The first two episodes are not a good example of the shows general quality. Those episodes set up the fact that the main character is aware of how silly his ideas about being an edgy anti hero are. The comedy from those episodes comes from the fact that while hes aware its all play pretend and that hes making stuff up, in actuality everything he says is true and everyone believes him 100%.
This doesn't ever happen again. The rest of the series is as formulaic as you can get. each arc starts with him meeting one of his organizations girls, them plagiarizing what he
...
told them about earth before being isekaied. them making a lot of money from that info and him getting annoyed. then the arc plays out where they reveal some big event, the main character thinks of the best way to act cool and make the event about himself, and then they reveal the big bad guy. Theres a bunch of filler where we either get an exposition dump or random fights where the main character and his haram always win with no effort; until finally we fight the main villain and beat them without any effort
The main character knows hes strong but the story never figures it out. There is no comedy from him effortlessly beating his opponents because the story tells you he will. There is no comedy from the story telling you he will because they dont ever break expectations. When shadow says hes going to do something he does it without fail. they put the main character in two different scenarios where hes not supposed to be able to use magic, what does he do? he uses magic. No stakes at all. If this was played as a joke it would be fun but its not, its played to make the main character look cool. That in itself is funny but thats one of the four jokes the show ends up doing over and over. the others being the plagiarism joke stated above, the modern day items like mcdonalds and coffee that start appearing from the plagiarism. And the silly names they give the characters (the main villian at the last arc is named Perv Asshat). Theres no other humor in this series, just pure power fantasy pretending that its being meta
That being said the animation and sound design is great> The show looks good, the voice acting is very well done, and the team behind the series really do their best to make each encounter feel exciting and refreshing. The story on the other hand fails to properly make us care about the characters and the fights. Shadow never gets hurt, he never loses, his expectations are never beaten. His only flaw is that hes an jerk who only cares about himself and looking cool. If they explored his character and why he is the way he is the show would be much more engaging; however, they dont do this in all 20 episodes making it obvious that character is not a focus of this series
TLDR; the series has beautiful action and sound design but the story is repetitive, the characters are uninteresting, and the comedy loses its charm quickly. theres much better isekais out there that are both a power fantasy and comedic.

The first chapter feels like it was written by a dude with a raging hatered for isekais when he never watched a single one of them.
What story we do have essentially involves our main character getting killed by a reincarnated individual. He then watches said reincarnate kill and rape his childhood friend. He is later resurrected by a witch and the two decide to kill all the reincarnates.
As far as I can tell all 9 of the main antagonists take very heavy inspiration, essentially stolen, from already established works (those likely being SAO, Re:zero, Mushoku Tensei, Konosuba, Hamefura, Tanya, Reincarnated as a Slime, Isekai
...
Shokudo, and Overlord). This wouldn't really be a problem if the author was going to actually parody the original works in a comedic or light hearted way; but, instead he decided to make all the parodied characters rapists or casual accessories to rape in order to drive his lazily contrived revenge story.
After the backlash it received there will not be a continuation; however, It's still shocking how the writer of such a beloved series like Kakegurui could stoop into writing such an amateur revenge plot just to try and make some money off of the isekai wave.

animation, animation, animation, it's all anyone talks about when it comes to this series. Many people feel very differently on how important animation is when it comes to an anime. There are some shows with poor animation but great storys and great characters while other animes are lacking in engaging characters and story but have wonderful animation. Some people like one over the other and both are valid, its all a matter of perspective.
To me Record of Ragnarok is a show that falls in the first category. The sound design is perfect(i watched the dub and it was a blast), the pacing is basically
...
the same as it was in the manga, the characters were well portrayed (both in their designs and personality), and overall you could tell the people who worked on it really loved what they were doing.
Don't go in wanting to see fluid fights every single minute of each episode because that's not what this show or the manga is. It's a show focusing on pitting two characters against each other, Both physically, mentally, and thematically.
If you like good characters, good music, and some insanely hype moments then give this show a watch, just make sure to not hinge all your enjoyment on the occasionally poorly done fight scenes .

Re:zero is the closest thing I can call a true hit or miss. You either watch the show and absolutely love it, or you dislike the show and find it a incredible pain to get through. As is obvious by my score I fall into the former category for reasons ill explain in the next few paragraphs, but I also want to explain why someone might NOT enjoy this show.
The Shows Animation/Sound is Fantastic:
Good animation isn't necessary to tell a good story, kemono friends has a nice story and some of the worst animation I've seen but I still find enjoyment in the
...
show; however, re:zeros animation (season 1 and 2) is down right beautiful. There are some weak points hence the 9/10 but overall the animation is fluid, the characters are always on model, and the symbolism and foreshadowing that's done through visual nods draws you totally into the world. The music and sound effects are perfectly placed throughout the season, the music conveys how you should be feeling in a way that doesn't feel forced. It's never so loud that you cant hear the characters talking and its never too quiet that the scene feels empty when it isn't trying to be, just all around amazing stuff from White Fox.
The Animation is Good but The Story and Characters are Even Better:
It's hard to say what's great about the season 2 cast and story specifically without spoiling the season but I'll just say that if you want a great fantasy mystery with insanely hype action scenes; AND, a show where every character feels human and organically grows throughout the season then this show fits right up your alley.
Okay.. but Subaru Kind of Ruins it...:
i've heard a lot of complaints but the one about Subaru is, in my opinion, the biggest issue that causes people to stop watching. Subaru's character is supposed to be someone you are not supposed to feel comfortable with. Similar to Mushoku Tensei the main character is written in a way that makes him painful to watch and hard to fully empathize with. He's designed to be someone you can sort of see aspects of yourself in but never fully want to relate to him based on his awful and selfish actions. In season 1 Subarus dislikeableness lasted over half the season and turned off many people from the series; however, in season 2 we watch as Subaru takes the knowledge he gained from season 1 and continues to grow as an individual, learning and developing as a person and helping those around him. If you didn't like subarus character at the beginning of season 1 then you will definitely like him a lot more in season 2.
(spoilers for beginning of season 2 part 2)
Season 2's theme (imo) has a focus on Subaru's ideological battle with Roswal, Roswal is someone who represents stagnation, he holds true to his old beliefs / emotions and doesn't change them. Subaru on the other hand is all about growth, as mentioned earlier he's someone who is trying to be better, he's trying to help the people he loves, and he's doing everything he can do to reach that goal without sacrificing what else is important to him. This is a core ideological battle between these two characters which i think is important for enjoying this part of season 2 specifically.
(end of spoiler section)
Overall I highly recommend this series and especially this season. If you reallyyyyy can't stand subaru in season 1 and don't care / want to wait for him to improve then it may be best for you to skip, otherwise this is the perfect series if you want a bit of everything done very well.

It's very hard to describe the series in a way that conveys the raw emotion it instills in the viewer. As one of the first isekais and a progenitor to a lot of others, I would have an easier time explaining the beauty and history of the mono lisa then explain why this show is so special to me. But this is a review so I'm going to try to anyway.
I would first like to clear up a few main concerns I heard about the show. I've heard many individuals claim that this is just another randomly overpowered isekai where the main character is a
...
total pervert and does disgusting things and still somehow gets people to like him. The problem with this criticism is the same I heard about re:zero when it first came out, the character is horribly unlikeable, he does disgusting and annoying things, and still gets what he wants. If you look at the first four episodes then yes, that is a correct analysis of the show. re:zero and mashoku tensei does in fact start with a horribly unlikeable protagonist who does cringey, perverted, and overall disgusting things. You are perfectly valid in saying that because the show consistently tells you that is who he is.
Mashoku Tensei is indeed a show about a middle aged pervert getting killed after he sacrafices himself to save some highschoolers, then getting reincarnated into the body of an infant. The show is paced in such a way that you follow the main character (Rudeus) as he naturally grows as a human being over the course of literal years. The pacing in this show is very steady, things don't suddenly happen and then all of a sudden there's a time skip, you watch each day how Rudeus grows, develops his magic from a very young age, and changes slowly as a person. The show can be described as a case study of the main character and his growth into a better person.
The first scene you see of him has him jerking off to porn on his computer, later when he reincarnates you seem him constantly doing perverted things like sniffing underwear and trying to peep on his parents having sex. Yes you should feel disgusted by this; unlike in redo of healer where the awful behavior of the main character is rewarded and justified constantly, mushoku tensei makes it clear that this behavior is not okay. Whenever Rudeus is called out for this its not in a "oh haha you're so quirky [VIEWER SELF INSERT]" its "this is seriously uncomfortable and you're being a disgusting person". The point of showing us these awful scenes of perverted behavior is to later show his growth from that "down bad" state into a actually good human; however, that transition does not happen quickly which depending on your point of view can either be a good thing or a bad thing. With all that being said possible viewers of the show should be warned that the show does portray slavery, and mildly pedophilic content in ways that can, and probably will, make you uncomfortable at times.
To finish up this review from becoming too long, the beauty of mushoku tensei is the growth that Rudeus expresses and the growth he inspires in others. There are times when characters face problems that Rudeus succumbed to in his own life and because of his own experience he's able to help them through their difficulties in life. On the same hand those people are able to help him through the mental trauma he suffers from. In my opinion the story of Mushoku Tensei is a brilliant tale of personal growth, decorated with beautiful visuals, wonderful sound design, insane attention to detail, and layered characters that all feel unique, memorative and enjoyable to watch.
I recommend this show to anyone looking for an anime with a character who organically grows into a better person and for people who are looking for an anime with great pacing and amazing attention to details.

spiders? spiders!
Kumo Desu is going to be one of those highly slept on animes brought up only in whispers when discussing newer shows, and honestly that's a huge shame. There are two major complaints when it comes to this show:
Bad CGI
ANOTHER video game isekai
allow me to clear up the first point: I won't lie and say the CGI is great, sometimes it can be closer compared to Envy's monster form from FMAB more so then the characters in Beastars, BUT this does not mean all the CGI is ex-arm levels of garbage. The team does a wonderful job mixing large rig CGI monsters with
...
wonderful textures, flowing movement, and interesting camera angles. There were only a handful of times when i seriously noticed some annoyances in the CGI but that did not subtract from the overall enjoyment of the series.
the story: It's especially tricky to talk about the story because its a twin narrative. for most of one episode you may be following the main character and her rewarding growth as she fights tougher and tougher monsters, outwitting her opponents using every skill at her disposal. Next episode you may be following the students as they learn more about the nature of the world and how they are adapting to their new powers. the show is very effective at weaving these two narrative along, being careful not to overlap them (too much) in order to avoid them becoming repetitive.
I would recommend this series to any isekai fans. it takes the tired cliché of overpowered hero doing overpowered things and instead focuses on telling two story's of people learning and growing in two very different environments. The mystery behind why the world is built the way it is and when/if the two story's will converge is a powerful driving force within the anime.
I would not recommend this to someone without an open mind, like i said earlier there are moments of bad CGI and if you already have a hate boner for the Isekai genre this show might not do enough to subvert it for you; however, if you think you might be interested in watching a twin narrative with great world building, mystery, and a delightfully fun to watch main character, then this is a show you should definitely take a look at.

Beastars once again carries true with it's amazing characters and story. Having read the manga midway into season one, i can definitively say that the team behind season 2 is doing an excellent job. They aren't only adapting but also improving upon the original in subtle but well appreciated way (mostly through the use of dynamic facial movements).
in my opinion season 2 is a faithful continuation of season 1 and of the source material. if you liked the character dynamics, interwoven story, and drama that Beastars season 1 provided, then you will absolutely enjoy season 2.
That being said viewers should take note
...
that this arc doesn't contain nearly as much school life and drama club as season 1. The story decides to focus more on action rather then the drama within the school. the upside is that the combat translates excellently into the anime, the downside is that a few characters are slightly shoved by the way side (poor Haru and Juno). If season 3 comes out and they don't make major changes then this trend will be exacerbated further so do keep aware.

Overview: besides it being a unfaithful adaptation, basing it on it's own merits the season falls behind on many points. The pacing is horribly rushed: characters are introduced one episode and then “redeemed” the next. The cast is greatly bloated, I honestly doubt that anyone can name more then half of the kids in the bunker and even fewer can name personality traits that separate them from their companions. And the biggest problem i have is one that was brought up by one of my good friends; there are no stakes and no struggles in what the characters do. Whatever the characters desire they retrieve
...
with minimal difficulty or tension. It’s clear the creators of season 2 don't want to create tension through character death (which would be very effective considering how large the cast is) but even without character death it's still possible to create tension within the narrative. (look at Dr. Stone as a good example of creating tension without committing to character death)
Recommendation: skip the anime read the manga instead, Cloverworks is a great studio with a lot of hits under their belt i just don't know why the ball was dropped for this series
