This is my first review, I’m not sure if I’m doing it right but there is a first time in everything though. I figured I’ll just do my first review on this to express how much I love this anime. I feel like I haven’t put too much effort in writing this, but I just really wanted to write the things I love about this and I just wanted to go straight to the point and get the gist of it. :D
Love Stage has been one of the few shows I have rewatched back when I started watching anime. Honestly, it’s one of the
...
reasons I have been hooked with this type of genre as well. Sure, I have already watched some good BLs after this, but here are some of the reasons why Love Stage has persisted to be at the top of my list!
STORY
I don’t need to further narrate what the story is all about, and all I’m gonna say about it is it’s interesting. We can safely say that at the beginning, Izumi was the odd one out of the family but I’m glad he didn’t stay that way. Story was not rushed and I felt like the flow was not too slow either. They started at discovery, to friends and to realizing their true feelings with each other. Just the right blend of romance. Also, I love how comedic this is and how the voice actors were on point with the dialogues.
ART
Love Stage has a really distinctive art style. The way the characters were drawn gives a certain charm and adds so much to their character, over all, I really loved the art style in this anime and I feel calm whenever I watch it.
SOUND
I really enjoyed listening to the OP and ED. Whenever it comes up, I can’t help but jam with it. It’s such a good mood type of anime song that I have to mention it lol.
CHARACTERS
Izumi – He’s an introvert who likes being alone and left in his own devices. To be honest, I find him annoying sometimes but at the same time, I also understand him as well – in an introvert’s perspective. I love his innocence but I feel somehow sad about his naivety. Although he did somehow become more aware in the future, he was the kind of person who does not really consider what others feel and just cares about how he likes doing this, how he does not like doing that. I loved how he explored things and it reminded me of a child who is just discovering a new world. Although Izumi started as a stubborn an person, I loved his character development and how he came to accept himself and his love for Ryouma :’)
Ryouma – This guy man. This guy is the epitome of loyalty that it makes me sad how unrealistic it is! Imagine being loyal to someone for 10 whole years without even knowing their true self. But on a serious note, I really admire how loyal he is to Izumi and even after finding out his true identity, although he was confused, he still accepted the fact that he genuinely has feelings for this man who he thought was a woman. It may be a typical eye roll to see how much effort Ryouma is exerting just for Izumi, it’s a relief for me how this just shows how genuine his feelings for Izumi is.
Shougo, the obsessive brother and Rei, the manager – To be honest, I was not even shocked when the anime revealed later on that they were partners. I was ecstatic! How ironic is that lol. I haven’t read the manga before but their tandem makes me want to read it just to find out more stories about this two. One thing that I really admire that the both of them do was on how they dote so much on Izumi and how they take really good care of him. They genuinely care about Izumi’s well-being and will only want what’s best for him. Shougo as a brother is very supportive and spoils Izumi a lot, but the same goes with Rei I guess lol.
Nagisa, the Mother and Seiya, the Father – To be completely honest, I never liked the mother, Nagisa because she strikes me as a self-centered narcissistic. I don’t hate her, I just also understand how that can be her character considering she’s a famous actress and is well known for her beauty. But the husband is a gem! Always telling her she’s beautiful and full of compliments left and right. Honestly! Is he never running out of compliments? I loved watching their short moments that show how he loves her. He’s a really good husband to her, that’s all I gotta say :’)
Miyabi Saotome, The Author of Lala-Lulu – I was already satisfied with how much eye candy this anime was giving me. But when the author was introduced? I went ballistic! I’m a real sucker for ikemen and well, it made me happy seeing him. And I literally called it when I find out Izumi’s club mate, Kuroi was an assistant of his. And when I watched the OVA, I just knew and I’m like, “I knew it! I knew it!”
VOICE ACTORS
No doubt, one of the reasons I enjoyed this anime so much was because of its voice actors. The way they interacted with each other and their dialogues makes me laugh out loud no matter how many times I watch it. Izumi’s exaggeration and Ryouma’s needy voice. Shougo’s annoying but very soft voice really pulls my heart strings, Rei’s bossy voice adds up so much to his attitude and his annoyance to Izumi (when necessary) really shows and I can’t help but laugh at it.
ENJOYMENT/OVERALL
Overall, I really really enjoyed it. I cannot accurately count how many times I have rewatched this (maybe 3-5 times) but no doubt, I will watch this again! Would I recommend it? Of course!
