Ah, the Nasuverse. What a horrible place filled with murder, rape, war, and suicide. God knows what was going on in the head of the person who thought up Carnival Phantasm. God knows what he was thinking when he decided to make a light hearted comedy featuring the nasuverse. I just want to say this one thing to the man who thought up Carnival Phantasm. You sir, are a genius.
Now, to start off this review let's start with the story. The story.... is pretty much non existent. It's pretty much the characters of the Nasuverse, Fate/stay night and Tsukihime in particular, meeting and dicking around.
...
They engage in cooking, volleyball, and Grand Prix. Now, If you have never played any of the Visual Novels in the nasuverse, chances are you won't get most of the jokes in Carnival Phantasm. Nearly all the jokes are inside jokes, meaning you have to have played a Nasuverse Visual Novel to get them. Each episodes are filled with Easter Eggs and cameos. In other words, this anime is pure non-sexual Fanservice. Although, there is some sexual fanservice here and there.....
I, personally love the art in this anime. It's bright and cheerful. The opposite of what fans of the Nasuverse are used to. Sure, there are a few animation hiccups here and there, but most of the time it's perfect. The sound is top notch as well. The music is addictive, and the seiyuus fit their characters perfectly. And, trust me. You'll be replaying the opening over, and over, and over again. Hell, I'm listening to the opening as I'm typing up this review!
My most favorite part of Carnival Phantasm is the characters. All the characters in this anime are lovable. From the sadistic Gilgasmesh to the unlucky Ke-...er.. I mean Lancer. This time around there are three new Neko Arcs. If you don't know what a Neko Arc they are the mascots of Carnival Phantasm. The original Neko Arc.... named Neko Arc is the mascot of Type-Moon and is a cat girl parody of Arcueid, The female protagonist of the Visual Novel, Tsukihime.
Now, did I enjoy this anime? Yes. Very much in fact. Each episode had me laughing, which is rare for a anime to do so, and In some episodes I was in tears. Although, if you don't have the patience to play a Nasuverse Visual Novel, then you should pass on this anime. If you are a fan of the Nasuverse and Type-Moon, then you need... no MUST watching this anime. I don't care if you are already watching something, put it on hold and watch this anime now!
....are you watching it?
