Waltraute-san no Konkatsu Jijou is a romantic comedy light novel based around Norse mythology, and let me take this out of my sistem first, the fact that it revolves around Norse mythology is probably the more interesting aspect of it (not really original since it's not the first work that does it, but I don't care for originality anyway), but depending on how much respect you have for that mythology you might dislike how it portraits it. You see even knowing that this a comedy and of course is taking inspiration on those legends and is not trying to be a faithful adaptation, there might ... be times when the change is so big or the way it is is just so "weeb" that it can cause annoyance. Again this depends on how much respect you have for those legends (and taking into account that not too many people are into Norse mythology, it's not that big of a deal), in my case it just happened with Odin, because he's so lame here (like really lame), but in the end it's just a detail.

Now talking about the novel in general, the characters are ok, I don't know how else to say it, they fill their role, they're enjoyable, their interactions are nice and sometimes hilarious, their design is pretty good, but at the end this is just one volume, so there's not that much time to grow fond of them too much, even when talking about the protagonists, and talking about the protagonists. Elvan (whose name we won't hear much often, so he's referred as the boy), he's a shota and many of the jokes and chemistry with characters revolves around that and the innocence he displays, but at least he shines more the last 2 chapters, take that as you want, and Waltraute, she's a Tsundere, yeah, she definitely shines more when accompanied by other characters. Again simple characters that don't need much else for the kind of story it is.

The comedy is based around the situation and meta-humour, you know the kind where the own characters make mentions to the fact that they are in a fiction work, like the movies of The Muppets.
This is probably the best aspect of the novel, the situations that get get out of here are genuinely funny.

As an extra the art looks pretty good, the designs for the gods are really nice and the few illustrations are great, so that's a point. The prose is functional, but since I read a traduction made by other person I'll limit myself to say that.

So, should you read this thing?

It's literally just a Vol. You read it in some hours, nothing this short I would call a waste of time, yeah read it if you feel interested.
