I am probably an outlier of most people that watch this show in that I have only just watched season 1 like 1 year ago. So I can say with confidence that the first season seems better by a magnitude than this one. Maybe it's because too many characters where introduced in a too short amount of time. Or the relationship between Emi and Maou seemed to progress in a forced way because of the baby they randomly got. As the series exists for quite some time you'll inevitably catch up something about it when engaging in the anime community.
About the feeling the show evoked – it was generally very entertaining and so over-the-top that it balanced between ridiculous and dreadful so that it kept up your mood on a overly pleasant level. SPOILERS It was much more unpredictable (at least at the beginning) that I'd thought. Somehow when thinking about Another, before starting the show, Misaki Mei was etched in my mind to be this evil girl that's the killer of the show. To be fair; I've only watched 2 Episodes of this.
SPOILERS The Main Protagonist wants to become a hero to help his village. He parts from his 2 best friends on the way to his quest. When he reaches the main capital where he intended to get a job he gets robbed. He then is found and taken in by a rich girl.
