but of course there are things missing in these databases, so they'll either get added eventually, I'll track them in some note or a playlist, or not at all. It's impossible to share everything I've come across, since it's scattered about in different places and extremely disorganized, and honestly, there's a lot I've lost and forgotten about. Also, a lot of stuff I've come across I have yet to watch (I'm sure you can relate). So I try to archive what I can and get help from other users, but ultimately have to accept that some things will be lost to time because there's only so much you can reasonably do.

It ended up not quite at 38, since some of the videos reuse animation or are compilations, but it did have a good run for a commercial series. I really enjoyed watching them, so I'm glad you convinced me to finally check them out.
Aside from the other anime DBs (AniDB, Anilist, ect.) and general-purpose film/TV DBs (Letterboxd, IMDb, Trakt, ect.), there are a few out there just for animation. The biggest English-language one I know of is BCDB (https://www.bcdb.com/cartoons/), but its not really comparable to MAL. In terms of sheer size, Slocartoon (https://www.slocartoon.net/) is probably the best I know of. It's astonishing how much they have documented for such a small community (and mostly run by one person if I understand), but the website is a bit difficult to navigate and it's not well-known globally. Bangumi (https://bangumi.tv/anime), while not strictly an animation database, is probably closest to what I'd have in mind for MAL, where they have a specific section for animation that you can track everything in one place, while still being able to easily filter between different counties/continents if you only want to see Japanese works for example.
I think with the increase of co-productions, MAL is going to have to reconsider their guidelines at some point. Excluding Scott Pilgrim and The War of the Rohirrim is not really a promising sign of things to change, but if even more popular works come out, especially if their marketing team tries to partner with MAL for some promotion, they may be forced to add them. Realistically, I don't think MAL is ever going to open up to everything, but it would be really cool if they did and would certainly set them apart from the competition. I know it would take a lot of effort to backfill all the works which are missing, which is why I think its better to go about this gradually, for example, starting with being more lenient on co-productions and then open up to more of Asia. After all, there is still lot of stuff out there which does qualify and isn't documented yet, and I'd argue it's better to have a good database for your specialty, than an open, but largely lacking one.
You mean the Minimini CMs? Don't worry about it man, lol. Discussion is a good thing, as I have been wrong about things too, and as long as you're not actively submitting corrections that mess up entries, no harm no foul. Which by the way, all of the them have been found now if you wanted to watch them (sources in the thread).
I'm glad it's helpful! Researching and documenting works is a hobby of mine, so as long as I'm not fighting with the mods about some guideline, I enjoy it. Please feel free to send anything else you find my way or whatever it is you want to talk about. It's good to see from your Letterboxd that you appreciate animation from around the world. Now if only MAL would follow suit...

Here's a list of what I posted so far (all kinds of animation, some very poor, though) https://apocalyptichead.blogspot.com/p/cartoons.html#Cool%20animated%20music%20videos
Ah, I had watched and read a lot when I was a kid, and on my mid-late teens and early adult hood I barely watched/read anything, but for the last few years social media became unbearable with stupid politics and culture war stuff so it was great for me to step away from it, there were always a lot of stuff I wanted to watch and read, and I do that instead of mindlessly scrolling through some banality feed
