I was instantly struck by their similarities. I suppose Fruits Basket vaguely does have something to do with food, but it's more analogical, and anyway, that's not the point. At first glance, both are typical, fluffy, mindless, shoujo manga, but as you read, they become something much more. Fruits Basket and Kitchen Princess are both beautifully illustrated, heart-warming stories that will make you laugh, cry, and feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside, about a ridiculously cheerful, optimistic albeit clueless orphaned heroine, an oranyan and a beautiful student council president who seems way too perfect. The oranyan and the beautiful student council president don't get along that well, either. And they're related. Okay, there are way too many similarities. Is this normal? Yuki isn't the student council president until farther along in the story, but whatever. If you adored Kitchen Princess, you'll love Fruits Basket even more!
