- Similar absurdist comedy. - Both anime somewhat pretend to be cutesy-sweet at a very surface-level glance.

- Both of them focus on a virtual world that is usually accessed by uploading one's consciousness via some kind of headset interface. - Surprisingly, both of them also address the theme of "uploading" one's consciousness online and the dangers and consequences that may come from it.

Tenkuu no Escaflowne

- Both are mecha, though obviously Escaflowne's mecha elements are oriented to fantasy. - War and peace are significant primary themes in both series. - Both have somewhat broody dark-haired pretty boy male protagonists. They both have some kind of angelic theme. They both have similar character development paths, and both of their character development paths are heavily influenced by the female protagonist. - Both have peace-loving female protagonists who are significant to the plot, and both of which become protected by said dark-haired protagonists. - Romance is a significant element in both stories, and serves as an important device for the character development of the male and female characters. At the same time, the romance is nuanced enough to not overpower and draw away focus from the overall story. The parallels between the two series' set of protagonists are very similar in general.

Eiken: Eikenbu yori Ai wo Komete

Both anime have panty barrages and often joke around with that sort of thing (subtly or not so subtly), although Eiken is a lot more over the top for obvious reasons, and Najica a fair bit more subtle and handles its main plot a lot more seriously. If you found Eiken genuinely funny and weren't put off by the perverted aspects of the show; I believe you'd find Najica just as great from a comedic viewpoint.

The styles of comedy in each of these are very similar in the sense that they're quite bizarre and silly. They also have similar settings and premises. Plastic Nee-san is rather short (has 12 2-minute episodes), so Asobi Asobase is a great choice if one is looking for something very similar but more substantial in terms of quantity, although -ignoring quantity- Plastic Nee-san's jokes may be a tiny bit more humorous overall.

Both have competing magical girls who are close friends, and both have stories that start off quite relaxed but eventually become heavier and more intense as they near their ends.
