Report Foirelle's Profile

Hi randos, you can call me Foire for short, if you feel so inclined. I watch dub or sub depending on the anime and VAs involved so sub-litists can go back to the dark corner where they belong. Lilligant pic is by me from my Miiverse days...

As for my background, I've been watching anime since I was a child. Yes, like the typical kid born in the late 90s', it all started with 4Kids who dubbed various anime in English, like Pokémon, Cardcaptor Sakura, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, among many others. I also watched anime on VHS tapes, some being the aforementioned, but also included classics like Sailor Moon, Kiki's Delivery Service (my absolute favorite Studio Ghibli film), and Digimon.

Later on, around 2007-2008 or so when my parents got satellite television through DirectTV, I'd also watch Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, and Disney, that of which included Toonami when they'd air InuYasha and Fullmetal Alchemist. Only the true OGs would remember the good ol' days of watching Netflix through a disc they'd send through the mail, and getting the version that'd play on the Nintendo Wii though. I don't remember if that happened before my parents got DirectTV or right after, but all I know is that we didn't have a Wii on release since it was sold out for a while (maybe got it Xmas 2007?).

Anyway, that's what really made me get into anime since shows like Sgt. Frog, School Rumble, and Clannad were available on Netflix in full. I watched them dubbed initially, though I'm sure sub was available too. Either way, the accessibility enabled me to watch such works with my younger brother and my older brother, occasionally with my second oldest sister. Then when Dragon Ball Z Kai aired on Nickelodeon, that's when my brothers got the original DVD boxsets of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. That was one hell of a ride, I tell ya. Getting access to the internet, especially through a laptop and definitely not by using the janky Wii Internet Browser app, or DSi or 3DS versions of said app, definitely expanded my horizons more on the kind of anime I could watch... 🌊⛵🏴‍☠️

In college, I definitely slowed down my TV watching as I didn't have time to, what with studying taking up virtually all of my free time, and video games taking up the rest of it. I watched basically everything there was on TV at the time anyway (everything from food, to home remodeling, gameshows, to How It's Made and Mythbusters, among many, many others), so after HxH's English dub aired on Toonami for a while, I stopped watching cable altogether. Though one thing happened around that time, that being dating my now-fiancée! He wasn't into anime, other than a couple of Studio Ghibli films (like the total normie he was), until a couple years into our relationship. He got started on anime older than Dragon Ball (I think that's the oldest anime I've seen at the time, not including Kimba by a technicality since I only saw the 1997 film), aka Macross, of all things. :P Still, it allowed me to FINALLY watch anime with him, including the classics (what I've seen that's great and rewatchable) and "new" shows, whether they're currently airing or they're several years old, shit I haven't seen yet but have heard about in one way or another.

Fast forward to today, I watch anime on a more consistent basis now, though still not as much as I did as a kid. Working does take up a good part of my week, ya know. Still, helps to have a partner to watch the good, and the bad, alongside with, as well to rewatch any of the primo anime. Also helps that we can buy any subscription services or Blu-rays to watch said anime at virtually anytime, as to limit sailing the high seas.

TL;DR to those with low attention spans:
I started watching anime on 4Kids, VHS tapes then DirectTV, Netflix disc on the Wii, with that and Toonami being the main sources until I got my own laptop to browse the internet with. College slowed down rate of viewing anime, now back to it again since graduating. I've watched anime with my siblings, now I watch stuff with my fiancée.

Currently, I am trying to "complete" the series I have seen before, as in watching sequel seasons, OVAs, specials, shorts, or movies, recap or not, as to never have to wonder what the hell this or that random thing was about when looking back upon a series. Wish me luck finding them, especially online for the more obscure ones, as some have been released through very arbitrary means (sub or dub, Idc as long as I can watch it lol).

Oh, and don't mind some stuff getting added by pure random, I probably just remembered an old anime I forgot to add upon creating this account (I wasn't kidding when I said I watched a lot as a kid). I don't mark "rewatches", or how many times I've seen an anime (too much to mark imo), but I do change any I've marked as "complete" to "watching" when I watch it properly in full. That's because I know I've seen most of the show on TV, just not in order, and I probably missed watching some episodes somewhere (ex. Naruto and Bleach).
