Both shows have a number of important similarities despite having opposite and completely different themes with Sangatsu being more light-hearted compared to BokuMachi's serious content. The male protagonists wear eye-glasses and tend to be silent or serious. They have their own dark and trouble pasts that often keeps on haunting them and they have to face them before moving on. They have friends who are ready to support them when they are sad and troubled. Aside from characters, there is also symbolism portrayed on both shows. If you like Sangatsu No Lion but want a more serious twist, then I recommend watching BokuMachi.

Both shows focus on people who were born with or acquired special abilities. Both main protagonists of each show had dark and sad pasts and they're trying to overcome them by stopping those who abuse their special abilities and saving those who posses similar powers also from normals and their fellow people. They also had bad encounters and experiences with scientists who want to experiment their abilities. Anyway, what makes both of these shows different from each other is that in Charlotte their abilities are temporary until they reach a certain part of their life when it is no longer there while on the other hand, the potential Minimum Holders in Hamatora have to have their abilities tested or have their triggers identifies to be recognize with such position or title.

The highlight of both show's main similarities are centered around the main protagonists: They are willing to do wrong to achieve things which are right to them. They have a dark past which constantly taunt them. They are emotionless when it comes to violence. They use aliases but their true names are unknown. They are terrorists in the eyes of society. Other than that, both shows somehow touch on society's problems but also involve conspiracy plots. They are also dark. Of course, the visuals are nice in both of these shows. When it comes to differences, however, DtB is more fast-paced in action and has more characters to fill in the plot of the show while ZnT is more cryptic, more realistic as well as having few characters which are important enough to set the whole story in motion.

NTHT and MSG-V are both set in a Crapsack World. Both shows are loaded well with emotional, dramatic, depressing, tragic and tearjerking scenes. Comedy is also present but slighty although the latter tends to be unexpected. Interestingly, there are many similarities between both shows' MC: -both are innocent children who would later become child soldiers. -both are in one way or another tend to be punched or abused by their superiors. -both are confident, strong-willed and ready to save everyone they love. -both face death around them with people being killed, tortured, dying, etc... -both have heroines who possess some kind of psychic powers. -both have tyrants who are obsessed with the heroines' powers. There are differences though like the former having a realistic depiction of war, exploitation, oppression and chaos while the latter has 'Kill em all' element present in a couple of episodes. Of course, mecha is highly absent in NTHT.

MSG Victory and Bokurano both feature children as mecha pilots. They are forced to face the reality of saving the world from invaders with the former being attacked by a spaceborne empire and the latter being parallel Earths. The main difference is only one mecha is available for a particular Earth while MSG Victory of course being part of the Gundam metaseries features many. Also, both shows feature tragedy, sadness, depression, the relationship between relatives, friends and families and some level of comedy. All in all, both shows feature one infamous feature and that is called 'KILL EM ALL' wherein one or more characters are killed after the other. However, the hope is not lost since both shows ended with some kind of a happy ending.

If you like an anime with a similar angel-demon themed plot, then i recommend this show for you minus the ecchi. Also, both red-hair heroines are voiced by Yoko Hikasa.
