I like how they summarize humans in this anime, "We are, after all, just animals."

When I first saw this I thought to myself, "what kind of stupidity is this?" I usually rate these types of anime as, bottom of the barrel muck. However I was overwhelmingly and pleasantly surprised with this one. This story actually delivers not only a comprehensive story, plus amongst all the chaos it even delivers a decent moral for the story. Sure I agree dirty jokes are hilarious, and I know this from my wise cracking family, but I never would have thought there to be much ... more behind it. Same goes for giving a comprehensive reason to have smut like material in the world. If the extreme level of moral codes that they made law came to be I think the world would eventually become sterile.

Enjoy watching Tanukichi, Ayame, Outome, and even that craze Anna. This is one anime you don't want to overlook. (Given you are at least 14 years of age.)

With only two minutes and thirty seconds worth each episode it starts out on a bad foot. Not that it gets any better from there. There is a plot however there really is no story, all it really is is just a general progression of events with scenes that have little substance to them. The premise is for a young boy to be pulled into an "Alice in Wonderland" realm, that is just as nonsensical, and to be some chosen worrier in battling via a card game that he has never played. He has his childhood friend Michi there to help him, who ironically is ... some master of the game. Now throughout this whole ordeal you watch them play a dueling card game against bazaar opponents, but at no point do you ever get and understanding of what the rules of the game are. Then at the end they wake up as if it were a dream. I sorry but the little time I spent watching this I want back. It was as pointless to watch as it was as a show. Chose any other card game based anime and it would be better. "Battle Spirits", "Card Fight Vanguard", "Yu-Gi-Oh", all better. Don't waist your time on this.

My outlook on this anime overall its a bit mixed. I really enjoyed the premise and the plot along with the idea's meant to be taught, however there were times when the forward progression falters. The premise of the planet and the elements of nature lending there powers to a select few chosen people to protect the planet. That is a somewhat common plot.

This may start out that way but they expands to encompass the protection of the whole universe. They really push the envelope with that addition. When these things are attempted the majority of the time it backfires, though, in my opinion, ... the writers "just" manage to pull it off. I'm also pretty sure I can speak for most us when I say "no one really likes recap episodes" All it is is a filler episode. Just an attempt to fill time while they work on the next episode, but it losses the stories over all flow.

Even with these flaws and a few others, they manage to pull it all together in the end. The conflicts are resolved, their destruction is held off for them to clean up their act, and the two opposing forces join in a common goal. The best part for me is this is not one of those cliff hanger, unresolved ending stories.

Now his was rather disappointing. After the seeing the first season I had really gotten into it. If had a lot of great plot developments and the scenario's had a feeling of how a chess match unfolds, of course with more intensity though. Everything was not just about adapting to the new life but the adventure of it and the jaw dropping stagnates that Shiroe could weave. That however all kind of feel through in season two. The stories did not have as much weight and momentum to them anymore. The pull that it had in the first season that grabbed your attention became very ... watered down and diluted. It was pretty much a wash in the end in my opinion. I watch it all the way through hoping that it would at least give some decent sense of closure, yet that fell short of the strings of hope I held onto. It's like those blockbuster movies that do so great they decide to make a second. It's never as good as the first and always is a letdown in comparison. They have some good episode I give them that, so some may like to watch it. I suggest that for those of you that liked the first season a lot it would be best to just end with that and keep the memory of how good it was.

Reading the summary of this anime I thought to myself; This sounds like it might be something fun and funny. After watching the whole thing through I would like to adjust that conception.

Funny yes, Fun not so much. The whole show is carried by its humor. I'm not saying that that is bad. The humor is very well placed and set throughout the episode, however It lacks pretty much everything else.

The story is plainly just there to keep the jokes themselves coming, the characters themselves have no real depth, the plot is followed but again there it only seems to be existent to hold it ... all together for the humor. If you are all into watching something to just laugh hard then sure this is a good one for you. However if you are looking for something that isn't just only humor and is well balanced, then I suggest you turn away and look someplace else right now.

I can't get enough of this. I have to say that this is by far the best anime collision of Fantasy and RL I've ever see so far.

First off Itami, this Otaku of otaku's, this guy who acts as the single largest blight on society; who's only care is his single passion in the world, his absolute adoration of all things anime. This guy somehow ends up becoming the biggest hero in all of Japan for single handedly turning the tide of what starts out as a complete disaster into a well maintained defense in the center of Tokyo by an invasion from ... another world. Then as time goes on you learn that this always aloof person, actually has the training and experience that is the equivalent of a Green Brae, Navy Seal, Special Ops, Black Ops soldier; and his best friend in the army is the guy with the animal girl fetish!

Then you add in your Demi-god of Darkness, Young Genius Mage, and traumatized Forest Elf characters (all who happen to be girls) into the mix of his echelon that forms as he is forced back into the army to go through this gate to another world and fight back against the initial invasion. Then if this hodge-podge, mismatched, unorthodox group doesn't get you interested the number and scale of inconveniences that get dropped in their laps most certainly will. It is completely outrageous, and I mean that in the best ways.

And in episode 6 you have a scene with what looks to be fully decked out AH-64 Apache, and Blackhawk helicopters flying in a criss-crossing formation; While, playing "Flight of the Valkyrie" on exterior mounted loudspeakers approaching their target which is a castle at siege. If this doesn't get your inner evil genius to make you laugh maniacally I don't know what will.

Without seeing season one you can't get the complexities of the second. Only with the fist half can this be considered an actual full story; unlike some anime that can be segmented into there own separate stories. This time around everything has a very serious mood or feeling though the whole thing. Then also has ending actually is capped off really well by giving everything and everyone a clear resolution to their characters story to that point. While having it's very serious and surreal atmosphere the whole time it successfully is able to delivers it's fair share of funny moments. With this I feel it ... is an improvement over the first season.

I enjoyed all the twist and turns that they put the main protagonist Jil through. There was always something hidden just out of reach or a new discovery about the characters that got you to connect with them more and more as the story played out. Most of all I liked the whole tale being told around a seemingly undependable, useless figure that acts so sure of himself but has absolutely no real goal for himself. It's always "just keep going," but to actually have there be much more to him then he or anyone else can even tell. That type of plot development is ... an old one but it never seems to get old.

I'm not quiet sure how to best rate this anime. I have seen some unique ones in the past that I could not follow the purpose for there changes in direction, and this one seems to fit into that category for me.

The premise of the story being of a boy, Chihiro, falls in love with a zombie girl who becomes that way under some very unusual circumstance I find to be very "avaunt guard". Chihiro, being a horror NEET as it would be, has the way freaky fetish for falling in love and having a romance with only an zombie girl. Completely unheard ... of, but actually meets a sweet, naive girl; all be it tormented, that becomes a zombie which is even more unheard of. They go about the few episodes explaining how this comes about, which fit together well from it's description, that being one of a mainly supernatural/ horror genre; however after a bit, that feeling to the show, seems to fade. In it's place raises a much larger main stream romantic/comedy air about it.

Being devoted to the story line as much as the development of the characters I found this to be a bit distracting, and confusing. It starts out working really hard to get it's viewer's to feel the suspense and a, as best as I can put it, type of shuddering fear for a horror. Then is then soon dropped for for many more cutesy events or scenes that don't seem to fit with it's original flow. It is as if the writers are having a hard time balancing the idea's of loving romance and chilling horror. Overall with this confusion they seem to do a decent job of pulling it all together by the time they finish.

Yet again even with all is said and issues resolved, there are some hints that stay unanswered that bother me. First you get hints that Chihiro's deceased Mother may likely have been turned into a zombie for some reason by his Grandfather. This issue seen enough to make you wonder is never really addressed. Then you get the whole complete and utter insanity of the Sanka household. Most of it seems to be done and taken care of, but Dan'ichirō leave on a flight to look for a so called "cure", and is it just me or does the rich Sanka family seem to have trace hints of the occult to it that the rest of the society is oblivious to. Finally the most important one of all. WHAT HAPPENS TO REA?! I mean does she truly rot away in the end, does Chihiro finally figure out how to perfect the potion, does Rea stay undead forever or is some odd cure or change take place? That is all so frustrating that it is just left hanging there.
