Okay, for those who are reading, this is a positive review...I'm going to be as objective as possible, but I really enjoyed Mirai Nikki, and hope this (rather long) review will motivate you to watch this awesome piece.
Story: 9/10
The story had a fresh concept: a battle royale where 12 people with "Future Diaries," diaries that can predict the future, fight to become the god of their world. Each diary had its strengths and weaknesses, which meant that the fight that ensued was unpredictable and kept you anticipating each and every character's next move. You were left to anticipate what ways our main characters, Amano Yukiteru
...
and Gasai Yuno, would use to outsmart the other diary users. In addition, altough some characters were killed off quite abruptly, a lot of the more important scenes were done very well, flooding the viewer with a lot of emotion, often bringing them on the verge of tears.
Art: 7/10
I'm not a very artistic person, but I felt that the art was quite average. However, the anime sometimes surprised me by providing unexpectly well-drawn and detailed scenes, which surely cannot hurt your enjoyment of the anime.
Sound: 8/10
I think the OP and ED were appropriate and the soundtrack did a good job of conveying the mood of each situation. It was pretty subtle, but you could still feel it's presence and it amplified the particular mood every time.
Character: 10/10
I think character development was where Mirai Nikki really shined.
The main characters were Amano Yukiteru, a shy boy who always acted as a bystander, and Gasai Yuno, who is obsessed with Yuki. However, unlike your expectations, these two were not necessarily the protagonists of the series. Although they were the main characters, their actions were not necessarily good and often blurred the line between good and evil. In Mirai Nikki no one was really evil (well, except one). As the anime provides the back stories to each character, you will begin to see that these characters were not affected by evil motives, but rather, were affected by their hurtful past. Each character's back story demonstrates every evil of man you can possibly think of, jealousy, hate, violence, lust, and many others. This helped you sympathize with each and every character, and as I said before, brought forth a lot of emotional scenes.
Enjoyment/ Overall: 10/10
With its great characters and plot that was full of twists and turns, Mirai Nikki successfully delivers. I was constantly kept on the edge of my seat, and was brought close to tears more often than ever before. The deep characters, and their emotionally touching back stories enrich the plot, helping you get more and more involved in the storyline. Even until the end, I was constantly kept on the edge, and the ending was hands down, was the most touching and beautiful scene I had ever seen. Mirai Nikki not only provides you with a good piece of mystery/ thriller, but provides you with a lot of emotional drama as well, making it one of the best thriller anime out there.
(This was my first review. I would appreciate any feedback (even if you didn't like it) on how I can make it better. Thank you for taking your time to read my review)
