Go read the manga, then come back watch the anime just for some eye candy.
That's what I'd recommend you to do.

The manga is really good and deserves a read, and with that the anime is really rushed early and the first 6 episodes only covers about 15 chapters in manga, and it's currently on 150+ chapters.

Do yourself the favour read the manga use the anime as eye candy.
It will be a lot more enjoyable that way, I always this to people but, just read / watch original work first then anything else after.

It's the same with other works as well.
If it's an original anime like ... Evangelion watch that, don't read the manga first.
For "Enen no Shouboutai" read the manga first.

This is just my own view point, it's been working for years for me and I usually am not left disappointed.

It was good enough to make me tear up, that alone gives it a higher rating, and at the same time I feel like I watched this anime at the right time.

I especially enjoyed the premise that people can change through others, felt like this was executed quite well. I don't think there are many other contenders around the topic surrounding "living with dying" apart from (Your lie in April.)

Which is also a great show, but personally I just enjoyed this one a lot more.
The story is great it's not perfect but when you think about it nothing is perfect so just need ... to go off my personal enjoyment, and it was a 10, ignoring the general plot and focusing more on the premise of "changing through others" really helped me giving this a rating of 10.

The art is alright, better than most shows but It's a little different, especially the animation but I ended up growing to like it.

Though it's not treasure planet or a Kyoani production we are talking about here, that's why I ended up giving the Art a rating of 8

The characters were well done, I don't want to speak much on this but they were memorable and that's what's most important to me personally, especially the fact that they grew through interacting with each other. Rating of 9

Enjoyment was 9, some scenes could of been done a little differently I feel but overall I really enjoyed the anime, and that's why I gave it a 10.

As for a comparison I enjoyed the show slightly less than "The Shape of a Voice" but more than "Your Name," also enjoying it more than "Your lie in April" I really feel like the show is a weak 10.
