First of all, this is my one of my favorite anime of this season so far. I've watched : Bannana Fish, Cell anime, Dropkick-chan, Chio-Chan, Asobi Asobase, Angels of death and Angolmois.
Hanebado, Attack on titan and Grand Blue
This anime however stood out very much for me. Don't listen to all the " This Anime is for edgy 12 year olds" etc... spam. They are obviously the immature ones (with awful taste I might add...). This Anime is a perfect blend of Mystery/Suspense/Horror with warm cute shoujo. And no, this is NOT a Yuri anime, however much it seems like.
*Story/Premise: Is about a broken
...
girl struggling to live a normal and happy life with a person who showed her true love (caring love not sexual) for the first time ever in her life, under the harshness and unfairness of life and the people in it. This show has the cuteness of slice of life and moe anime, mixed and executed perfectly with dark/mystery and Horror. It'll give you the chills a badass anime with amazing Mikasa eyes does but also give you the warm sweet sugar feeling that a slice of life does. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
What this anime does phenomenally:
- Characters and their psych
-Tension /Atmosphere
-Unique loveable Art style
-Mystery that is especially dark
- Satou is Yandere Queen! (Sorry Yuno)
For me this has great great potential and might even become one of my personal top favorite anime. I'm in Japan rn for a vacation, and once I saw this, Oh hot damn I knew I had to get the manga fast.

Alright, B:The Beginning is right off the bat one of the anime underdogs of this season. It coming out with all episodes doesn't help its case either cus at least from what I know ppl, including me, like to keep up with airing shows rather than watch complete ones and binge.
However, this anime totally deserves more recognition! While definitely not the cream of the crop this season, it most surely is an above average watch and I enjoyed it a lot. Buuut there are flaws in this, flaws that kinda leave me hesitant to finish the show due to fear of it ending badly or
...
with important questions being left unanswered.
8/10 Setting: The setting in this anime is unorthodox, it's set in a sci fi age but in a medieval-like and modern culturural society. This in of itself is pretty neat, and I like the vibes the setting gives off what with the sci fi and fantasy intermixed. Best of both worlds in a nutshell. However so far not much is said about how and why the world works, which is fine, good anime don't have to flesh everything out word for word (ex. Girls last tour). But I feel as if something is missing in its worldbuilding, I am not set in stone, or immersed in the world as fully as I would be like in the world of Darling in the Franxx.
10/10 Characters: The characters and interactions in this show are one of the best I've seen in anime. Truly amazing. The comedy is actually funny and it makes use of different methods in presenting it. It balances the anime trope of exaggeration, which we all know and love, with subtle humor which is just as hilarious (ex. Chicken gumbo scene in ep.10; Lily's car).
The characters are not just varied in personality but in age too. There are lots of anime out there that does this but at the same time there are more which sacrifice the story and overall execution just for good looking characters and popular stereotypical personalities. The characters bounce off each other just right, not sacrificing realistic, relatable comedy/interactions that is well built up to, in place of plain slapstick humor.
6/10 Story: The story in this show is pretty complicated due to the three perspectives we get and the hidden ulterior motives behind each ones. The story as a whole completely disregards the actual world its set place in. B: forms and progresses its story while disregarding the lore of the world and how it works. In result you get a weirdly bad/good executed anime b/c it does good on the stuff if works on but has an F for the things it disregards because it's still an important part of the whole. The whole story with Koku is additionally not executed and fleshed out right and not enough either. It lacks creativity and sensibility. The timing in which they introduce his story is also not well paced. Koku is a MC, but that's not what it feels like. His entire story development is messy and feels rushed due to him being finally properly introduced at like ep. 6. I feel nothing for Koku and his motives etc... But am more attached to the RIS cast because of obvious reason. This is not good because the entire show revolves around Koku and his story, but because this was not executed right the rest of the show, which was executed properly, suffers and falls alongside it.
TL;DR:
B:The Beginning is an above average watch which I am currently enjoying a lot. This is due to its amazing cast of characters and their interactions with each other, as well as their daily life and the overall mystery/crime/action direction it takes. However, it has noticeable flaws and its story execution suffers from 50% good 50% bad.
This show honestly would have been better off without Koku's side of the story/perspective and the whole demigod thing. A RIS focused story with a seinen, mystery, and action directed plot in a sci fi fantasy world would have been IMO the way to go.
This anime mainly suffers from Overcomplication, which in turn bred a poorly fleshed out and developed 2nd part of the story due to it shining light on a lot of features in that section of the story but in a rushed manner and it uses this poorly put together story and makes it the center point by having the 1st half revolve around it. Which unfortunately brings the 1st half down with the second as a whole.
EDIT: (Finished watching all 12 episodes)
Wow... They actually let Koku and Yuna live... This anime is legit confirmed to have no balls whatsoever. The fact that no one died from the things they were obviously supposed to die from is pitifully laughable.
Story is decent, characters and setting are phenomenal, but...
Dear God the Koku and Yuna crap is horrible. Not an inch of good development for them and the ending was so cheesey and syerotypical. Was rooting for Minatsuki the entire time, that's how uninterested I was with this show's second MC, Koku and friends. This show is an example when shows have a bad MC, and sacrifice execution and good plot for crappy drama and Disney aspects.

OK, now I will admit this show I did not see coming and therefore stumbled on it a wee bit late but now that I've caught up on 10 episodes I have to say this : Wasted Potential Anime of the Season
The setting of the show, the sci fi aspects, the characters (minus hiro and zero two, but I'll get to that later) and the art are all a cut above. BUT... alongside grave flaws...
SETTING: This for me was well made and I was digging the vibe the show was setting, also I have a weak spot for sci fi stuff so it was
...
that much better. Even the mecha aspect was awesomely made, and I don't like mecha (who does?, seriously). Worldbuilding in this anime is absolutely phenomenal! I myself am taking inspiration from this into my own story that I'm making, so yes its that good.
CHARACTERS: All of the characters are all executed Exellently, they all feel like real people with their own weird quirks, likes and dislikes.I especially love Ichigo imo. I was invested and understood the character's reasoning for things, that is, minus zero two and Hiro. This brings us to problem #1 of the two reasons the show falls flat. Their entire relationship is based on that one encounter in the beginning. They have absolutely Zero (haha) reason of liking each other, especially Hiro who as of episode 4 confirmed that he does not give a crap about his friends but only wants to "ride" Zero two. As is shown and received at least by me, is that he's only physically attracted to her. Oh and don't mention the fact that she tried to kill your teammate (albeit he's a douch but still :/) Zero two on the other hand needs much more development in general. As of right now she is just a self absorbed, sadistic evil piece of trash. She needs much more development b/c this is all that is shown off her character which is very ugly imo (I'm looking at you zero two fanatics). If they give actual explanation and reasoning for her personality and actions and why she is who she is I feel like I would actually like her alot. Hiro on the other hand is a trash generic overlypraised MC (praised by the characters) whose decisions and actions rival those in a cheesey horror flick.
STORY: At first the show shows no sense of direction really and it's pacing was pretty abysmal what with jumping from scene to scene with no explanation or context as to what happened either in the scene before or the scene currently taking place. However this only applies for roughly eps 2-6. After which the story starts taking actual legit form and depth showing the mysteries of the world the cast lives in and the darkness in the plantation led by papa and friends. 7-10 Here the anime starts to raise and form questions for the audience to think about which entices immersion with genuine curiosity and of course, hype. The actual story in Darling in the Franxx has a dark tone which is hidden underneath the lighthearted interactions and basic mecha battles or cast is experiencing. So I expect a full on change in tone soon which would be excellent.
*** It's important to note that the flashback scenes do not make any sense in the least. The one with Goro and Ichigo was all plot convenience and horribly layed out. The scene with loud guy being left behind also in the 9th or 10th episode was extremely laughable plot convenience as well. Basically this anime loves its plot conveniences sometimes at the cost of the actual story. Which is sad. And the main reason it flunked out of being AOTS badly.
TL;DR:
The "WHY" is the second most important aspect in getting at least people like me invested in a show. Second to the "HOW". This show is pretty bad at both, but scrapes a high 7 for me b/c of its setting, art, characters (minus zero two and especially Hiro), and overall general story.
The over the top Zero Two idolizing (basically the worse version of Mikasa su casa-ing) is especially hard to take in what with her character being so underdeveloped. It's like they forcing you to like her without actually giving reason to
Last thing, show is extremely cheesy and cringe at some parts, this is all due to the Hiro and zero two scenes. And very predictable.
Zero two is a disgusting "human being" I honestly hate how Hiro "loves" her and sticks up for her even though she is shown to be heartless and inhumane. She would honestly be a really good villain because she is a trash M.C and waifu tbh.
***Also Please note that in every friggin' Klaxasaur invasion the facility and people in them don't give a hot damn! In episode 1 they literally stood there ready to all die when streikleiza was out of action. Like, they should assume she's not getting back up to save the day, Move your ass and get to your Battle stations shoot the hell out of the thing or at the very least GTFO!
