Frieren's character of popularity and it's supossed hype online(where else lol) is just polemics

Acting like it's the most unique thing ever when its shit you've already seen a thousand times, be it the setting or the archetypes(nobody gives a fuck about stark compared to zenitsu)

It's special and risktaking when it's an adaptation of a popular manga in the one of the largest shonen manga ... magazine

'it's been decided that its good' yeah, man, there's no difference between something being considered good and something being considered great(especially in this context)

Somehow Frieren hasn't gotten the 'carried by animation' tag when you compare number of favorites of the characters. (deserves it way more than kimetsu and jujutsu)
but personally it has added factor for me as a german speaker that the names are really irritating.
Frieren having great animation is a plus, pretty much every other series of its caliber its a negative and or not something to talk about

The Fanbase acting like it has no fanservice and battleshit(end of the season is a litterally an exam arc and it contributed to it's popularity) the fights often lack any meaning or interesting buildup likestark fighting the dragon. Something that lots of anime do better. but for some reason so many people don't seem to care, being dazzled by the animation, while at the same time acting as if frieren is so much better than other anime that are just ''mindless action.''

The Storybeats don't matter. you people are so formalistic.

Characterization of the demons (Apparently it doen't matter)(The fanbase are just going throw insult at you when you question it P.S. :)) like halting their evolution,so they are just do dumb stuff pose no threat whatsoever.
Oh yeah, and this biological determinism stuff,(I didn't think about it because it's just the first season), which makes it worser show for attracting Fascist filth until further notice unlike attack on titan.
Frieren being worldbreaking overpowered with no drawbacks, so basically a Mary Sue (so much best female character of all time (I don't know the discourse)), like her sister Xiaomao (don't let another character even hinted being that, especially if you're an isekaiprotagonist, you're already in the drawer)
Constant Fakeouts (people are okay with that too), presenting this setting as super dangerous, in the exam, for example acting like 5000 people are gonna die. Introducing Übel and Wirbel (had to look up his name) as psychos who are definitely gonna kill a bunch. Not only do they not. Just one person dies(in a flashback lol, ironically and comically so)(i Think people died in the forest exam too, but i don't remember, so it wasn't that important, people dying in the demon attacks is also not important)
Characters expression are all the same and emotionlessness (general dullness) Himmel (from the good side) sticks out being pompous, narcissistic, curious(you know having various emotions), compared to this dull world and character cast. (Could have been funny if they used it for comedic purposes as well but no it has to be extremely generic stuff you've seen a dozen times cuz muh general audience.)

Emotionless and expressionlessness is also why I don't think it works as a pure Iyashikei either (but it isn't, I'm just sayin it for people who want it to be just that)


As I already said it doesn't matter
Compared to its contemporaries, Kusuriya, which I considered better in the first half (it's just became boring and MAomao is a literal mary sue), and dungeon meshi, which just fares better in it's level of poularity, it causes too much commotion.

Because it's a blop in the top anime page.
Won't live up to expectations. An okay show, which somehow ended up with people collectively clumping into it a masterpiece that it isn't real.
Being Number 1 on MAL, especially with that comical gap, is not going to bring much value or make it transcendent (nor did it for all other entries that reached this milestone, they were already before like gintama or fruits basket or they never were like kaguya-sama). But I guess it's a classic (for being the most popular of the year, well it's actually Oshi no Ko but you don't see people with supposed high standards spamming 10/10 or corrected their ratings upwards for it).

Sousou no Frieren is contradictive between its presentation(well-animated 'to your eternity') and meta-context(being considered best of all-time, claiming everybody who objects to it likes battle shonen (frieren is full of battles) and are 'FMA fans', having pretentious and gaslighting fanbase (something they accuse FMA 'fans' to be) and considering it unique and anti-meta and so on)
And it's correcting course is going to take 2-3 years or with season 2 coming it never will

Even though it's a negative review I still put at 'mixed feelings' because the pretty colors are enough to add to the vibe and atmosphere to watch it htrough
