This anime caught me off guard. I was preparing to cancel my Hulu when I took one last look through the anime selections and saw this "original" series. Somehow I had missed it when it first came out, probably because it wasn't on my normal watch platforms and I figured it was not something that I could watch easily.

This isekai story is generic and uninspired — like most of them are these days. The main character is your typical OP protagonist, the supporting cast is a bit shallow, and the premise is standard fare.
However, I personally like light-hearted series like this one. It doesn't try to be edgy, or controversial. There is no deeply cringey content or repulsive narratives. And, even if they are a bit one-noted, most of the characters are likeable enough. With a few exceptions (i.e., Overlord) I prefer rooting for the 'good guys' and that is what you get with this show. I was initially saddened by the reviews that were coming out about this anime during its initial episodes. Lots of commentators seemed to believe that this was some gimmicky story about a murder-obsessed Chūnibyō finding love in a gullible girl who he sees as one of his victims.
In actuality, Ichikawa Kyoutarou is simply a social outcast, struggling to find an identity as he comes of age in a school where he is uncomfortable and distant from his peers.
