Hearing what I've heard from manga readers about how the show is garbage, I can't say that I'm not shocked. If such a good show pales in contrast to the manga then I should DEFINITELY check the manga out.
I didn't really notice the fast pace at first but now looking back I can notice it clearly.
They left out answers to many questions that I had wondering, like why Ray carved the writing onto the tree trunk, why the Mujika has the evil blood, what happened the first time Mujika and Vilk met, why Sonju drank the evil blood and if he changed his mind about

eating humans (Seriously! What was that part where he talked about eating people for!?!??!), the part where they ran from the camp after being attacked and the pursuers were just.... eaten? Adult humans with implied combat experience couldn't stop that demon but some kids who knew next to nothing about demons could could kill him without issue? How does that work?) etc.
Another problem with the plot was that it felt everything was solved too easily. Issues that came up in one episode were solved in like two seconds in the next episode. The cure for the drug, most notably, was solved in a.... very disappointingly simple way.
As for the characters, the other kids from Grace Field had their personalities fleshed out and became more than just side characters. Thomas and Lannion for instance were excellently scripted. Phil remains as loveable as ever. The main human antagonist (Peter Ratri) was a very intriguing and charismatic character with very good potential but his appearance and demise a few episodes later was disappointing to say the least. More could have been done. The show also introduces new demon characters, some villains, some heroes. They aren't portrayed in a black-or-white way and their characters are actually rather humanized, not just the flesh-obsessed monsters they were in the first season.
The three main characters, Ray, Emma, and Norman; I can't say much positive about their development. You know how in Season 1 Ray was acting all smug about how he knew way more about the demons than the rest of the kids? Well yeah it's the same thing now but with Norman instead.
Norman went from going Eren Yaeger on the demons to Season 1 Norman in a few minutes, I mean I'm glad Vilk and his granddaughter weren't killed but the conversation between Norman and Emma/Ray should have taken some more time and they should have emphasized the suffering of the demons more in that episode (not that it was portrayed badly, the opposite in fact). Would have driven a wedge into the watcher's emotions. Norman's sudden change of heart could have been more convincing. However his character development aside from that is handled pretty smoothly.
Emma hasn't changed much at all, but to be perfectly honest I don't have too much problem with that. A little more character development would have been ok but I'm satisfied with her current personality.
It's Ray I'm disappointed about, he's been pretty much demoted to like a side character now, he had perfect potential for character development, if I was him I would spend every day and night thinking about how I'd betrayed my own siblings to the demons, and my guilt/conscience would effect my actions very strongly. But he just waves it off like nothing happened, he doesn't really do anything as important as he does in Season 1. What a let down.
The music and audio were beautiful, even better than the first season, and the production quality was top-notch. On that I can give the producers 10/10.
The ending episode is the only thing I felt angry about, ending the series with a slide show, just for that the director deserves to be sent to the farms, what evil person do you have to be to do that. An entire possible third season stomped on and ruined. And I have too many questions about how exactly they fit into the human world, I was thinking the humans on the other side would see the farm children as corrupted by demons or something along those lines, or that something terrible had happened to the human world.
Overall despite this number of complaints I think the season is still beautifully done. Overall Season 2 was an 8/10 IMO. The best part of the show was with Norman attacking the demon village and his encounter with Vilk (the most well done demon character).
I recommend this show to anime onlies. I plan to read the manga soon so I can see what I've been missing out.
