This is is the closest I think 3D animation has ever come to achieving the sense of delirium and confusion that I can only refer to as ostentatious vertigo.
This is the story of a fish who has legs and walks like a man, a story of a fever dream and the rending of flesh, of caviar and managers. To say that this was a strange viewing experience would be an understatement. I watched this in original Japanese, which is a language I can only partially understand. Ojiisan no Densha is an animation that presents a pleasant and idyllic portrait of the daily life in the Showa era. It features an old guy who conducts a train and a young man who plays baseball. Other than that the story mostly serves to accompany the music.
