When fantasy and sci-fi make love, out comes "Scrapped Princess".
Very good anime, solid story and characters, it steers clear of tropes and has plenty of Chekhov's guns on its shelves.

The backstory is kinda explained at some point but there is more to it and you have to think and piece together a puzzle to grasp it in its entirety.

It doesn't suffer from lazy writing or "Japanese humour", so to speak, and everything has an explanation.
Definitely worth watching, if only for the novel experience it provides.

The theme is somewhat melancholic... Ok, very melancholic at times, and stuff DOES go wrong. People make mistakes. And they ... get scared and try their best and fail and retry and just you know, behave like actual people rather than stereotyped characters. Fresh air for my poor lungs.

The pacing slows down near the end but it's not detrimental, if you use it to think things through and appreciate the worldbuilding.

8/10, would have been a 9/10, had the writing been braver in a couple of parts.
But definitely a must-watch: one of those rare anime that probe you to think and actually has very mature undertones. So I'll give it 9/10 all the same!

And darn, this is even better than the first season.
A character-driven anime, I didn't think such a thing existed. The characters are all awesome, but this time the pacing is decent too.

Plot: 8/10 (still early to say, but it looks promising)

Characters: 10/10 (they are the heart of this story, excellent work done there)

Pacing: 7/10 (much better than the first season!)

Execution: 10/10 (every episode is unforeseeable and just leaves you yearning for more)

Overall: 10/10 (holy cow, if you are into fantasy do yourself a favour and WATCH IT)

A slow burner. First a set-up, then the action. But oh, what action! And the worldbuilding is awesome, this is an ACTUAL fantasy.

Just be aware that the first half of the anime is about the set-up and you'll be good to enjoy one of the best fantasy anime I've watched!

Plot: 9/10 (multiple POWs and deeply intricate under the surface)

Characters: 10/10 (it's all about the characters. Not one of them is lame)

Pacing: 4/10 (I won't lie, I was about to drop it due to the super slow start I was unprepared for)

Execution: 10/10 (damn, it got me invested in the bond between a wivern and a ... blind girl... That's some good stuff)

Overall score: 9/10 - Must watch
